I had a paddle shift 360 that I sold. I recently bought a 3 pedal 360. It is more engaging to drive and I am happy with the change. I plan to hold on to it for a long time.

Agreed, the 355 sounds the best, but the 360 is close with the small displacement and 5 valves per cylinder. No engine out service required for belt changes unlike the 355. Sounds better than the 430/458 and a manual gearbox is available unlike the 458. Very reasonably priced on the used market. 360 is best all around imo, I hope to own one someday.

Great video, and super sound, bought mine in 2004 ( F1 spider ) still love it. Tried the gated and an F 1 back then, the choice for me was easy, the F 1 just made me feel like a pro, while the gated took some getting use to. I drive only about 1000 miles a year in the car, and it still makes me smile every time. For those new owners who store it in the wintertime, remember to start in regularly.

thanks mate! What I like best about the F1 gearbox in the 360 compared to later paddle shifts is that in the 360 you can hear the clunk of the gear being selected! It's quite a satisfying sound. I love my F1 spider :)
@johnforeman6344 жыл бұрын
I agree with you that the F 1 is clunky. I went to test drive a 430 spider. It was red and I was literally salivating at how beautiful it was when I arrived. I mean, this thing was mint condition. I didn’t show my excitement to the salesman, but told myself if this test drive goes well, I’m negotiating on this thing right now. Well, 15 minutes into the drive I realized that there’s no way I could live with this transmission. I HATED it. It shifted clunky, sounded awful, felt bad and had a delay to it as well. I asked the guy “so do all these F1s feel like this?” He said “yes, I’ve driven lots of them and this is typically how they all are”. So, it’s not like I had a bad example or anything. I drove away so sad that my dream was crushed! Anyways, fast forward to two months ago, I just bought a 2001, 360 spider in Rosso Corsa with the manual shift after basically waiting and searching for the right one for about 10 years. Oh my god this car is awesome! In my opinion, the manual is so much better and more enjoyable it’s ridiculous. Anyways, that’s my experience, my two cents for what it’s worth.

If you crave having a manual, doing a conversion isn't extremely complicated, since your gearbox is basically the manual gearbox with a hydraulic actuator attached to it. This conversion has been done already. Basically get the linkage, the pedals, code the dash, and off you go. The good stuff starts in the second page: www.ferrarilife.com/forums/modern-v8s-360-f430/19123-360-f1-conversion-6spd.html

Nice weather! It was pissing with rain here all day in Switzerland... I drove a manual 360 Berlinetta, and it was amazing! Although, for the feeling of the manual tranny, one can turn to an MX-5 or S2000 as well. But I agree, the manual in the 360 is perfection.

@TheKRVR8 жыл бұрын
I completely agree with you; if you can find a 360 with a manual at a reasonable price, buy it, you won't regret it or lose money on it. The premium over here in the US for manual 360s has grown to around $20,000, which is a lot for the pleasure of shifting your own gear. I agree it adds such a special element to the Ferrari experience, but the price differential is pretty steep. The car is great either way
@FezzaYT8 жыл бұрын
wow, that's quite a premium. Here in Spain it's rare to find a manual but they only command a slight premium of perhaps 3 - 4K.

It's not till you drive a modern paddle shift car that you realise how clunky the old stuff is. That said, beggars can't be choosers and I'd have any Ferrari if I could. Always fancied a manual 355 Spider in yellow :-) By the way that exhaust sounds mega !

Hey my friend! really like your video! Despite the fact i think the F1 gear box is more confortable for everyday use, nothing can beat the sound of the manual gear box clicking when you change the gears! Is a classical sound... Congrats for the car!

Ok, let‘s face it: it’s 2020, these are 20yr old classics, it’s gotta be a manual. Newer versions with dual-clutch might be fine, but if you take our your 360 for a spin on Saturday, there is now question, manual! A tip: the Maserati 4200 GT is available as manual for a fraction of the price, and essentially the engine from the F430.

Nice video, nice car! I don't think the third pedal adds much to the 360. We set out looking for a manual but after driving both, in coupe and spider form, we actually ended up buying the F1 (three years ago when there was no difference in prices in the UK). We recently upgraded to the Challenge Stradale TCU and now, there's no way I'd swap, even though the manual has reached silly money these days. Enjoy your beautiful car, I just wish we had some more of that weather! :o) Oh, and most people forget that the F1 is a full manual gearbox...
@FezzaYT8 жыл бұрын
That's a good point. I need to check if I have the CS TCU...I'm not sure if I do. Oh and I'll send you some of our weather over ;)

Mark C .... full manual gearbox? Not sure what that means except it has a clutch and no torque converter. If you were looking at advertisements, would you look for a three pedal car under a filter of manual transmission? Yes. If you were looking for a F1 transmission, would you look under a filter of manual transmission? No.

As a prior F355 owner (and current 'gated' 360 Modena owner) - there is no question the F355 was a pretty car but I think the 360 is even better. The front of the F355 was really quite boring (except for popup headlamps!) and the 360's glass engine cover was a stroke of genius.

Do you think Ferrari should build a limited production manual car similar to what Porsche did with the 911R? I'm sure Ferrari would have no problem selling a car with a V8 or V12 and gated manual shift. I know that in terms of technology it is a regression, but obviously, there is still a huge market for those types of cars.
@FezzaYT8 жыл бұрын
I'm amazed they don't make a manual option. There are still the purists out there that would happily pay a premium for it. It's a shame that they don't.

oh dear! No, haven't had that issue before. Looks like it's not so easy though: www.clubscuderia.co.uk/forum/showthread.php?39946-Converting-Ferrari-430-instruments-mph-to-Km-h. Quality video. The only area I disagree with you is on your preference for the 360 over the F355. For me the ultimate realistic Ferrari is a manual F355 GTS in Red with beige leather.

Justin how did you edit the video to make it sound louder when you were flooring it at the 7 minute mark? Did you put another device closer to the exhaust and added it to the video? And where it was located? I know you have a capristo, I have a Tubi plus Fabspeed headers and high Flow cats and I have never been able to capture in a video the sound experience, and you have. Please explain to me how to do so. Thanks

I think the reason why there are far more F1's than manuals is that the F1 was the newest tech of the day. Must also remember that it is faster and "better" than a manual if the goal is to go fast around a track. And that is what Ferrari is about. I loved the manual I had in my 348 Spider, but I also love the F1 in my 360 Spider. I honestly don't think I would have chosen a manual in a 360. Or maybe? Anyway, I didn't.
