Does Mahle offer MAP unit's for older cars that would standard thermostats from the factory? Or a uni ersal unit the has barbed fittings for hoses to connect to?

Ok Now explain why Map units fail more often then a regular unit ? Iv had 3 fail on me on 3 different cars all MAP units? Iv never come across such a poor reliance on a thermostat before

Yup - they are rubbish. The heating elements die pretty quickly, then the car overheats. You'll usually get an insufficient flow code when this happens, which is of course too late. Seen many a head gasket done from these stupid things. The motor operated units are a lot better.

Thanks for the video. So when the heating element goes bad, it could potentially harm the engine because the thermostat may not open in time to protect parts from overheating.

If the heating element goes bad the thermostat will still function as a conventional thermostat. Failure of the heating element will also cause a vehicles check engine light to illuminate, notifying the operator of the issue.

@@MAHLEAftermarketNA Thanks for the reply. This is exactly what I see now on the car. The video mentioned that in high load conditions the heating element can help cool the engine sooner. I guess I'll need to repair it soon.

Show this video to my BMW e92 thermostat .... obviously it forget how it's done and throw a 2ef7 Error!

It's been 2 years , me too i'm waiting on a reply on that ! 😤

That error code corresponds to an "open circuit" for the heating element. This is to ensure that if something goes wrong, the thermostat "fails open," rather than having the element fail and keep the thermostat closed causing an overheating situation. Check the fuse. The fault is recognized when an open wire is present. Potential problem source(s): - Defect in wiring harness between DME and map-controlled thermostat - No voltage supply to map-controlled thermostat - Map-controlled thermostat defective - Check wiring harness - Check power-supply voltage to map-controlled thermostat - Replace map-controlled thermostat

Sorry for the slight delay in the answer didn’t see the comment message before … my problem was faulty water pump and sensor …
