Kyle, thank you! I lost my key and couldn’t figure out why my other two keys didn’t work. I assumed a key place could put the code from the keycard on the keys and they said neither key had a chip in it and they were not familiar with KTM. I was just about to get it towed to the nearest KTM dealer because they said they had to have the bike there to sync the keys. While I was on hold with AAA I found this video, tried it and PRESTO, bike started right up. Thank you for taking the time to read the instruction manual and make this video, you saved me a lot of trouble and time.

Just bought a "New to me" 2016 1290 Super Adventure. Battery was deadish so I pulled the battery and wired in a pigtail for my jump pack only to find out after multiple jumpstart attempts that I messed up the programming on my key. Nothing I did fixed it until watching this video. Thank you so much for the fix.

I recently had a renter break a key! My Last one… the replacement black keys are backordered. I had to replace the ignition all together… $800 then $200 to pair it with the ECU.

I just did the same. The new ignition comes with 3 keys. The orange & two black. I installed it myself at home... but had to take it to the dealer to get the new ignition to talk to my ECU. Hour of labor for 15 min of computer work. Oh well....

I bought my 390 adventure direct from a dealership new, they only gave me one ktm key and the key code card. Is that normal? If so do you know where i can get the second key? through ktm?

As far as I’m aware, al bikes come with three keys and the code card.

Just watched this, I own a 2008 RC8 that i tried to start with the spare key last week, now throwing the immobilization code. But my original key is no longer working either, seems like module is on lock down. Hoping this is the fix, im going to bust out the magic orange key today

I have an 1190 Adventure and lost the second key. Knowing that if you don't have a working key, you're stuck, when I lost my key and was using the back-up key I was always having little unpleasant moments of, "where's my key." And several times I misplaced it and had to spend twenty minutes finding it. So, I ordered two keys for the bike. I had to include the code that came on an orange and white card that came with the bike and a copy of my driver's license. In other words, I had to prove I owned the bike. Apparently these bikes are among the most stolen in Europe. I order two keys through the dealer. It took over two months to get them, supposedly because they had to be cut to fit my bike, and they were stored on the moon. The process was close to that shown here. The orange key wipes out the programing on all keys, but prepares the computer to program the next keys that are inserted. I first inserted the working key, although I don't think the order matters, then the first new key, followed by the second new (back-up) key, and finally, the orange key again. All three keys now work. Incidentally, the Owner's Manual was of no help. The new keys cost $125 each. Your best bet is to not misplace, or outright lose the back-up or primary key. I do appreciate KTM's sensitivity to the fact that the bikes are attractive to thieves, and their efforts to discourage them.

Found a video on how to use the orange programming key. Works a few steps, but not all the way, so the bike won’t accept the new keys. What to do? I have the old orange key, but can’t use it because it’s parts of the old key inside the old system

If i bought a new lockset from dealer and when i try and start the bike it turns over but wont start and i have a red flashing light it flashes 6 times with black key then repeats. Is that the immobilizer? Do you have to program the keys if you buy a new lockset or are the keys already paired to the new immobilizer that came with lockset?

It sounds like you need the red key to in order to tell the computer on your bike that the new key / immobilizer are legit.

The RC390 should have a regular key not mapped to the computer. There isn’t an orange key for your bike that I’m aware of...

Do you have the card that the keys came with? That card has your key code. Take that to the dealership and they will be able to help you out.

Yes. Have your vin number and engine number ... call them and they should be able to get you a new key. They will have to reprogram you bike too. It’s a process.

Using the new black key, it blinks red. Using the new orange key, the red light becomes stable. Putting in the new black key again, and red becomes stable. Putting in the orange, blinks twice. So far, so good. Putting in the black again, and I was hoping for it to work, but blinks red again. Seems like the ECU or something might need some reprogramming?
