Great videos ... I am more than happy holding on to my R5 for another 2-3 years at least.
@grumblewoof47216 ай бұрын
Thanks Manny. So far I have looked at several early reviews and to be honest for what I shoot I can't see enough of feature advantages to warrant upgrading from my R5. I see they have merged more of the R5C into the R5 II so if you are migrating to video/hybrid shooting then the new R5 II might be justified. Maybe a year or two down the road I might get a discounted R5 II and keep the R5 as a backup. I have loaned my 5D MkIV to a friends daughter to help her photography career... thinking back, I could have kept the 5D MkIV and not got the R5 and I would still have been happy. I feel we are often sucked into the hype of new gear and often can waste a lot of money.

R5 with Stacked cmos and even better IBIS& AF is not enough? Really?
@grumblewoof47216 ай бұрын
@@zegzbrutal It's the difference between the new R5 II price here in the UK which is £4,499 and the trade in price of my current R5 of around £1,600... £2,899. Which means I would be paying £2,899 for a camera with slightly better stacked cmos sensor and slightly better IBIS & AF. But, as far as image quality and getting the shot or more keeper images, it is marginal. The R5 is still a great camera and takes amazing images. I was expecting to see more in the R5 II, especially with AI, a better articulated rear screen (like the Sony) and a better menu system, anti-theft security features. the merging of some R5C video features is welcome but only if you are a hybrid shooter as it does not meet the standards and features of a dedicated cinema camera. E.g. does the R5 II meet Netflix standards like the R5C ?

You say you would consider the R5ll for your main sports camera. So whats your main camera for portrait work ? How does the R5ll eye auto focus work along with the eye control ? I have been with Sony since buying my A7r lll around six years ago. But i only have 3 Sony lenses. The 28/55 and 85 f1.8. Because i wanted to keep things small and light. And my camera is still in like new condition. But i still own my 5Dlll and all my Canon mount glass. I am wondering how good older Canon mount glass works with the R5ll. Including Tamron and Sigma glass. Which only works ok on my Sony. The R5ll has me thinking about Canon again. But i have been staying with Sony because of top quality 3rd party glass. Even though i haven't bought any of it yet for my Sony. And also because Canon and Nikons top glass is all so big and heavy like there 50 and 85 f1.2 lenses and there 28/70 f2 lens. Anyway i am ready to treat myself to a new camera. But i might still wait to see whats next from Sony. If i bought the R5ll i would start out by adapting my old glass that i barely ever use on my Sony. But then i think with 4000 dollars i could buy a few really nice new lenses for my A7r lll. I wish i could see a color comparison between an A7r lll and A7rV. And also the R5ll. Because recently i have been looking at some of my older images ftom my 5Dlll and really like how they look. So im going to try playing around with my 5Dlll again. Even though the focusing system is outdated and low tec. Sorry for the long rambling comment. Ive been holding back investing big in Sony to see what Nikon and Canon was going to do. But they keep making huge and heavy glass with almost no 3rd party options.

My only complaint about the R5 Mark II is that it's a downgrade from the R5C in ONE category. The R5C has proven that 8K oversampled 4K60p is possible and Nikon had 8K oversampled 4K60p for years but the R5 Mark II still limits it to only 30fps (4K-D Fine and 4K-U Fine are limited to 30fps). The R5 Mark II would be capable of 8K oversampled 4K60p as R5C has proven but Canon seemingly doesn't want to give us oversampled 4K60p to leave it as an exclusive feature for their R5C. Their newest R5 Mark II should at least match everything their older R5C was capable of. Canon gave us 8K oversampled 4K60p and then took it from us again. Cutting features from your newest flagship camera to leave them as exclusive features on an older camera even though their new camera would technically be capable of is a bad look! It's not too late to fix this by bringing 8K oversampled 4K60p to the R5 Mark II with a firmware update though. PLEASE CANON!

Why don’t Sony and Canon add 32 BIT FLOAT internal audio recording to their cameras? That will help the majority of camera users who are solo shooters. Panasonic LUMIX GH7 already has it. All the pros know audio is worth 50% of their videos. If the audio is bad, then the video is useless.

Funny how this is like $2000 cheaper than the R1, but has everything I'd want in a flagship camera. But also, the R5 mkI can be bought for like $2000 less than this on Ebay, so hmmm....

Its clear that the R5 II was made better because its the one people are actually going to buy instead of of the Canon R3 Mark ii sorry I mean the Canon R1😭 They are still good cameras i am glad canon is catching up😭

As a current R5 owner I’m not shocked about Canon not having any creativity for a mark ii. It’s 2024 and that the best they do? At 4200 bucks at that? Nope, not me Canon 😂

Could you tell us what R5 II should have been to be creative? Just curious
@mmpllc776 ай бұрын
@@thefairyfellersmasterstroke My point is this camera isn’t much of an upgrade from the original R5. You need to buy a separate grip with a fan on it to record 4k 60 unlimited? Come on, micro 4/3 has been doing that for years without the need of a battery grip. For 4k bucks it should do what a camera that cost 1500 can do

@@mmpllc77eye tracking auto focusing system which the R5 doesn’t have. Please pay attention to the features and not what you think is expensive.

@@Davitor1 oh yea, eye tracking auto focus is a game changer. How did those ancient photographers survive without it?

Many of the complaints people had about the r5 have been resolved with the II: -Poor DR? Markedly improved to 16 stops (?) -30min limit? Gone -Wobbly Ibis? Apparently improved -Micro HDMI? Now a full size -bad video codecs? Now has cinema codecs and an Sraw in 4k -Only Clog3? Now has clog2 -Useless pixel shift? Now useable in camera Not to mention improved speed and autofocus, better ergonomics and the new multi hotshoe. The only downside is the line skipped 4k 60p which I am surprised they couldn’t fix. I guess if you’re looking for a camera to shoot long periods of 8k raw then you’ll be disappointed but for the average shooter it’s pretty much good for everything.
