it is incredible people work in those conditions, no shoes, and sandals working with molten metal, truly ancient manufacturing processes with what appears to be very low quality casting, cast out of whatever scrap is laying around, zero metallurgy, third world manufacturing at its best.

It is some trucks and 4x4s have a hand brake drum on the gearbox that stops the tailshaft from turning

This is a tractor brake drum. It does not work like other brakes. It is a cage unit that holds plates - like a motorcycle clutch - inside this cage unit. It is simply a holder to keep the brakes secure and clean inside.

The road deaths in Pakistan and India are nothing to do with bad brake drums! It's due to the massive volume of traffic and literally zero highway code, traffic flow system or road safety system implementation.
