Kibler's Longrifles

Jim gives a rare behind-the-scenes of the machining process for our flintlock parts. In this short video he talks a bit about using the Mazak Integrex I-150 with a bar feeder and shows the start to finish process for a tumbler meant for a Kibler Round-Faced English Lock.

It’s great to “see” a person not afraid to invest in what can improve their productivity and quality. This is why Kibler kits are so great. Good on you Jim.

Very nice. The 17th - 18th century gunsmiths are smiling upon you for working so hard to keep the tradition of longrifle building alive and well.

I am very impressed. 20 years ago I spent maybe 40 hours duplicating a broken tumbler by hand. I can really appreciate what this machine is doing. You bring ahigh level of quality to you work. We appreciate it. Keep it up. Sam Damewood.

I get a kick out of seeing Jim's enthusiasm for well-made, elegantly efficient mechanisms -- whether it's a three-century old, London-made, John Shaw 8-bore water fowling gun or a state-of-the-art, Japan-made, Mazak Integrex I-150, five-axis CNC machine.

Thanks for sharing what most companies would keep secret. And very nice to see a boss allowing time for things to be done right instead of smelling dollar bills burning every second during process development.

I enjoy this because it really is enjoyable for me to see a transformation of bar stock into something usable. Yes, there is a whole lot you're not seeing going on. Just wait until you see larger stuff being milled. Exciting, I tell you!

Wow! It is fascinating to me that some person or group of people thought through all the necessary elements to build a machine like that and give it the programmable capacity to do what the user wants it to accomplish. It is just insane to a "right brain" person such as myself. Give me some old-fashioned international relations theory - that I can handle. Thank you for the excellent content and an "insiders look" into the process of constructing some of the Kibler products.

Think about how long it would have taken a skilled craftsman to make this part 200 years ago... A day at the minimum? Then, the entire lock would have been painstakingly hand fitted.
