Kim Tippin Wood Turning . Hi Kim , it is strange that I sit here having my breakfast first thing in the morning, I do this to see what's new on KZbin in the way of wood turning. If I may ask you a question are you self-taught or somebody teach you , Or was it like with a lot of things in life it's practice that makes perfect, ??? . Is there a particular wood that you like turning and do you like turning green wood over dried wood, stay safe. Where a mask face shield on to protect your little lungs and your pretty little face, Retired Englishman living in France, Phil from the Moulin in france
@KimTippin4 жыл бұрын
@@philipvale1674 Self taught. I love turning walnut, mesquite and sycamore. Green wood is a lot of fun. Both dry and green have their place and I love turning them both. Everything I turn is practice. probably always will be. 😉 I do wear ppe. I do like my face to stay on my face. 😆

Kim Tippin Wood Turning , Hi Kim Thank you for the reply, I am trying to get back into wood turning, and been looking at Resin casting as well but I don't have a lot of money like I used to as I am retired and living by myself in France , Over the years I have made furniture for one of the universities in Cambridge don't work in some of the places in London , as well I have done sub contract work for walkers the organ building Company in England, where I was involved in making organ pipes made out of timber for one of the universities in Seattle with walkers were actually involved in making the complete new organ, And as for wood turning in 1998- 99 I was involved in making pepper pots that were going to be covered in silver for the millennium I lost count after the first 2000, these were made out of Blackwood rosewood Ebony and a plastic , are these for actually turned to a pattern. Over the last 7 to 8 years I've restored or converted three Barnes And made all the special windows and doors, One very large farmhouse which had gable ends going off in different directions and under the end of each Gable was a 5 foot plus finial which I had to turn in Douglas fir Which had fascia boards on the other side and these were scalloped on the underside. As well as this seven years ago my so-called partner and myself brought a property in France , The Moulin- mill , it's no longer a mill but a dwelling to live in , long side a stream. Sorry for me rambling on I don't talk to people much, keep up the good work and stay safe. Phil from the Moulin in France

Incredible. I actually love the way that the pulverized turquoise spread around so that you can see the wood through it. It emphasizes the aspect of it being hand-made, and proves the fact that you aren't afraid to improvise. You did a wonderful thing. Thank you for sharing it.

Hi Kim! You did an excellent job in spite of the difficulties. In fact, you inspired a thought in me. I don't do turning myself, don't have the equipment for one thing. But you gave me an idea that I think you could make an excellent job of. Get a piece of wood...one in which the center portion of one end could pass for an island...and trim around the outer inch or so to put in your blue color "water" (epoxy) . Instead of cutting in and making the center of the piece shallower, you would have a peak rising out of the outer bit in the center. Think about it at least.

Omg Kim this looks so gorgeous! The colors remind me of the Scottish Isle Iona since the sand on the beach has the color of the maple and the sea the turquoise of the rim. I can easily imagine you using other crushed gemstones like amethyst, rose quartz or crystal rock in future projects. As a matter of fact a dealer here sells picture frames with splinters of the aforementioned. But the ground gemstones/sand would look even better. I am going to look for ground gemstones for you. Will send them to you when I find it. Advice/iron rule from Capn Eddie Castelin: never bring a rag to the lathe. Why? If it gets stuck on the lathe for some reason it can rip your hand of. Paper doesnt do that since it rips easier. Have a blessed weekend. Here in Germany it is going to be a hot one with over 100 degrees Fahrenheit.
