Cody, do any of these EEG products have SWS enhancing features. I presume you're aware of the relatively recent research involving the precise timing of " click " sounds at the peak of the delta wave which then causes an amplification of that wave. Because a bigger wave is a better wave when it comes to Delta waves during SWS:)

Hi, Cody. I just subscribed. I am wondering if this headset would be helpful for my ADHD. I have done lots of other work: CBT, amino acid therapy, stimulants, etc. The CBT and amino acids have helped a great deal. I am now wondering about affordable neurofeedback options to help with focus and improving "healthy" brain activity, as opposed to racing thoughts or a sense of slow, or no, thoughts, that I experience from time to time. Would something like this help? I am also researching dopamine receptor deficiencies in ADHD. As a psychiatrist, any insights on that matter? Thanks.
@CodyRallMD
@CodyRallMD 7 жыл бұрын
Yes there have been several researchers reporting good effects with this headset with ADHD. It teaches the mind how to redirect your attention to the breath, which is translatable to other situations in which your ADHD may distract you. **Disclaimer- the large size clinical data is not yet in, but Muse is working with several research institutions to show improvement with ADHD. Most findings have been anecdotal case reports, however have been quite compelling so far.

How I can use the biofeedback to calm my mind ? I always get active mind for the most duration of the meditation. So the sounds of storm and birds are just for me when I'm doing good or bad but , are you suggesting that I can use it to calm my mind or just the I formation of the status of my brain ?

Hey great video. I am a master student in cognitive psychology and was wondering which device ( Emotiv, muse etc) would you recommend now as 2016
@CodyRallMD
@CodyRallMD 7 жыл бұрын
Thanks Pierre! Will you be doing research with it? Emotiv has a 14 channel EEG that will be more precise for research purposes. If you just want it for meditation neurofeedback, Muse has really done a nice job with the mobile software.
@Aqualanche
@Aqualanche 7 жыл бұрын
Emotiv has also a more recent model called Insight which is comparable with Muse in terms of mobility and meditation neurofeedback. Would be nice if you could compare the two. Emotiv promotes Insight big way, and I must admit it looks nice but I heard it is difficult to calibrate and get adequate data. Any experience with that? Btw, it is a 5 channel EEG.
@CodyRallMD

What about using it to stay focused during work? Lets say I am doing math and I want to stay focused, would it detect when I get distracted? The reason why I am asking is because when you work your brain is still "active" for there is a difference between being distracted an focused.

Hi Cody, Is it possible to listen to other music apps and still use the Muse headband and app to collect brain data? Or maybe wearing the ear phones connected to another device like a computer so you just capture brain waves in the headband and app from differente sounds and music without the necessity of the music from the Muse app? Also is it possible to collect data while awake in a regular work day or sleeping at night without any music at all? I am searching for a headband that I can study the brain in all situations instead just for meditation?

I have bought the muse 2. The rain volume raises and drops every few seconds quite fast wich is very anoying. Is this normal?
@JuicePod
@JuicePod 3 жыл бұрын
It's normal I believe because when it gets louder you're brain singles are drifting off and you are distracted and when it gets lower you are more relaxed and concentrated. It does this to help you learn to quiet the mind and meditate better.

Just make sure you have a good connection between the sensors and your scalp. Use some water to dampen. Sometimes a bad connection will make the feedback inconsistent.

Thanks for the vid. One point of correction, you keep saying "biofeedback" in reference to the sound in the ear buds. It is not "bio" feedback it is either just feedback, but more precisely it is "neuro" feedback. Biofeedback comes from data derived from the body such as heart rate, galvanic skin response, skin temperature, or muscle tension. Biofeedback is coming from central nervous system data. Its what makes this tech truly exciting. We are looking at the brain!

Neurofeedback is a type of Biofeedback :)

People who administer Neurofeedback like to make the distinction. It's more accurate and specific to specify the kinds of feedback you are doing. Using that term will make you sound a lot more credible to those who know the field.
