Ferrari F430 manual review. Why I would choose this F430 over a Scuderia.

The Ferrari F430 launched back in 2004 and hailed the introduction of Formula One derived technology to maximise driver enjoyment. Most were fitted with the F1 paddle-shift gearbox but a few escaped Maranello equipped with a regular manual gearbox and this is one of them. It's a gem, please watch the video to find out why..

I dunno, to me 430:s always looks like 360:s redesigned by Hyundai :) Also I hate those rear lights, looking like they're falling out of their sockets. Still, a manual 430 is probably one of the more sensible Ferrari cars out there.

Yeah, they forgot to do any tuning to the driving performance of the car. The motor is still in the factory setting. Nobody has tuned down the power. It hasn’t been tuned to anything yet. How about you tune the motor Harry, so it takes corners at 40km’s per hour instead of 200km per hour.

Just enough tech to make it usable and easy to live with, but not too much so that it stays an analogue experience. This is, in my opinion, the golden age of modern petrol automotive work. The absolute sweet spot.

Thank you so much for this video Harry. I've owned my F430 for 6 years now, and although it is an F1 version I absolutely agree with all you say about it. Especially your comment about it feeling analogue. While these cars are packed with electronic systems, Ferrari did a magic job of making the F430 feel like it is analogue, and dare I say a little bit raw, which is no bad thing, and how a proper Ferrari should be. Your road trip videos inspired me to do just that, and I have now done two fantastic trips to Italy and back in mine. It was nothing less than a faithful companion being completely reliable, comfortable, and utterly mesmerising on those mountain passes (Susten, Great St Bernard and Futa). In fact by some stroke of luck I did the Futa from one end to the other without being stuck behind another vehicle of any sort. Had the road seemingly all to myself, which was just shear joy and kept me smiling for days. Again, thank you for your wonderful videos, keep them coming, and I think you should give an F430 a home in your Barn :)

Nothing wrong with it being an F1 equipped F430, the point of this video was to highlight the F430 generally and to point out the manual version is one of the most exciting manual cars there is, while the F1 version is one of the best bang for buck modern V8 Ferrari. I wouldn't have a 328 or 355 but I'd love a 430 and maybe a 458 speciale or F8 Tributo. It's right up there so enjoy!

Following this review a couple of months ago I managed to secure a silver manual with black leather carbon sports seats with just 1400 miles from a dealer out of a collection. I had it all checked out and ostensibly it’s a new car and drives like one as it’s been properly looked after. I’ve had a number of wonderful cars in my life but this is simply outstanding; manual, naturally aspirated, designed for the road, perfect bhp/power/size for uk roads and the sound is like driving around with Pavarotti singing in the back. I can’t thank you enough Harry for making me aware. It’s an absolute keeper ❤️ and as you say “it’s a total gem, off the scale”. Thank you Harry!

@neilgaydon5430
@neilgaydon5430 7 ай бұрын
@@dylanwakley2553 2 years on and I love it more now than in the honeymoon. Yes, low miles can be a curse. This one had been properly stored during its life and Italia Autosport helped bring it out of dormancy. I’ve put on another 4,000 miles which would have been more but last summer was a wash out. So far only regular annual servicing, and the odd cosmetic touch up to keep on top of it ie the black grill at the rear was showing wear on the top which they resprayed in correct era paint total bill was £2k incl VAT which seems to be similar every year but then again Italia Autosport are fanatically meticulous. One minor issue was an exhaust bracket cracked which they welded (a known issue) at 3k miles and cost £250. The key is not skimping on preventative maintenance. Italia Autosport are rare because they literally go over every nut and bolt ensuring they oiled and protected trying to keep ahead of any potential issues. Touch wood this continues but am in no doubt a large bill will come along as it’s the nature of specialist cars.

I have to agree with you Mark, but just a few years earlier. I worked in a Ferrari shop for a couple of years and while there were several other makes on the floor, for some reason I ended up in the Ferrari more often than most. ;^) Another post commented on the different experience with an open car. It doesn't matter which model you're driving, an open top Ferrari (with a manual box) gives you the opportunity to play an amazing symphony whether it's a V8 pipe organ or a V12 pipe organ; they're both just spectacular!! That pedal on the right plays the most beautiful arias!!

In my humble opinion, the 575 suffered in terms of looks compared to 550 similar to 512TR and 512M. In both the cases, the pre-facelift cars (512TR and 550) were the better cars to look at (and drive). They just made the front end ugly and added an F1 shitbox to ruin the driving experience.

After owning a couple earlier Ferrari’s with manual shift, I’d thought I’d try an F1 shift and bought an 08 Rosso Corsa F430 spider. Honestly, I was worried that I’d not enjoy or get used to the F1 long term. Well, after a couple years now I absolutely love it! It shifts smooth and the downshifting is awesome. I would not change back to a manual. ( although the manual is more likely to continue to climb in value). I’d been doing that for 20 years and I’m over it. It’s a fantastic car.

Yeah, the rest was WILD THRASHING of the car. But what do you expect from a car that’s never been tuned for any road. How can someone comment about it if it’s never been tuned for a road? Race drivers tune for EVERY road they drive on AND for hot and cold conditions etc... All we see in these videos is USER ERROR. You say it’s bouncing at the corner, well, TUNE THE THING. The next 10 years are spent tuning the car. No complaints are acceptable here!

