I really like when Hat Kid starts singing "Oh can it be? Entropy" cause like- For a game with Time in the name, time shenanigans aren't really a thing outside this fight, and then there's the fact that Hat Kid didn't want to use this power herself. Perhaps due to a prior experience? Or just cause she needs them to get home. 🤔 Still, I kinda like how Hat Kid can often be detached from the conflict and very single-minded on the Time Pieces. They're hers anyway, so whether it be because she's a child or because she's an alien, it makes sense. She would very likely know the consequences of using them too much to change time, and well... Mustache Girl is practically ASKING to end the world, threatening the natural balance by taking morality into her own tiny hands and punishing everyone for even the smallest of crimes. She's taking charge her own form of entropy - a moral one, where if everyone's a bad guy, no one really can be, cause you'll be punished all the same regardless. And once she's punished everyone under her empire, who'll be left? It's funny - in the original game the enemies sacrifice themself to help Hat Kid and Mustache Girl is like "wait stop killing yourselves i dont want to be alone!" but what was she expecting? god i want a hat in time 2 with more time travel elements

In a time sense, absolute entropy could be considered the "end" of time. If everything in the universe is the same, everything is at the maximum entropy, then nothing can change. Time is meaningless, because nothing can change and nothing will ever change, like the heat death of the universe. If nothing changes, can the flow of time really be measured? What's the difference between 10 minutes ago and 1000 years in the future if its all the same?

I have an Idea for a Sequel game, to play it safe it be back on this planet but this "time" (Ha) the environment is alter in different points of time from the pass and/or future. Collecting Shatter Time Shards to return the land to normal. New Villain who want to destroy Hat Kid race of Time Keepers is the Villain and Hat Kid been away from her Home to keep the Time Pieces away from his attack. Returning home after the fight there very few left, Bow Girl there and other Kids but very few adults but the powerful phantom of time was stopped and trap, unable to be destroyed, Tim (scrapped character that can be reused and redesign) is the elder who left to watch over and train the rest, tutorial happen where you show off what you learn, and as they planned to launch the phantom into the sun to rest forever in there something went wrong and Hat Kid is stuck on the rocket heading back to the planet where she made friends. Trapped inside for a few years when she is freed she not the only thing free and The Phantom of Time start breaking time on this planet trying to find a new host body, and regain his power. We play as a slightly older Hat Kid (by 3 years) and now need to gather help and collect and contain all the Shatter Time Shards. Now thats how you keep the same gameplay but add more Time elements to it without actually time traveling.

Like I get that her methods were extreme and she needed to be stopped before time came undone, but when you look at the state of the planet - how forces like the Mafia, the Snatcher, the Nyakuza, even the bird directors were impacting the lives of those under their thumb - some "law and order" would absolutely be necessary, albeit a more well-reasoned system than what Mustache Girl tried to impose. As it is, the current status quo is probably great for all the main characters we meet (which is why they say stuff like "we don't need a hero") but... that's because all the main characters, Mustache Girl aside, are the ones in POWER over their respective areas. Think of what it's actually like to live on this planet and not be calling all the shots, to live as any one of the normal NPCs - the old folks getting beat up by the Mafia, the owls having their lives at the mercy of an uncaring boss, the inhabitants of Subcon living under the thumb of an evil, sadistic ghost. Mustache Girl's methods were wrong because she went after everyone indiscriminately, but I also take issue with the game making us side with the status quo and giving us no indication that ANYTHING will improve at the end.

Thanks you. I've been wanting this for a while and now on my 18th birthday I get it. This game means a lot to me. I actually found out about it from your Contract Has Expired video and fell in love with the game and characters and even though I was spoiled most of it the game is one of my all time favorites along with Elden Ring and Undertale. My online persona for the longest time was Hat Kid, I planned to write fanfiction about A Hat In Time, I watched hours and hours of it on KZbin. It was my first indie game I played and for the longest time. And as cringe as it is, I'm actually crying listening to this. I grew up with this game, and now that I am an adult now, this will be one of my core childhood memories. I'm scared about who I'll be now, but As Hat Kid in the video says, there's few bad or good guys. Mostly just people fumbling around doing the best they can with what they got. All this to just say, thank you Man On The Internet. Thank you for giving me not just a birthday gift, but for memories I'll cherish forever.

She's the definition of the ends justify the means. Hat girl meanwhile is just a passive friendly little girl, she's not trying to change the world, just make everyone's day a little brighter. despite at the end of the day being motivated by her own survival and desire to get back home, she never takes that out on those that are around her unnecessarily, she's not a bringer of justice, she's just a good kid.

