What does it mean? It’s actually a very important term that would help you out greatly if you understood. For example, when applying for the 189, 190 or 491 visa, you can accumulate your work experience from all closely related occupations for more points.
If you were applying to a state, for example, South Australia, and they have asked that you are working in your nominated occupation or a closely related occupation, South Australia’s definition of ‘closely related’ is very much more open than the Immigration Department. If your nominated occupation is accountant, you would be considered in a closely related occupation even if you were in human resources!

Hi I already lodged my EOI for 190 visa. I only claimed for the points as declared by the VETASSESS which is 4.++ points and 1 yr was deducted. My work experience in 312111 is actually 10 yrs plus but I did not have the documentary evidences uploaded while I submit for VETASSESS because I cannot get it from my previous employer. Can I still claim for the points for closely related skill for the yrs that was not assessed by SKILLSELECT? Though I have no documentary evidences uploaded to VETASSESS, it was mentioned in the CV I submitted. I would appreciate if you can clarify this. If I can claim for the closely related skill I assume I could claim for 5 more points. Thank you.

Under the 189 visa, can you apply for a nominated scarce skill (that is on the 189 list of scare skills) if your skills assessment is in a "Closely related Occupation" ? Using your example in the video, If the scarce skill of the Management Accountant is on 189 list of scarce skills, can I apply for it if my positive skill assessment is for a Taxation Accountant? Or does the "Closely related occupation" only come into considering when looking at eligibility to claim points for work experience?
