@@troywalt4834 True you won't get the Full Frame compression and background blur on the FX30 but we're only talking about 1 stop difference. Most videographers talk about stopping down while shooting anyway. $400 cheaper, better screen, more reliable, more durable, and better ergonomics. Don't get me wrong... there are things I like more about the ZV-E1 but the FX30 offers more bang for the buck.

The FX30 is a far better choice for professional use. Reliability is everything. These KZbinrs aren’t working under the pressures of a production environment when the cameras have to work. The FX30 is a fantastic camera. Would be my pick too if I need a companion for my FX3.

I think the reason 4k120 is coming later, has to be the overheating. I guess the next firmware will contain code to deal with heat management a bit better.

Yeah I wonder how they will deal with that since it already overheats pretty quickly in 4k60. I mean look at Gerald’s tests in room temperature. Imagine in sunshine and summer temperatures - brutal. I’m keeping my FX3. It’s far more suited for professional use.

Nice overview. For vlogging it does make a lot of sense. The size seems very convenient. That auto aperture adjustment in automatic mode when multiple people are in the frame is smart. It's impressive how they manage to make the autoframing feature look decent. I did see that Gerald measured overheating times for streaming use that were too short for that style of content (assuming I didn't misinterpret his results), so there are some limitations. Hopefully Sony refreshes the ZV-E10 with the newer sensor. Then they'd really have a great option for the market they appear to be targeting.

The problem with refreshing the ZV-E10 is that Canon is going after this market with a full frame sensor for $1500. And Nikon has the Z5 on sale for $1100. Sony is surrendering the entry level full frame market. As smartphones continue to gain ground on cameras they going to become less relevant. The competition is going cheaper to give people a reason to pick up a camera.

This is a really good B-cam or crash cam for a well-educated content creator, but it's also a REALLY good tourist-y camera with a pancake f/2.8 lens in a way that the FX3 and A7RV are not. It's small, it's light, and easily deployable. Since it has the same sensor and processor package as the A7SIII, it's also a really good "cheaper" camera for someone just starting out who DOES know what they're doing, but doesn't have $5K to spend on an FX3 and all the accessories that need to go with it.

Dan Watson got the camera to overheat in FIVE minutes shooting 4K60p in mild Florida sunlight. 4K120p isn't available at launch because Sony doesn't want bad press about the overheating. Quite strange frankly overheating is not mentioned once in this video, its the cameras biggest flaw. You can't cram so many specs and features in such a tiny body and not have severe overheat issues. This is definitely NOT a baby A7SIII/FX3 in actual usage. Those two have passive/active cooling to mitigate overheating. Let's be fully transparent here folks.

I heard this somewhere and it makes sense. They didn't add 4k 120 initially so they could advertise no crop. They're going to add it as a firmware update because there's going to be a crop. My guess is that a crop helps reduce heat. The difference in this cam and the A7sii is the size which makes the zve1 worse at heat dissipation. They're going to balance the crop with heat dissipation. Most likely they have some data on how long people generally shoot in 4k 120.

I do agree.. Right now, I got my ZV_E10, which is pretty much so good for me for what I use it for... but for low light stuff .. wish to go for the this new ZV_E1 .. which looks like the ZV_E10 on steroids but for the price tag . Price tag. Then why won't I go in for the X-T5?

It may not be meant for people who want to buy an FX3, but by no doubt by the ludicrously mad mind of an update deprived Sony A7S3 rogue Sony technician this camera really is meant for people who want to buy the FX3 or the Sony A7S3, and maybe don't feel the need to film for more than 12 minutes 25fps, not to mention 120fps... I mean who films on that for more than 1 minute "bursts". Sony basically just made the most awesome checkmate of all time (not just on competitors, but on themselves), plus they're going to make us probably pay $100 for the 120fps update, that's just genius, because you know we're all going to buy that no questions asked. I'd say it's a June update so they have time to drop test all the overheating issues before bringing it to us. I pre-ordered it on the day it came out, so they have one sucker in the bag already 😂

Although that auto tracking feature where you can film yourself and have the frame move with you is INCREDIBLE. I hope they make an a7cII with that feature. I have a74 but want a back up camera that is lighter smaller and can still take great photos unlike the ZV-e1 in terms of stills.