I have a 430. Its being converted to a manual as I write this. It is a wonderful car to drive and I think its the best deal for a used super car. As Harry mentioned best bang for the buck. Everything he says in the video is true. The part I don't like is the stock radio. It is just awful but I never use it. The engine is what I like to listen to. That is part of the driving experience and I have always been a manual guy so I hope to be more connected to the car when it is finished. I believe I can get the money back that I spent on the coversion when I sell my car due to the fact all original Ferrari parts will be used and the price of factory manuals have recently sky rocketed.

I was fire and ice when the F430 came out, over the years I forgot about it. But I remember the V12 Ferrari review you made some time ago. Both cars really shine now. Love that open gated box, and that sound of it. The V8 is a master piece, the Mezger of Ferrari. Love the review, SIr!

Harry, I’m enjoying all of your videos since subscribing. I bought a F430 spider manual a few years back on Dickie Meaden’s advice and haven’t looked back. Looking for a really good Fulvia now. Keep up the good work.

I chose an R8 V10 manual for all the reasons stated in this video and lower running costs. The F430 manual is absolutely the one to get in the Ferrari camp. Analog and sufficiently modern. Makes me so happy to see gear changes happening in a sunlit UK!

Wonderful review Harry and absolutely spot on in terms of this being a really special ferrari... mine is a manual spider and I bought it entirely for that gearbox - the last evolution of the iconic open gate shift. Great points on practicality also - i've had the boot filled with suitcases and soft bags and still managed to squeeze in my mates 4C spider roof as well after he decided to take it off during a road trip but ran out of room to carry it in the Alfa !

Refitting an F1 example to manual 6 in the States was around $20k USD for a time. This is the perfect video to encourage such a conversion. So much more rewarding hearing the ping in the gated shifter.

Harry has consistently produced the best high-end car content on KZbin. That damned F1 gearbox is tragic. It's almost like Ferrari said "Hey, we got everything just right with the 360/430 so... let's f@ck it up."

Elated to watch your review on the gated F430! I love my gated 430 (have a gander at my uploaded video) and will never trade it for a newer Ferrari. It is the end of a special era I have always loved Ferrari for. Cheers 🥂

Hired an F430 for a day some years ago. What a car! Drove up to Cambridge from London to see the family, and took 15 friends out for a spin. Scared them to death. Wonderful engine, relentless. Ferrari retail red, though! That Blu Tour de France is gorgeous.

Stunning machine! But the Scuderia can be converted to manual! I'm really thinking about converting mine in the future, I saw a Scuderia manual last year at an event in the USA, if I'm not mistaken it was converted in Texas, and since then it doesn't leave my head! Regarding the comparison with the F40, we know that in the real world the F40 is much faster, even faster than the Scuderia ... Always a great content

Now that is a genuinely proper Ferrari shifting skill, that very few can master. Even if it wasn't for that magical sound, there is hardly any other car that can provide such mechanical pleasure (transient response, rev hunger, connected shifting feel) . And the musical reward just makes it unique. To be able to enjoy this for a five figure price is just... well.. embarassingly good. Metcalfe is outstanding for pointing out at the non-mainstream sweet spots, showing us that lateral thinking and conventional, rational (but emotionally rich) approach can deliver the goods in spades.

Are you sure you can’t afford a Ferrari? My manual shift 3.2 cost £31k. Sublime at high revs! Very under-rated, now getting hard to find, but take another look at a 1988 Mondial 3.2! Buy a higher mileage too. A well used car with lots of history is the way into smiles!

First Ferrrari I ever drove was a Ferrari F430 manual and it blew my mind - totally lived up to all the Ferrari hype I had grown up hearing about. Absolutely love and this car. Have driven a 360 on the road too and agree with your comment - I never quite trusted it and didn't have the same connection to it when driving... Only just discovered your channel but really enjoying the videos. 👍

I never understand why the 575 F1 is so maligned. I've had mine for 7 years now and love the car. I just did 1,800kms of twisty roads in Tasmania. The F1 box never missed a beat, it's fast enough and you have both hands on the wheel all the time. Harry, you should revisit the car.

No he wasn’t. He would have taken it off Harry for not tuning the motor for the road, and dropping the revs to super low levels and risking everything by wild driving. Realise fellas, that YOU PAID FOR extra explosions to do a job better. What is that job? Why do you want it to do more at that point in time? Ferrari has OVER ENGINEERED the car. You got more than you could ever possibly use. Your first job as owner is to turn down the power by 50% -70%. Harry is extremely wild in his operation of the engine revolution range. He’s dangerous on gear changes too.
@dreyn7780
@dreyn7780 4 жыл бұрын
Remember, it’s NOT the race car version of this model. There’s no need to race it anywhere. You just operate the machine and tune it and then you fine tune it. There’s NOTHING where it says you jam the gears at rapid speed and THRASH the motor. You CONSERVATIVELY drive the car at around 70% revs with a detuned motor at around 67% of its maximum setting. If THATS TOO MUCH, you keep turning down the power until the car STOPS WHEEL SPINNING when you exit corners. You DONT turn down the power with the throttle lever/pedal. Do you understand it’s a lever! It’s called a pedal but ITS NOT the engine power adjustment setting.
