Gord - like how the wood spoke to you after that knot flew out ... just a design change, and on you went! Enjoyed learning about coloring the wood - Thanks!

Hi Gord. Good to see you working with colour again. I love the red. Great grain showing too. Not sure about the spots of darker colour yet...for me they distract from the grain but you know how much I sometimes disregard the grain! Cheers!

Hi Stewart, I liked the effect of the spots for awhile but the more I look at them the less I like them. I had considered turning the whole thing away and colouring it again but I think I will keep it as is, to remind me not to do it again! You continue to inspire me with your colouring and I will keep trying to improve. I have a LONG way to go! Thanks for watching, Stewart. Take care, …..Gord

@@GordonRock1 Hi Gord - I've got a few 'reminders not to do this again' in my workshop too! The fun is being able to turn it off and have another go. Some of my favourite results have come from a first or second effort that were hideous! Happy colouring! Cheers!!

A good job done Gord. Lovely form to the bowl, and the colours still showing the grain are very effective. Great video mate. Cheers Mike

Thank you, kind sir. I rather enjoyed doing that. I think I might have to try more colouring even though a lot of viewers seem to prefer the natural look of wood. Maybe they have never looked at Binh Pho’s work! Take care, Mike, .....Gord

I like the design Gord. The red looks great but, I agree that the spots didn't work. Perhaps an airbrush could mix and feather the other colors better. I wish I had such beautiful wood to experiment with, lucky you. ;-) Looking forward to seeing your next project.

Thank you for the critique, Gil. I quite like it when I finished with it but the more I look at it the less happy I am with the "spotty" look. Something to keep working on! Thanks for watching! Take care, …..Gord

Brilliant experiment Gord! I have resisted getting into colouring wood as personally I prefer natural ,however I have had a few people express an interest in purchasing something like this , Maybe I think its time ol' Bram has to bite the bullet and to experiment too :) Great video Gord and an inspirational one too. Cheers, Bram

Thank you, Bram. It wasn't too long ago that I would have agreed that natural wood was the only way to go but I'm really enjoying playing around with colour. Still, I will never stop appreciating the look of a beautiful piece of wood in its natural state. Take care, …..Gord

Quite nice! I like the clarity of the inks, like a dye stain. I'm wondering how starting with the yellow and adding the darker colors would work? I know, by my own inks! 😁
@GordonRock16 жыл бұрын
😂🤣 I guess that would work. I hesitate to try that because I think the darker colours would obscure the lighter ones as they are added. I could be wrong but I wait breathlessly for your example! 😃😃 Take care, .....Gord

I was initially happy with it, Alan, but the more I look at it the less happy I am. I will have to try another one and attempt to make it less “spotty”. Oh well, another lesson learned! Always appreciate your comments! 😃😃 Take care, .....Gord

Can these colors be put into a sprayer?
@GordonRock16 жыл бұрын
Hi Charles, I just did a search on KZbin and there is a video called Alcohol Ink Experiment: Airbrush which should answer your question. It seems to work fine but the guy who made the video didn't say anything about what it's like to clean up after using. I hope that will help! Take care, …..Gord

Love the shape and experiment, Gord, but like others, I'm not really digging the spots. But like you said, it was an experiment and that's what we get sometimes. Can't move forward without it. I do have one thought though. Since you left so much of the rim (which I like) you could have turned it the other way around and left that beautiful crotch flame on the top side of the piece rather than turning so much of it away and hiding it on the bottom. Billy
@GordonRock16 жыл бұрын
I know what you mean, Billy, but this was at least the fourth piece I turned that I wanted to colour and every time I would look at the wood and decide it was too nice to colour. This time I decided in advance that I was going to colour it no matter what the grain was like!! Otherwise I would never have coloured anything! 😃 Can’t wait to see how many people are going to hate it if I ever learn airbrushing. 😠😠 Thanks for watching, Billy! Take care, .....Gord

I’m with Glen here. The spots aren’t my thing either. Beautiful wood that would handle a nice stain a lot better IMO. Still great work, and nice working creatively around that knot blowout.
@paulcampey4656 жыл бұрын
I'm with Glen and Chef, the spots don't work. The wood was too good to have an random colour pattern. Colour should be used to enhance the charter of the wood. Yours had some lovely figure across the centre you should have used the colour to highlight that feature.

Nice experiment Gord. May I recommend looking at color pallets that interior designers use for their designs? Choosing three primary colors doesn't do the turning justice. Try googling color wheel tutorials. Love your videos, so please know I'm trying to offer constructive help.

Nice, Gord. However, if you find yourself taken with coloring, those itty-bitty bottles of stain will suddenly become woefully insufficient... :-) Clyde

@Gord Rock 😊 i didn't think I would like the effect of the dye, but did end up liking the contrast of the rim to the natural color in the bowl center. I just found the dots or spots to be distracting. And thats just my opinion... I think it is always worth trying an idea. Ive had details i initially thought were mistakes or bad ideas turn into things I really liked. PS i got that make, fail, make, fail, make quote from kzbin.info