When the FX30 comes in for less money, has a built in fan to deal with overheating, etc. it was a no brainer for me. I don't vlog and I use lights/reflectors/wide open lenses, so APS-C wasn't an issue for me.

You also hit it on the head about current high-end camera owners buying this because they don't want to take their expensive equipment out everyday, or on shoots late at night or in risky/'sketchy' areas... I own an A1 and have always wanted an A7SIII or FX3: I can now buy this, use it for those uses, AND take advantage of the AI auto framing and improved AF - this is an instant buy for me! This thing might be not cheap, but we had someone yesterday who wanted to buy an FX3 but he went for the E1. The people loved the camera and videographers just looked at it from the standpoint of an FX3 or A7SIII. I don't see this as THE vloggers camera. This is THE videographers camera. I was really blown away how the customers react on the camera. This is a really big hit for Sony. All the younger guys fall directly in love with it. I personally loved this super stabilized footage. This alone would be the reason for me to buy it, as I hate gimbals. This camera is the first Sony that lets you feel completely free in your movement. I'm really hyped as I didn't expected it to perform this good.

@Chiyloko Hi, thanks for the question. Generally im not that technical or well up on gear but getting a camera largely depends on your budget and needs. If the budget is low you could get the A7iii very cheap and it would be enough to get started, see how you like film-making without spending too much at 1st! Then you could upgrade later. If you have a larger budget you would better getting the A7Siii or the new ZV-E1 as they are better quality and meant for video specifically!

I don't really get why people are bellyaching so much about this being an expensive vlog camera. Compared to what? Sony are already providing a good ladder of cameras for vloggers like the ZV-1, ZV-E10, A7 C and now ZV-E1. Of course it's not targeted towards the beginner vlogger but people who've been doing this for a while and really want to step up. Pro vloggers like Matti Happoja and others are using the much more expensive A7S III and FX3 and this camera have the same video specifications but without those other bells and whistles that vloggers generally don't need.

BTW guys the stabilisation on this camera is a software update. You can achieve the same on any sony with gyro data, so any camera from the second wave. Sony has catalyst browse software and there's also third party software called gyroflow which is free and really good, we use it in fpv.

Not for lack of budget RF lenses. Sony has huge choices with its own, Tamron, Sigma or Samyang (AF lenses）etc.

@@wingcreator I agree 100% Canon had poor lens selection. But I don’t think the entry level vlogger/content creator is in depth with this issue. Or why else would they sell cameras with crappy kit lenses. Canon has prime 16mm and 50mm for peanuts and then they have a 24mm and 35mm both with stabilization for $500. You could get the 50mm and the 35mm along with the R8 and still be cheaper than the ZV-E1 body. This is plenty enough today for someone buying their first full frame camera stepping up from an iPhone.

ZVE1 is a good camera, but as a vlogging camera, it fails. The primary feature of a vlogging camera is that it should be able to shoot stable videos even without a stabilizer because vlogging is all about shooting videos anytime and anywhere, and you can’t carry a stabilizer with you all the time. However, Sony’s anti-shake function is very poor. ZVE1’s anti-shake function is very unstable when shooting handheld walking videos. Active Stabilization requires large cropping and affects image quality. You must use an external stabilizer every time you shoot. You don’t need to buy Zve1 at all. Other Sony models are similar. Even if you use a stabilizer, ZVE1 IBIS cannot handle micro-shakes well, and you still need to use post-shake reduction when you get home. A 20-minute 4K walking video takes more than 2-3 hours to convert in CATALYST BROWSE (even longer if your computer is not fast enough). As for Zve1’s AI anti-shake and tracking functions, they cause too much damage to image quality. You can feel it even on the small screen of your phone. It’s okay to play with them, but try not to use them in practice.
