Manually Open/Close Sunroof on 2014 Jetta TDI Sportwagen

This video saved the day! Thanks so much for doing it! The only element I would add is that the screws required a Torx bit, and that once we got the Allen wrench into the motor, we had to turn counterclockwise to close the tilted sunroof. Thanks again. Phew!! You not only saved the day but my dads 75th bday.

You just saved my butt! My sunroof wasn't working when I got the car, my code reader said it needed basic settings, so I did that. It opened unevenly and wouldn't close. It appears that my cables are slipping and the motor wouldn't get the job done. Finally after screwing with it back and forth manually (thanks to your video) I got it to close all the way. It's about to start snowing here and I dont have a garage or under cover parking, so I was about to set the stupid car on fire and be done with it.

Many thanks! 2009 VW Jetta Sportswagen: Ours had a total of 6 screws to remove to get access. I only took one electrical ribbon (to expose the Allan Key hole) - be careful as it is glued to the black cross piece and you need to move it to get access. I was able to keep all of the other wires connected. I used a 4mm Allen key to turn the motor gears. This was a huge help for us - cheers!

Have same problem 2009 jetta sportwagen about open the sun roof as my motor on sunroof is not working. and need fix the drain away holes as rain coming into the car. Thanks for your Help !

And believe me you're going to need this advice because these Pano Sunroof's have shocking reliability issues, it's not the vehicle is bad, it's the Pano Roof that VW used from approx 2009 to 2014, they were and are awful ! but with all the videos ( such as this and others ) now on You Tube from owners, they have become much much easier, and more importantly significantly cheaper to DIY fix yourself ! Great tutorial here Myckal for anyone with a roof that won't reset on the toggle switch ........ Thanks

Does this close the tilt as well? Mine is stuck on tilted up, and I got it to this point but it appears this Allen screw only operates the forward/rear motion... any tips?

I found that in order to close the tilt it requires much more force, but yes manually turning will also close the tilt. Perhaps oil the hinges with WD40, and make sure there are no physical obstruction keeping it from closing. Good luck 😉

Myckal Morehouse Got it to work! More force on the Allen wrench worked, and greasing the tracks and piling the seals got it to work on its own again. Thanks for the reply!

I'm struggling to get the housing unit off!!! I have 2015 jetta. It has two screws and won't "pop off."
