Hey Manveer ! Thanks for the video , super helpful. So I am just a beginner and even with the first one , I was struggling to catch with the speed. Is the speed to getting it to sounds as fast as yours something from practice or any beginner should be able to get that fast ? Because I am currently too slow even for the first variation. My dagga hand isn't quick enough lol
@ManvirHothi
@ManvirHothi 4 жыл бұрын
Hey Rajveer, no problem! Glad the videos are helping. With regards to increasing speed, it comes down to wrist/finger technique - it's something that I've been studying over the last couple months. There are certain motions that you need to practice which will ultimately improve your speed and clarity. I've come up with 20 exercises/rudiments that help in improving your stick control. I'm posting these to Patreon as I complete the videos but once all 20 are done, I'll make them public. As a first look, here are the first three exercises/rudiments: Exercise 1: Working with 'Na' kzbin.info/www/bejne/Y6CXo6qMrM-brKM Exercise 2: Working with 'Ge' kzbin.info/www/bejne/pKWvc2WBlpmnqsk Exercise 3: Single Stroke Roll kzbin.info/www/bejne/embOgat9nc6Ghtk To get a first look at these, you're welcome to join the community on Patreon: www.patreon.com/manvirhothi

Hi Manvir, I have recently started learning Dhol by just watching your videos, they have been super helpful, now I can play couple of chaal beats I am just wondering what is the bracket sign means here "DHA () NANA GEGE NA" Please guide
@ManvirHothi
@ManvirHothi 4 жыл бұрын
Hey Dj Perak, thanks for the comment! The brackets in this video represents a slight pause. So the rhythm will go - dha (pause) nana gege na. Keep in mind, when playing the two "gege's" the first one is a ghost note and the emphasis lies on the second 'ge'. To help explain this better, watch the video I posted on Motions & Stick Control, along with the recent video on Dynamics & Articulation. Hope that helps!

Hey Bhai, first of all thanks for the vids! I'm completely new to Dhol and your videos are helping me a lot... Q: I frequently miss strikes on tilli site (Hit on the upper rim). Is this normal for beginners or is there something systematically wrong with my striking technique? Furthermore, it would really be nice if you make a Vid and explain how the Dhol should be worn when using a strap instead of a stand. Thanks!
@ManvirHothi
@ManvirHothi 5 жыл бұрын
Hey Shifar, hope all is well! Thank you for the comment, I'm glad that the videos are helping out. I think your striking is fairly normal since your just starting out, just practice playing lower and eventually it'll become a habit. With regards to wearing a dhol, check out the "Community" section on my channel. I've posted a picture on a couple ways that you can hold the dhol. I can't make a video on just that, but I've been planning on making a video that encompasses the fundamentals of dhol ...hoping to get to that soon!

Hey bro, quick question: When playing variation 3 fast, 1 "ghe" gets eliminated also right? So it becomes: Dha na na ghena | na ghe na ghe na. Or am I seeing it wrong? 🤔
@ManvirHothi
@ManvirHothi 5 жыл бұрын
Hey Shifar, thanks for the comment brother. You're not wrong, but at the same time, the Ge/Ghe does not get eliminated. Basically what is happening, as you get faster, the first Ghe is played lighter than then following Ghe. I'm going to start dubbing these as "ghost notes" or "ghost bols". When you play two bass strikes back to back, play the first one lightly and then the next one at normal velocity. Hope that helps... I recently started taking drum lessons and they've been helping me understand dynamics/accenting more than I understood before. I'm hoping to incorporate some of these lessons in future dhol videos
