I love the pace of this performance. It really brings out the beauty of the compositions and the darkness of the subject matter. All great music has a story to tell and this is achieved brilliantly here.

It seems to me that almost all of the other greats, past and present, rush through these. Barrueco doesn't play like he's trying to prove something as a guitarist. He gives these pieces the care and attention that they still deserve. The rhythms of this music are so much more compelling when they have the time to unfold. His playing is beautiful and emotional without being showy. That is rare.

It’s so refreshing to hear these played a tempo, rather than with lashings of rubato. (Fabio Zanon’s excellent recording is similarly measured in its expressiveness). Barrueco is the reference point for so much of the standard repertoire. I always come back to him, and always hear the music anew.

The expressiveness of the instrument often lends itself to idiosyncratic guitar playing, often at the expense of the piece. Barrueco on the other hand lets the piece speak. This requires high technical skill and musical maturity. This is why Barrueco is head and shoulders above most guitarists.

El estilo hermoso y técnicamente altísimo del Maestro Barrueco, en plena conjunción con la música incomparable y colosal de Villa-Lobos! BRAVO!!!!!!

Anthony McCarthy 17:30 to 18 (and beyond) he is squeaking about once or twice per second. But as joel salazar said, that is so entirely irrelevant and has nothing to do with the quality of a performance. The guitar is simply a noisy instrument! A brilliant performance by Barrueco. Loved every squeak.

Had to write a paper about the Five Preludes for my classical guitar class, and listened to this more than a dozen times. The paper sucked, but the music didn't. :)

I notice that a lot of classical guitarists in their senior recital sometimes play at least two or three of the preludes, or sometimes the whole thing. Maybe the question already has the answer, but how come these preludes stand out as guitar standards that most classical guitarists that I know often play? I can definitely see and hear how difficult the preludes would be seeing my fellow colleagues perform it in their senior recitals. Since I do not necessarily play the guitar or any instruments for that matter, I usually have difficulty understanding the character of pieces sometimes when there aren't any words. Just would like some clarification is all. #musiceducation

Слушайте и услышьте высоту его интерпретации. love Bream, but Maestro Barrueco is in a different league of virtuosity
@ViolentFury19 жыл бұрын
MyMomSaysSo what's virtuosity ? to me Breams music is simply better. When Bream plays calm parts of the piece he plays them calmer than anyone else, when he plays intense parts, he plays them more intense then anyone else. I dont get what you mean by virtuosity.
@MyMomSaysSo9 жыл бұрын
ViolentFury1 for one thing, he plays the music as written. Nobody did that before Barrueco, certainly not Julian Bream, et al.
@ViolentFury19 жыл бұрын
MyMomSaysSo did composers play it as written ? who knows, and does it matter ? Julian Bream simply sounds "better", more different colors, sound ranges, etc.
@JoelSalazarM9 жыл бұрын
ViolentFury1 I love Bream but your description of his virtues don't do him a favor. Calmer than anyone? More intense than anyone? that would be the equivalent to moving the contrast slider all the way to the right in any image editor and think you are going to get the best photograph. Interpretation is not about taking variables to the extreme, it is about making an intelligent use of the variables in order to create a combination that best tells the story you are trying to tell.
