Hi Kim! I've seen about a dozen videos of you woodturning (ever since I subscribed). When I saw one of your videos for the first time I was like: "Ooooh, a female woodturner!" I thought that was so awesome. You have such a pleasant voice and you make very pretty things. I'm not a woodturner but I find it very interesting and calming to watch. I hope that you can keep doing this for a long time. Have fun with it! Oh and you're funny. Keep being you!

Just watched your creative and colorful production. Loved it. Your style, voice, calm excitement all contribute to making my morning breakfast a true joy. By the way, I just started experimenting with alcool ink also. The possibilities are endless. Applying a second coat on the bowl bottom part while the first one is still damp and while letting the bowl turn on the lathe will create rays that will diminish in width as you play with the lathe’s revolutions. It gives the appearance of a sun burst. I use old bed sheets to protect the surfaces around. Bless you. Levis the turner

Excellent work Kim! You know, I think you should do a "What Inspired Me" video, just a history on who and what inspired you to start your journey, maybe even address a list of questions that you have been asked that people may find interested to hear your reply on. Just you know, get a cup of coffee, or 2 and just share from the first tools or equipment you started with. Maybe talk about your turning tools, angles of grinds and the pros or cons of your experience trying different angles and such....Just tossing it out there Kim, I would find it interesting myself 😉
@KimTippin4 жыл бұрын
Thank you 🤗🤗 That would probably require a live one day. I talk way too much to be let loose on that field. lol

...don't forget the squirrel running around too! I hate to admit, I actually clicked the "Like" button within the first 20 seconds of the video because I knew I was going to like it. I'm in love with your finishes; they are so amazing and this one is no different. That break from the traditional "wood grain" finish (or whatever it's called) and using something that has a huge pop of colour is quite refreshing, as is your positivity and passion you put into your work. Peace and love to you!

Shellac is food safe. And it's not just me saying it, the FDA says it. Shellac is used to coat pills in medicine as well as a coating for fruits and vegetables. Sometimes referred to as 'lac wax'. Coating wood projects in Shellac is always food safe. Great bowl!! I love the depth the epoxy coating gave it.!!
@wardausman27954 жыл бұрын
rea59 Isn’t the real problem with shellac eating the tiny chips that fall off during use with forks and spoons?
@KimTippin4 жыл бұрын
Thank you 😁 Zinsser Shellac (from a can premixed) Is not food safe. I called them to verify this info (1-877-385-8155) and downloaded the MSDS. I recorded the conversation I had with the customer rep.She clearly stated it is NOT food safe. Shellac itself IS food safe. When cut with Alcohol (drinking alcohol) IS food safe. I thought that Zinsser's was food safe also. It is always best to call the company and download the MSDS whenever possible. Got to cover your rear :) www.rustoleum.com/~/media/DigitalEncyclopedia/Documents/RustoleumUSA/TDS/English/CBG/Zinsser/BEY-06_Bulls_Eye_Shellac_TDS.ashx www.rustoleum.com/MSDS/ENGLISH/316.pdf

@@KimTippin Thank you, I didn't know which particular one you were using. Yes, the shellac itself is food safe but the additives used by different manufacturers may not be. Thanks for looking yours up. I too use Zinsser and had thought it was 100% Shellac. Now I know better.
