I love it!--mostly, I love it in white. Lots of people don't, and that's fine, but it reminds me of our old film camera that my mom had back when she was young (1930-ish). But if you choose to use it, as I often do, make it a conscious choice and know that it's not to everyone's liking.
@adriandayphotography
@adriandayphotography 2 жыл бұрын
@@marjoriebull652 it definitely has its place.. I agree and yes it needs to be a conscious decision. It really can make or break an image I like it but I don’t like the over use where it becomes distracting from the subject.. I find so many new photoshop/photographers use it beyond its artistic nature.

I think another would would be a head portrait of some random person, throw it in black & white, 100% contrast, 100% clarity, 100% sharpness and boom, done. No context. Just a black and white image of someone's face the the highest contrast, highest clarity. Then, add in the huge logo on the bottom lol These are definitely good mistakes to learn from though. Plus, everyone did the train thing. Don't lie! lolol

1. 0:30 - Avoid the “pleasantville” look (black and white with one thing colored) 2. 1:13 - Avoid the “raccoon look" (light setups w/ shadow circles around subject’s eyes) 3. 2:26 - Avoid making your model look “amputated” (model’s leg/arm looks cut off due to angle) 4. 3:28 - Avoid "the Undertaker" look (making your model look in a way that shows all white eyes) 5. 4:20 - Lose the Logo (Huge flashy watermark/logo on your photos makes you look wack) The rest of the video is just them criticizing other people’s artistic choices and a 2min ad at the end.

Ultimately it is also what the client wants yes? I've had clients want to do photos on the train tracks. I'll even be like "Oh, old school huh". But if that's what they want, then I'll give it to them. I've had clients want to do the selective color thing too. Artistically, it's over done, but oh well.

I would like to add one rule in photography... which is, there is no rule. Everything is a question of composition, of story, of ambiance, what's your image is gonna tell and convey.. The mix of black & white + colors is getting old, if it's discreet, it could still work (eg just the lips on a close up of a face looking down, maybe with a hat or some kind of shadows on the top, like a whisper). The train, I am not personally a big fan.. but what about those old rails that become mixed with vegetation ? Or even the train crossroads.. All of those for me are still a setting that can be exploited, but just must still show some originality, some story..

I feel like the rail tracks are a wrong choice if they're the sole thing in the background. Go a bit lower, remove the tracks from the background and find something else interesting, like a forest or a cityscape. The symmetry of the tracks is going to make an amazing foreground.

The rest of them are matters of style and artistic taste, but the train tracks?--that's flat out ILLEGAL! People have been KILLED--not making this stuff up, it's for real. Railroad property is always posted "No trespassing" and they mean you, friend, you with the camera. Not worth the risk, no matter how much your client wants it.

I see what you are saying Manny but I don’t think you can say a color splash photo or a picture on the trains track are an amateur thing. It's always great when a creative field wants to be "regulated" by such narrow-minded KZbinrs. Photography is about interpretation and how the photographer wants to express their image. If he wants to do it as a colorkey, what makes you think it's "amateurish"? I don't think you understand the principle of creative work and free interpretation.

Alexis Rose, the big watermark on the client's face is because those are "proofs"; they're just to show the client what the pics look like, so the client can make a selection of what prints to buy. Some clients, however, are so "frugal" [read: "cheap", conniving, and tacky] that they never intended on buying prints/digital files, they *just wanted the proofs* (and they can't see how *posting* the proofs on social media *makes them look cheap and 'ghetto'*). [Although re-reading your post, I could be wrong😆; could be the photog. I don't really know].
