Mizong Luohan is an ooooooold Kung Fu style, quite possibly one of the oldest. It's the core style of the Chin Woo Athletic Association, patented by its founder Huo Yuanjia. 幸会各位兄弟兄妹! Super honored to be a part of your video. My name is actually Kevin Wong and my kung fu background is Kwangsai Jook Lum Ji Southern Mantis 江西竹林南螳螂 under Louie Jack Man 雷澤民. Just a little background on this video, it was from over decade ago and it was my first fight as a younger man. My only experience in martial arts was Southern Mantis. My friend opened a MMA gym with his brother (MMA fighter who was the coach) and invited me to train. It was great to get to do full contact sparring and test myself. After 3-4 months, we had formed a fight team decided to take Muy Thai fights with a local promoter. Even without Muy Thai training, my friends gym was very open to however you wanted to fight as it was truly an “MMA” gym. Having first fight jitters, it wasn’t the best or cleanest performance, but it was a good experience. I do believe Kung Fu techniques can be just as effective as any other style, especially the concept of “trapping” which fills the gap between striking and grappling. Trapping is an important aspect to Kung Fu (especially southern) styles and I know Southern Mantis has a lot of this to offer. However, I do think it takes more time, practice, and understanding to apply these types of kung Fu techniques (as it taken me almost until now to really apply it). Again, awesome to see this video and the great spotlight on Kung Fu. Hoping to see more and more Kung Fu fighters showcase themselves.

The last guy was really cool. If I’m not mistaken, Mizong is the style practiced by Huo Yuanjia (as in Jet Li’s Fearless), and i think at 10:10 he slipped into splits rather than dropping into any stance. Very nice showing from all of these kung fu fighters. From my humble experience with mantis I can't tell what style of mantis the first fighter was, but I can see he abides by something I was taught in taiji mantis which is to constantly change levels. That's pretty much what he needed to win, punches from below and over the top, a kick here and there and he just overwhelmed his oponent. In my choy lee fut school, backfists are called "kua choi" or "dap choi", depending on the variant. The first one is taught more as a combo initiatior or defensive backfist, the second one is purely offensive, often thrown while spinning.

If your style of martial arts can't adapt to its surroundings and rules, then it's not the martial arts, its the Fighter. Because basic striking is straight, right, hook, upper cut, overhand and jab. If you're a good fighter regardless of what system you represent, then you can adapt to your surroundings and adjust to play the rules. I think too many people who know nothing about kung fu outside of what they see in fantasy movies have a limited view and cannot accept that we're all just human beings. Our arms and legs all move and do the same things. Not everyone wants to be an MMA champ or UFC champ. Some of us just want to know how well we do fighting other fighters from different styles and learn from that experience. Many of us just want to be able to protect ourselves, our friends, and our families from hard if violence against us took place, which was the orignal reason why KUNG FU existed. For example, when Bruce Lee challenged the 67 year old Lau Bun, the founder of our school here in america, Lau Bun represented the old style of kung fu, where they wouldn't expose it unless they planned on killing someone with it. Lau Bun told bruce lee "Boy, I'm an old man now. I will not play with you, I will kill you." He has killed before using his gung fu here in america. This is why you don't typically see kung fu in competition. They trained to end someone's life if they had to. Btw, after Lau Bun said that to Bruce Lee, the latter left without further incident that day.
@bobsmith50702 жыл бұрын
The stories about Lau Bun are absolutely insane. If there's anyone in the history of American Kung Fu that can be described as hard, it's him, from his involvement with the underworld to his fights with immigration officers.

The TMA path is an individual one - by Sifu Frank 2022 When it comes to traditional martial arts (TMA) in modern times, one thing has been lost. That is the notion of "mastering" your chosen style. Mastering it doesn't mean being a good "performer". It means you should understand, comprehend, and "OWN" the material that you have learned and "Perfect it". What does that mean? It means you should for one, know the 5 W's (Who, What, When, Where and Why) of what you are learning. For example, if you are a big fan of Sweeps, you should know everything you can about "Sweeps" like how to practice them, how to build them, how to use them whether its for attack or defense, how to escape them, how to counter them, and so on. This is ONE way to "Master" Sweeps (this goes for all the tools that make up your system). For two, know how TMA works for YOU as an INDIVIDUAL. TMA should never be, as it never was, turned into a "Cookie Cutter Factory" of martial arts. By nature alone, we as individuals are and can be very different compared to the next man. What works for me, may not work for you. But, mastering martial arts means you would know exactly how things work for you and you alone. When you become a teacher, mastering the art will help and aid you in transmitting the art and how to shape it for the next person to find and travel down their own martial path. Any and all FIGHTING METHODS are only as good as the person using it. There's no way around it. If you are a fighter, then you should explore your TMA's tool box. For another example, "Righty tighty Lefty Loosie" was created to help people understand how to use a screw driver. When using Saw's of any type, you learn what to do and what not to do when using it. Same thing goes when using a GUN. A good student would learn the do's and don'ts of handling a gun or will suffer the consequences for their lack of knowledge. The same thing applies to TMA or any fighting art. By Itself, "OLDER" cars, guns, or tools cannot work without someone actually handling them and using them. This applies to TMA or any other fighting system. If the "USER" is inexperienced these tools will not work effectively for them until they come to learn and handle them with skill, knowledge and precision. The TMA path is an individual one. Our teachers become our guides to make sure we don't make mistakes that some have learned the hard way. Still, at the end of the day "Hard learned lessons are the best lessons learned. Know how to make TMA work for you as an Individual. - Sifu Frank

regarding tai shing pek kwar guy, he didn't listen to his master and went to party and drink every night, underestimating his opponent due to too much success. regarding switching stances, tai shing pek kwar is supposed to switch stances fluidly between peks, kwars, and hooks. however, due to gloved rules, they lose everything and can only throw hooks. the TSPK guy here isn't doing any of the fluid stance changes here though. Grandmaster Chan Sau Chung had several students winning championships, and some of them fought in very low stances, unlike this student who fights more upright. anyway, you can see the power of the hooks from tai shing pek kwar here that can change the tide of a fight. if he didn't slack in training, he should've dominated the fight.

