So, based on what you are saying at approx 18:00 about the cleaning while you are there and it is an over time call... Your philosophy is simply fuck the customer they can pay for another service call because it is a Sunday? How long would the cleaning have actually taken to complete? Another hour? You won't clean it, but you will damn sure look at units they did not ask you to look at ON A SUNDAY to look for more stuff to hit them up for when you or one of your employees comes out during the week..... Seems greed and being in a pissy mood on a Sunday got the better of you. If you are already there and cleaning it would have made it the most efficient and working properly, I am sure they would have GLADLY paid for the job to have been done right to begin with. Just like the UV bulb thing. You said you aren't going to mess with it at the time but then take the time to change it and fix the air pump connection. So you did the simple stuff that took very little effort, but cleaning it would have been probably the most benefit to the customer. Thank GOD I am not one of your customers.

Cleaning takes about 3-4 house to tear down the machine properly… walking past the ac units while I’m already on the roof took me an extra 5 minutes . But yes to answer your question my time with my family is more valuable than the customers money to me especially when this customer does not do routine maintenance.

Going up on the roof to see if the ACs board got any errors on them is gonna take a lot less than the 12-14mins those machines take to drop ice. He’s multitasking. He also did say the customer wanted him to take a quick look at them since he was already there and they didn’t do routine maintenance…Pay attention my guy 😂

.....this is a wild ass take my guy. I'm sure if the machine's cleanliness was stopping it from functioning, it would have been cleaned. Otherwise he's out there, charging overtime and working on an on-call day. As a business owner I'd much prefer the guy come out, do what has to be done to rubber band the thing back together and come back prepared later.

Whoa there, bud. I'm not entirely sure how lessening the amount of overtime billed hours in order to come back and charge them LESS per hour for a normal business hour cleaning call is being pissy or greedy. Also, since when should you not get an overall look at systems and let the customer know of any other issues? In your own reasoning that's a blatant "let it break, fuck the customer, they didn't need to know there was a problem brewing". Making customers aware of other potential issues extends to a ton of service industries, not just HVAC, and is a sign of good faith between the tech and customer. Thank GOD you aren't someone I do business with.

To be honest, this ice machine actually looked pretty clean. Some mineral deposits, but nothing alarming. As I've blabbed on about before on another ice machine video, I once worked for a donut-and-coffee store where the Store Manager taught me how to clean our Hoshizaki ice machine, and she then scheduled me to come in as an extra Crew Member once every six months specifically to clean the ice machine. It's not hard to do, but it is time-consuming. (Especially when you don't have a hot water hose, and you have to empty the bin by hand with a 55-gallon trash can on wheels, and dump several cans of ice in the back parking lot!) It was always worth it, though. Seeing several batches of perfectly-formed crystal-clear ice dropping into the bin is just as satisfying as watching a good coil cleaning.

Watching this channel for the last few years has taught me so much. I don't work on anything myself, but i am more aware of things, if that makes sense. Last week we had a roof top unit that was short cycling during a heat call, and i heard it and called an HVAC company and they surprised that i was knowledgeable and not just a tenant complaining about no heat. the two frequencies are not redundant - it's set to 100hz so it can listen avoiding 60 cycles. 120hz is for avoiding 50hz supply noise. Nyquist sampling.

To me, it's amazing that someone genuinely cares and cares a lot about their employees. Long story short, I ended up in a truly awful situation between a rock and a hard place where I suffered a lot of abuse and ended up having a mental breakdown. I did leave that company, but it not always easy to realise how bad things actually are and it takes someone else to do or say something that enables you to see the reality and hopefully before it is too late. Some people are a lot more vulnerable to abuse and don't realise, for various reasons, how it is destroying them. This was my second mental breakdown. The first time round I ended trying to take my own life a couple of times, but that was some years ago now. Why were things so bad? I didn't really know until a got a very late autism diagnosis and things started to make sense to me as my understanding about my condition grew. As Chris used to always say at the end of these videos...'remember to be kind to one another'...one day you may, perhaps unknowingly, save someone's life.

