Me, too. On The Match Game! What did I know? I was just a kid when I watched that show. Nipsey was always so cool.

Charming! Such perfection in timing and delivery while making it all look spontaneous is real art. I loved watching Nipsey on TV reciting his clever poems years ago, and delight in Mantan’s movies and hilarious - really hilarious - party album excerpts here on KZbin. I highly recommend them: Very naughty and laugh-so-hard-you-cry funny. Geniuses!

It is so good to be from Atlanta, Georgia--you are literally related by blood or marriage to everyone native to the city; and Nipsey Russell is one of them!! An amazing comic and poet!!

Awesome. I only knew him from The Match Game, which I watched a lot in my youth and early 20's (I'm now 64). Tonight I decided to dig in further on this man, and I'm so pleased to see his awesome performances. What a talent.

I've seen this skit, several times before, and it never gets old. For some reason it reminds me of two seasoned dancers, who know each other's moves and are individually wonderful to watch.

Aside with preserving a classic routine, what I love about this is that this sit features both the old school of comedy (Mantan) with a younger and hipper representative of the next generation of comedians (Nipsey Russell). Mantan performed in the Rabbit Foot Minstrels in the 1920s around the time of Bert Williams, the father of black comedy. Nipsey one did a video with Chris Rock in his latter years.

sixty years later & "nipsy russel" is still being referred to -- as a synonym for "very black" by various comics who, I'd guess, count Nipsdy as a key influence. . .
