I was late going to catch my bus so I could hear the first record to be played on Radio 1 and it was Flowers In The Rain by the Move. I'm a big fan of The Move and then Wizzard. Roy Wood is underrated not many can play the bagpipes . His songs are still loved and played by me today. I'm almost 71yrs old.❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤

Unusual to see Rick Price playing guitar as he originally played bass with The Move. Phil Tree is currently a member of Bev Bevan's Zing Band. Unfortunately Alan "Fluff" Freeman passed away in 2006. Roy Wood still tours with his Rock & Roll Band, and Rick Price is still married to Dianne Lee from the Peters and Lee singing duet. Rick used to be the manager of Peters and Lee.

They ALWAYS get this bit WRONG! The great " Flowers in the rain" WAS NOT the first record to be played on Radio One. George Martin's "Theme one." opened the show followed by a Johnny Dankworth piece called "Beefeaters" I think they were just played as segments. So, more correctly, The Move track could be said to be the first POP record to be played on the new station - more or less in it's entirety. When even respected DJ's can't get it right, it makes one wonder! But Roy Wood wrote this great song, and we are all grateful for that!
@davidmacgregor51935 жыл бұрын
The intro music to Tony Blackburn's first ever Radio 1 Breakfast Show was on a reel to reel tape, so it can't be classed as a record although it is a recording. I've heard people argue that Tony Blackburn's voice wasn't the first on Radio 1, saying that Arnold the dogs barking was the first, but a dogs bark isn't a voice, or is it? Let's stop splitting hairs and enjoy Woody's evergreen song.

I'd always thought of it as the first SONG played on radio 1, which would count out the 2 examples given. However, what I find upsetting is that there seems to be no mention that Roy Wood didn't sing it first time around, the lead vocalist was Carl Wayne.

It's clearly a sequenced MIDI playback. Roy did a lot of that in the 80s and into the nineties, although he could have done a better job with a four track tape recorder and played every instrument as we well know..