When I did the CFESA ice machine training, the Manitowoc guy told us that after every complete “clean cycle“, the machine self calibrates that lil microphone using the first 10 harvests since every restaurant has different ambient noise levels.

Being that those two frequencies are 100Hz and 120Hz, I'd guess the reason for them is that line frequency is 50Hz in some parts of the world and 60Hz in others. As things tend to vibrate at some multiple of the line frequency, twice line makes sense.

I am far from a "germaphobe", but I find it interesting that a restaurant hires a "professional" ice maker cleaning service, and I observe when you open up an ice machine, it doesn't look very clean to me. It likely is safe and not a problem in most cases, but still... Same with observations from "professional" filter cleaning/changing companies. I get restaurants wanting to save money, and all sorts of factors like corporate control, but there are heavy costs to a restaurant for down time and repairs due to a lack of maintenance... If a restaurant is out of ice, that is a deal. Sure, call a service tech and go buy ice, but again... I learn so much from your channel buy just observing and firing up one or two neurons, do a little math and a little thinking. This is actually my second view of this video as I find myself procrastinating on a Sunday morning - the proverbial pot calling the kettle black 🙃. Best, and keep these videos coming. Also, I would like to mention, by all appearances, you are blessed with a supportive wife and family. That is truly a blessing... Just give them a hug as I know you do. An extra one never hurts.

I owned a restaurant for 25 years. I cleaned all the time. Closed on Sunday and spent all day cleaning and sanitizing walk-in's, reach ins, hood, everything. I cleaned the ice machine monthly and it had water filters, slime control things that went in the sump , etc. My machine and bin was sanitized and recorded on a check list by the machine. Even though I did this on my own, my health inspector wanted it done this way all the time too and he loved the checklist and record. I am Serve Safe certified and Ice is considered food and must be treated as such. I would not have allowed this machine back in service until it was cleaned and completely sanitized. My health inspector would have not allowed it back in service - in addition to what looks like mineral build up, I'm sure there is pink mold and other molds present. Most restaurants are filthy behinds the scenes - if people only knew.

hey man love the vid’s i work at United and i had a quick question i kno people say it not possible but if your working on a unit that’s Tandem, Do you have to replace both compressor or could you potentially just replace the failed compressor. I know due to the oil lines being connected together. I’ve had Techs tell me you replace the failed compressor and not both.

It depends on the Manufacturer but most suggest replacing both compressors in a Tandem setup when one fails

Those Lennox units seem to be much better thought out and built than the equivalent Carrier units. When I worked security for a chicken production plant, we not only checked doors and such, but we were tasked with keeping an eye on fuel levels and temps on the refrigerated trailers as well. THE most troublesome reefer units were made by Carrier. Yet the old (often 10+ years old) Thermo King units just ran. On my watch, had a Thermo King throw a rod in its diesel engine, and one that needed a refrigeration line replaced because it had a leak. The Carrier units, I called in at least 20 with an issue that required mechanics to come out and do something and/or required a load to be transferred. One Carrier unit threw a rod, another had a seized compressor, several needed new alternators or other various mechanical things including new drive belts, and the mechanics HATED working on them.

Hello.....I'm considering buying either a Manitowoc IYT0450A-161 or a Hoshizaki KML325MAJ 30". I currently have a Hoshizaki KM-201BAH, which is too small. Both of the machines I listed will work to ice my sodas and food for my hot dog trailer and it would be placed in my basement. The Hoshizaki is about $300 more, so which would you reccomend for what I'd use it for and is the extended warranty from Amazon a good idea? I use approximately 180 lbs to 240 a day, depending on the weather. Thanks.

As the Controller calls it Ozone Bulb it’s probably a UV-Light with a Quarz Case so hard UV can exit and actually generate Ozone. Air that is pulled around the Bulb gets a Dose of UV that kills Microbes in the Chamber directly and at the same time Ozone is generated and pushed into the Device to work in all Corners of the Machine. Ozone just fucks up the Plastic over Time normally. Probably didn’t make the Magnet Cover and other cracked Part last longer… But as long as someone isn’t served the Magnet it’s still Way better than the Risk of contaminated Ice. And I consider it a better Solution than just a Corona Discharge for the Ozone. (Lower Voltage for the Bulb etc.) - Be careful with Bird Shit and Toxoplasmosis and other nasty Stuff as a Side Note. - Good Policy to set Limits whats done for the Customers on a unscheduled Visit. A Company I know in a completely different Business startet to only do what had been discussed before. No looking at anything that wasn’t mentioned before and didn’t happen just now.

