Love the video, but I don't understand the purpose of double bagging the liquids? It won't remove anymore of the air from the inside bag and also won't reduce the air volume within the inside bag. Is it because it prevents the ziplock bags from breaking open when freezing?
@CookingwithCatLover03303 жыл бұрын
I can keep these in the freezer a lot longer than just Ziplocks. When I do my soups and sauces like this, they last (without freezer taste) for a year of more. Good question. Thank you.

I've had a Food Saver for about 25 yrs . Three things that I want to say : 1) In the summer I freeze vegetables . I first freeze things like tomatoes, pepper and onions by freezing on a cookie sheet for a few hours . Then I put them into food saver bags and vacuum them. Sometimes, I mix those 3 together for chili . 2) When my children were born or big news events , I vacuum news papers for those events . When they have Children , they can show them the old headlines. 3) Over the years I've had to replace my Foodsavers. I just learned on KZbin that you can replace the suction gaskets! Wish that I had know that a month or so ago !

@OhPervyOne2 жыл бұрын
Another option if you don't have a rubbermaid container would be to use silicone ice-cube trays. Freeze your soup or sauce (etc) and then stack the cubes in your vac-seal bag and go. I was also wondering about just freezing the liquid in a ziploc bag, then the next day, open it up and use the vacuum-sealer to remove the air and seal it. That way you never worry about any bubbles in the bag. ever.

Here's another tip for everyone...... Put a book close to the device, put your item to be vacuumed / sealed on top of it, then feed it into the device. This keeps the bags more level and ensures the device can remove all the oxygen easily.

How do you make sure that that foodsaver sucks out all the air from the first bag. You seal the first one with your hands right?
@CookingwithCatLover03305 жыл бұрын
The foodsaver will not take out the air from the ziplock bag. I take out as much air as I can then I seal it and put it into the foodsaver bag. I do this because the liquid will pull through the foodsaver and I don't want that. It will keep for years in the freezer.

I know I am late to this party but I always put my liquids in the foodsaver bag only and leave enough room at the top to just seal then freeze flat. After freezing I cut just below the seal and then vacuum and seal. I set my foodsaver up on a cutting board so the bag and liquid stays down when I just seal it.
@patwagner93086 жыл бұрын
Hi...yeah, we've had a Food Saver for years. Would be lost w/out it. Food lasts much longer when it's been Food Saved. I've used meat that's been in the freezer 2 yrs. & it looks & tastes like it's fresh & new. I take advantage of sales & Food Save it. I've bought big bags of cat or dog food in order to get it more economically, transfer it to vacuum bags, Food Save it so it stays fresh for months.I recently bought the wide mouth & reg. size Food Saver parts that attach to a hose to the Food Saver so I can vacuum Mason or Ball jars . I dehydrate foods & put them in those jars...now I can vacuum them.

I didn't want all the liquid to get sucked out and I knew I had to do something! Some times my brain works in my favor, LOL! Thanks!
@cameranmanner47015 жыл бұрын
I used to partially freeze my meat before sealing to prevent or limit the amount of liquid from being pulled into the vacuum chamber as my sealer would do a poor job of sealing if liquid was present so i did the double bag with a zip lock. anyway you can leave the zip lock bag partially open and have it in the direction of the vacuum chamber inside the sealer bag. the air in the zip lock bag gets pulled out when the sealing process begins, the liquid will be slow to rise by that time the vacuum and seal is completed. it is possible to do a final seal on the zip bag by just adding pressure to the zip lock. not sure how necessary that is.
@martinneps93874 жыл бұрын
The vacuum seal bags can you re use them I would like to know and how hard is it to vacuum seal white sauce please comment back thank you very much

I do reuse the bags at times. Never if raw meat is in it or if it is a messy item and the bag is hard to clean. I've never frozen white sauce that I remember. Try freezing a little and then warm it up later.

is zip lock by itself not enough for freezing, why vacuum seal it ?
@CookingwithCatLover03304 жыл бұрын
If food is in the freezer too long, you can get frostbite on your food. It doesn't taste good. The vacuum sealed bags don't do that. I have pulled out food from 2 years ago and it tasted great.
@donotreportmebro4 жыл бұрын
@@CookingwithCatLover0330 that's right, I mean for dry food it's impossible to get air out with zip lock, but seeing you did mostly liquids, I had good success getting air out from ziplock with liquids, mushy lentils / dals etc, just got a vacuum sealer a few weeks ago though, but very careful with liquidy stuff since it can damage the machine

@CookingwithCatLover03307 жыл бұрын
I use the ziploc bags inside a food saver bag when the food is messy. That way the liquid doesn't go into my food saver. As the air is being sucked out so is liquid.
