You should have been building Gathering Posts for the resource piles. 10 People working at a Gathering Post can work multiple Resource Piles quicker than 15 people working on only 1 Resource Pile. Also if you have enough Engineers they should only be working in Medical Posts and Workshops. Also for nighttime you can turn on the Generator Overdrive to keep everyone warm while they sleep. Helps prevent them from getting sick while they're sleeping.

The A New Home scenario is nice, and you could enjoy the game when only ever playing that scenario, but the Refugees scenario is absolutely amazing. You have to try it - I'd suggest playing a practice round on medium so you can fail safely, then filming another play on medium or hard. It's amazing, and it is beatable on Survival with 0 deaths - but I doubt Jon could do that.
@Yasha_U6 жыл бұрын
Cocking hell you do not touch the second tier that fast jon You also are going to do better with gathering posts, they gather pretty fast compared to the pile gathering Steam hubs do not require steam cores. Steam cores are only required for big resource factory like coal mine (NOT THUMPERS) wall drill, iron mine and hothouse. Scouts are really essential for your survival as they can bring more people to your city (but also more housing and mouth to feed), but they will pay off in the long run as you're going to need a ton more coal and the people to gather them without the generator shutting down. Hunting does take a lot of people but later there's a tech upgrade that reduces hunter count from 15 to 10 which is amazing. A cookhouse can function pretty good with 2-3 people, no need to fully man them pretty similar to medical posts, esp when you're low on engineers. Faster gathering is really handy on early game, don't underestimate it. Extended shift is better than emergency shift, so pair it with fighting arena, and if you have time, get the moonshine law. People will stop complaining about soups. I generally prefer coal thumpers but coal mine is better if you have steam cores to spare. You can also use kilns to convert wood to coals.
@Yasha_U6 жыл бұрын
Once you got a lot of engineers, you can also build multiple workshop to speed up research progress. Child labor is nice to have, but i try to play with child shelter as they have an extra law that allows the children to be squires to either engineering or medics, enhancing the speed of research or recovery. At mid to later tier of the game, you'd do well to invest care house and prosthetics as well as automatons as they can streamline your typical rough holes, containing the sickly and giving them less food rations, no more amputees not doing anything, and a 24-7 working force at the cost of a little bit of efficiency (which is upgradable anyway)
@GaratghDeloi6 жыл бұрын
Would recommend going with coal thumpers rather then coal mines. Because coal mines shutdown in the last survival part (and even with a ton of storage it's hard to have enough to survive)...
@Yasha_U6 жыл бұрын
@@GaratghDeloi you're right! I just tried a run only using coal mines Coal thumper is straight up better. "Can be used with up to 2 gathering posts" Tfw i ended up building 3 posts just for onr thumper

Oh Jon, right from the start. Don't go extreme before you master the game! Child labor is... Eh. Child apprenticeship is amazing! Need that research. I'm only just starting so I still leave it there, but I just hope you either show great talent from now on or lose with honor, as long as you don't stop cocking playing right when things get interestingly difficult.
@chrisedwards38666 жыл бұрын
The Grinning Viking The child researchers are useful, but personally I prefer to pick child labor and have several workshops, at least in the Refugees scenario which is overloaded with kids. I can't remember the exact stacking effects, and if the apprentices can add an extra amount (was it 40%?) beyond the effect of multiple workshops. You can get enough steam cores to use hothouses for all your food, and the kids are great at staffing those. The biggest research bonus you can get is from using automatons in the workshop; after I research that I usually re-staff my workshops so that 2 (out of 3 or 4) are staffed full-time by the automatons. You can theoretically gain a bit more efficiency by switching the staffing at workshops every evening and morning so that engineers do the day shift and automatons have the night shift. But, in my experience the automatons can have a long period of refueling that is triggered when they switch worksites, and that can result in no research at all for several hours. And considering that it's easy to build as many workshops as desired, and the automaton ones don't even need heat, it's all-around easier to just give two entirely to the machines while the manned ones provide a boost during the day. And I always have at least two, because the automatons won't hit 90%+ efficiency until much later, and the multi-workshop stacking effect only applies once the research speed passes 100%. So, a pair of automaton workshops at 70% efficiency each will result in something like 130% efficiency total, whereas a pair of fully manned workshops would hit 140% (without the kid helpers). I don't use workshop automatons as much in the Refugee scenario, because it is shorter and the research focus is usually a bit different, but it's useful in Arks as well. Though I'm a bit torn on Arks because I don't have many other warm places to send the engineers anyway. This is all IIRC stuff on mobile, so my percentages may be off. Also I only play on extreme/survivalist difficulty now (except for the New Manchester scenario, which I'm still learning in hard mode) so the development focuses may be different. To me, this is the most replayable game since Minesweeper.

extra labor hours all the early game, with 2 workshops shifting 24 hours one to another changing workers as needed, kitchen outside the first ring of heat, and you gotta have shelter and 1 hospital for the first night. fight clubs are amazing, just get all your hoses together and rush the small area heaters i forgot the name. honestly this game isnt that hard. but the early game is really punishing if you lack behind. child labour is amazing to be used as gatherers so adults can focus on hunting until you get better tech

It's a bit weird in this game And worse from a logic pov in high dif. You'd think people in this situation are themselves interested in Surviving. That they complain so much and about silly things like not liking soup really makes no sense. It's a bit game mechanic for the sake of it.
@chrisedwards38666 жыл бұрын
5Andysalive that's definitely logical at first. But, the workers do a lot of their 'personal' stuff in the off time, like eating. And they'll build things all through the night and morning. But keep in mind, people will use time away from work to do critical things that aren't their dayjob: repair clothes, repair or improve their tent/house, take care of their family, or just rest and recover from manual labor.
@5Andysalive6 жыл бұрын
But still. The imperative need to survive must be obvious to everybody in this situation. Obviously they complain if they have no houses or no heating, but some complaining feels completely silly. so does the fact that the others put up with it. They moan like sims who don't like their couch. Or Anno settlers who want coconuts.
@chrisedwards38666 жыл бұрын
One thing that we haven't considered as much is that the workers complain - but they don't refuse to work (except for occasional special events where the player can end a 24 hour shift early). Their discontent rises - but that's discontent with their leader, not a refusal to help the city. So, the threat isn't that they don't work, the threat is that they'll think the leader is incompetent and disorganized, and needs to be replaced with someone better. And with Jon playing, let's be honest - we know the leader is incompetent and disorganized. The workers will be a lot better off if they replace him. And at the end of the New Home scenario, the workers do show that they'll do long or 24-hour shifts without complaint, because they know the situation is dire and the leader has earned their trust.

Jon, if you ever go back to Frostpunk (which I hope you will!), there are loads of useful stats in there, showing you your food deficit, coal consupmtion vs. gathering etc. It takes the guesswork out of the equation, at least when it comes to the status quo.