I've got pictures of truly disgusting machines with weird black mold growth. Started to look like mushrooms growing on it. I've also seen a machine that grows black mold at a very odd rate even with regular cleaning. These particular units will stop working before they get "too dirty." I have one in West Memphis AR I service and their water is full of iron. If it's not cleaned every 6 months on schedule its out of service before 7.

I actually like UV lights in residential applications. Here in GA, equipment with UV systems (pre-coil) keep the indoor coils from corroding, quite a bit. I've seen 15 year old coils with well-maintained UV systems with little to no corrosion, as compared to non-uv systems with horrible corrosion at 2-3 years. They may not do what the customer thinks they do, but they will keep the equipment in much better operational condition. Also, nearly EVERY heat pump system here will grow mold/mildew in the first couple of years. The UV setups keep that to a minimum. They may not do much in your area but they work wonders here.

Manitowoc pre chill is time based tho I’m sure you know but for other it isn’t based upon a temperature it is timed.. initial start up 120 seconds and after that 30 seconds for (r404a and r410a) 90 seconds for (290)

I was originally going to make this assumption, but is the 100Hz/120Hz relate to the fact that the microphones are passively "listening" for the 2nd harmonic of 50Hz or 60Hz that would be transmitted thru the water by the pumps and other equipment in the machine running? That's what it seems to imply, unless they are ultrasonic and there is some form of down conversion done within the machine. Then it would make at least some sense since it could be used to get background noise readings before taking the measurement. Doesn't seem to be much info on how these actually work.

Pretty sure if you have it in a test mode or something other than off or bin full and you power cycle/lose power it automatically starts ina harvest no matter what. It /may/ start in a harvest with an open bin because it can't tell if that's ice still on the plate or ice just holding it open. Stuck ice on a curtain still in Evap could cause issues if it doesn't start in a harvest and a do a full 6/7 min harvest whatever it is on that machine. All those Manitowoc boards ESP the ice and beverage nxts and the quiet cubers have odd ass stuff going in the software. The ibt nxts have a t5 sensor as some kind of backup for the bin switches it reads like the older Scotsman thermostatic bin switches or something I knew what it was once but I don't work on Manitowocs anymore. So glad 🤣🤣🤣 We only have Scotsman and hoshizaki flakers at my job. Here and there some cubers. But I have yet to have to replace any control boards here 🤣 or touch pads.

9/32" on the thickness probe gap or 7mm As far as the 100hz/120hz, it must get to 3,000 before its full and will got into a harvest right? each cube chamber makes a click as the water passes over it, thus making a consistent sound it can measure. pump flow rate is specific as is the volume of the ice to full, so given the pump rate, its listening for between 100 to 120 clicks per section as the water runs over each chamber. If i knew how many cubes are made per side i could run the rough numbers for you. But you probably and gather what i am saying, as far as the logic as to what that microphone is listening for and how it might be counting. I dont know for sure, but that is my hypothesis on how that works. Or it works off of sonar, cube depth is 2.22cm + probe gap is 7mm, so we will just say 3cm is 0 and .7cm is 3,000. it just so happens 100hz wave length is 3300mm long, and 120hz is about 2800mm long. So the 100hz and 120hz can calculate the thickness within a 10% margin. Does that sound right?

Possibly but more than likely it just went in a drink and just sat in the cup unless they consumed every piece of ice

100-120 hertz is a really low frequency, just a little bit above lower range of human hearing, but isn’t hard to hear. 2 separate frequencies probably is for some sort of rejection algorithm.

I carry a 9/32 or 9/64 (can’t remember off the top of my head) drill bit to set the depth on those. Seems to work for me.