Muay Boran, and by extension its descendant modern Muay Thai, has its roots in warfare, as well as ritual combat. Rooted in techniques passed down from India. (Muay Thai comes from the ancient Indian art of Musti-Yuddha. Ancient Indian Kickboxing) Kung Fu has gone through drastic reformation since the rise of Communism in China, with most if not all schools that taught proper combat being forced to comply with these new rules. He welcomed anyone to try. SO, Kenneth Wong went up on stage and blocked every single punch bruce lee threw at him, shutting him down. Bruce Lee was PISSED OFF and EMBARRASSED. Hung Sing Kwoon in USA had more than one encounter with bruce lee before he left the bay area. In fact, my sifu's first teacher Bing Chan was the person who drafted the challenge letter to Bruce Lee before the Wong Jack Man Fight. In america we did the best historically speaking.

It is actually hard to find the "actual Kung fu" in the ring. The older footage you go, the lamer it looks. The newer footage you go, the more it looks different from their traditional forms found in their old footage, and it looks more like kickboxing/muay thai ie sanshou. Over all though, they look like amature floppy kickboxing.

Do you honestly think Kung Fu people are supposed to fight in the way we do our forms? what is it exactly that leads you to think this ill conceived way? is it not possible to teach, practice, perfect the individual tools of a kung fu system and turn them into your own tools? Why is it 98% of people think that FORMS or kung fu movies are how we're supposed to look? From my position as a teacher of students who get into street fights and even enter the ring, and do well at that, i disagree with everything you said. And challenge YOU to post up videos of YOU NOT LOOKING LIKE FLOPPY KICKBOXING. But i know i'd DIE before you ever posted such an example to prove your stance right. WE will continue to do what we do and we know you're just bumping your gums. I suggest you just stick to your video games and leave the martial arts up to martial artists.

@@hungsingkwoonusa650 "Do you honestly think Kung Fu people are supposed to fight in the way we do our forms?" ... well not really and that's why Kung fu doesnt work. You teach kids forms that dont work in real fights. Hench like I said, when Kung fu actually puts in a ring, they dont fight like Kung fu. They fight like Boxing/Kickboxer/Muay thai. Btw, Muay thai and Boxing ... still fight like they did in 1930s. Whatever they did, they still do today. What they teach in classes are what they use in rings. I guess its time to admit that traditional Kung fu is inefficient. But the fragile ego just stops you form doing that o.o Someone is really mad out here lol

"I guess its time to admit that traditional Kung fu is inefficient" AGAIN, STICK TO YOU VIDEO GAMES. YOU'RE MOST LIKELY BETTER AT THAT. "But the fragile ego just stops you form doing that" which would explain a lot about YOURSELF, since you're not a martial artist or a fighter. Good Sh*t

Ok so if Kung fu works, why does it look more like Kickboxing/Muay thai today rather than their traditional forms in old footage? I thought Kung fu had long ass history. Maybe its all fake? Its either you admit that Kung isnt practical for fighting and be proud of old Kung fu footage ... or you can just admit that Kung fu isn't old at all and all those old footage of 1000 years old Kung fu is fake. So which one is it? Fragile ego is attacking. Please calm down and breathe. Have some tea and do some tai chi dancing. "what you see in our forms are the same things you see MY students doing in the ring or the street." ... so you dont teach your students Kung fu anymore, but more like Kickboxing? Where are all those old Kung fu forms? They dont work so you dont teach? You're a confusing man. Hey, dont forget to leave a like on my video games

@@iROChakri you really should stick to playing video games. It's nobody fault but your own for not knowing that when you put gloves on someone you take away half their kung fu. And as human beings we all have the same tools two hands Tunis two elbows two fists 2 ft and there's only so many ways we can use them I think you're really expecting to see a form or a kung fu movie in which case you'll never see it that way

If everyone would actually spar enough and integrate their unique skills into the kickboxing or grapplung framework then we would see kung fu flourish instead of espousing the magic internal chi death punch garbage.

When fighting there are only 4 5 styles that come into play or a combination of these styles. Boxing/kickboxing, throws, wrestling and submissions.... I didn't see any kungfu styles in this fights, only extremely poor striking. People who claim otherwise are lying to themselves

I said this many times and will say it again. UFC is very over hyped. KF full contact matches fights are just as fast and powerful than the last video we’ve seen. Speed and power. Seen too many of these cages and they’re slow and boring. Again, it’s just new Mellinials not around when tough fighters were around. Bill Wallace, Don Dragon Wilson, Sugar Foot, Benny the Jet and just many more were true hardcore fighters and would eat the UFC fighters alive. The speed, agility and power were there and I saw a lot of great techniques displayed. Majority of the UFC have zero techniques and just slugfest. If they were to go against these fighters from the 70-90s they would get destroyed. The first UFC was staged by the GRACIEs family that cherry picked and rigged all their fights to promote their BJJ. They were challenged by many of the top Kung Fu schools that were legit but they decided to cherry pick and ignore their acceptance. Including my own Kung Fu school.

So are you saying that TCMA doesn't have Straights? Hooks? Overhands? Uppercuts? Cross punches and jabs? and if you say we do, you're insinuating that we are wrong for using them as if there is some mystical chinese way of launching said strikes that would separate kung fu from any other striking system? If my system naturally uses elbow and knee strikes, are you saying we're imitating Muay Thai? Do you even study any type of martial art?
