A scalpel would be one of the worst weapons imaginable. You would be better off taking off your sock; putting something heavy inside, and using that as a bludgeon. Or picking up an IV stand, and using part of that as a club. Scalpels are meant for opening soft tissue in slow, controlled movements. Not slashing or stabbing; the blade of a scalpel is very thin, and it would just break off the first time it met with anything that provided even a bit of resistance.

It's a very useful tool to have, but I agree, it's a terrible weapon. You don't even need to hit anything that resists, an edge misalignment can cause the blade to break before it even breaks the skin.

Well of course it is. There's two big reasons for that: Subverted expectations, and history. We associate hospitals with lots of good things, so it's a classic thing that is supposed to be nice and safe turned into something dangerous. As for history.... Well, just look into some of the horrific things that used to be considered "treatments" for illnesses. Lobotomies come to mind. Not to mention the very real times science and medicine have done really unethical, horrible shit to people in the name of progress. Add those two together and you have a great recipe for something innately scary to people. Hope this doesn't come off as like... Condescending or rude or anything. I just think it's really interesting how and why certain horror settings come up so often!

I grew up in the '80s and '90s, so I'm always nostalgic for old-school dungeon crawlers like this. We had a lot of that back in the day, especially on computer platforms as opposed to consoles. If I could remark to the devs about a couple of points: It might be nice if the player could pan their vision up and down to see more details, because the player often interacts with notes and objects that are situated on surfaces just below their POV. The only other thing is that it might be a good idea to consider having a broader selection of graphics models for cabinets and item boxes, because we only see the same two assets all throughout the demo.