Personally, I could still challenge what you say by asking if Mustache Girl doesn't just have a flawed plan. I mean, it's undeniably good to punish people who commit actions for evil intentions: Just because slavery was legal before doesn't make it good or moral. And just because Robin Hood steals from the rich to give to the poor doesn't make him malicious. I'm pretty sure that if Mustache Girl had a better approach on punishing the wicked, she could have been a much better reality leader. Because as we can see, this had yet to happen.

If you’re doing more A Hat In Time songs with lyrics after the Bytes I think a Toilet of Doom with lyrics would be neat. Since the Toilet is possessed by Hat Kid’s soul we could hear Emily (Hat Kid’s singer in Moti’s A Hat In Time songs) doing a campy villain voice or a more angry rampaging voice. The idea of Hat Kid possibly dueting with her own voice except it’s coming from a Toilet is just a funny thought. It also just makes sense as I think Moti has covered all of the Hat In Time boss songs so far except the Mafia boss (I don’t remember if Alpine Skyline has a boss) and the Toilet of Doom.

Mustache Girl wanted to punish bad guys, and perhaps a lot of them deserved some kind of punishment, but she didn't base this judgement on any objective standard, but rather her own feelings and whether they'd wronged or offended her personally. You see this in the way she judges Hat Kid, calling her selfish (not something any legal or moral system can objectively criminalize) then adding the redemption element of not having stood in her way (a self-referential standard.) Mustache Girl's world looks like a hellish nightmare because there were no rules, only a ruler.

This is the first analysis of Mustache Girl's character I've seen that actually hits the nail on the head of why her actions were so flawed, it's not because she'd "become just as bad as everyone else" but rather she was trying to put herself in a role that /needs/ to be objective while fueled by subjective, very personal vengeance. It's one thing when she was going after the Mafia Boss's head (let's face it, he deserved it) but the path she was trending down would've ruined everyone on the planet, good or evil.

Oh PECK! I remember hearing the songtober demo and hoping you'd do an embellished version someday, but I wasn't expecting a version that was TEN MINUTES LONG!! The wait was long and uncertain but y'all really delivered; everything about this is top-notch from the artwork to the singing/voice-acting itself (and the callbacks to previously covered songs are a great touch as well). I think my only nitpick would be that some of Mustache Girl's deliveries aren't quite as "raw" sounding as they were in the demo version, but again it's a ten minute song so I can forgive the VA for not wanting to pass out four minutes in (and the signing during Phase 3 alone deserves praise considering that probably would have killed a lesser person).

"A Hat in Time - Your contract has expired" was the first video I watched by Man on the Internet and I've been hooked on the channel ever since. Glad to see a finale to the "A hat in time series" to bring it full circle and have it be so epic as well.

To be honest, I have never seen Mustache Girl as bad in any way. The world (both ours and the world of the game) is really full of injustice and really, REALLY evil people who ruin other people’s lives and go completely unpunished. I should note that Mu's justice was not shown to be somehow cruel, because she really listened to everyone, just think about it, ABSOLUTELY EVERY inhabitant of the planet, before deciding what kind of “guy” they was. At least, the Mafia Goon whose judgement we watched just fell into a hole under the hall, and was not simply executed on the spot. We can't even tell if her justice was wrong because we didn't really see much of it. I’ve also heard some people say that Mu's gone “mad with power,” but I can’t even find confirmation for this, because usually with obsession comes delusions of grandeur and narcissism, which we don’t see in the game (remember, she’s literally says that she's “doing this for all of us,” that is, she unironically wants to help everyone). So her only crime is stealing the Time Pieces, but it's worth remembering that she didn't know Hat Kid needed those pieces to get home. Besides, Hat Kid does exactly the same thing in the seventh chapter, but without any reason... Generally speaking, I really think she is a 100% positive character and a real hero that no one understands. Because, as we know, some things aren't wrong just because they *seem* wrong, so I wouldn't consider her bad or evil just because, you know, "lava castle" thing.

@pascalbatronic same here honestly, aside from the lava thing, she really didn't go too far, and considering how many characters you run into in a game that is evil, it makes sense the place was so full from the snatcher to the mafia. Honestly, it's one of the few times I root for the "Villian" (mustache girl) and not the "hero" (hat kid) because mustache girl is doing something about the problem while hat kid chooses not to. Sure, you could bring up how hat kid needs the time pieces to go back home. But at the same time, if you see a crime being committed and you do nothing about it, you ultimately are no better than the criminal committing the crimes and let's not forget the mafia is what led to hat kid even showing up in mafia town back at the start of the game.

The only thing besides the time-rending that blows her out of proportion is the fact that Hat Kid befriends them all. Hat Kid doesn't have the prior knowledge of the planet or its morals the way Mustache Girl does. All she needs is the time pieces reclaimed and the timeline restored, no matter what that means for the planet's status quo of chaos. Plus we have the option to give her a time piece before we leave. She's the only one who gets that chance because she deserves it
