A quick cooking hint. When making pancakes stir the mix carefully until it is just barely mixed. The faster and more you stir it the tougher the cakes are when cooked. A spoon is better and use a fold and turn motion to mix. I learned this working at a breakfast place a gazillion years ago. They did look YUMMY!

Just a quick encouragement: if you make your own bread, you can definitely make your own pancakes from scratch. It’s just flour, salt, leavening, milk, butter and a touch of sugar, so barely more than you did with the pancake mix. One less box to have to keep in the pantry!

I need pancakes in my life!! Glad the chicks are doing well. Pasty butt sucks! Only keeping a good eye on them takes care of that. I love doing that part because it allow us to bond with our chickens. We will have 25 to be cut down to six. Happy eating and yay for the chicks doing well.

Those eggs look sooooo good!! One little thing we have learned the hard way.... NEVER crack the eggs directly into the mix.... just in case it is a BAD egg (and these were fresh eggs). We ruined the _whole_ mix... ugg!!! We had to experience this twice and after that we always crack into a tiny clear bowl that we can inspect the color, odor and broken shells, then pour into the mix after the inspection. This has saved us many times! Thanks for sharing!!!
@lilbitatatime37636 жыл бұрын
Tasty breakfast. The syrup looks great. If you boil it longer does the color darken? The chocolate cake 🎂 looks amazing Olivia ~ nice job! 👍 Eggs look good. I add a splash of vinegar to help prevent eggs from cracking and it also helps with making the peeling process a little easier. The brooder setup is working out well. 👍

Livy if you cut up your pancakes before pouring on the maple syrup the pancakes will soak up the syrup better and you will get good taste on each piece, yum-yum, and you should try some maple syrup as a topping on ice-cream double yummy!

Love your chicken brooder set up and plan to build one just like it next year if I find a piece of land to purchase and start my homesteading journey. I hope to buy land that has trees on it too, trees to keep on it, trees to use for wood, and trees to gather sap as you did. Your chicks look so happy and healthy! Pluto is a darling and Figaro is such a character. I can only imagine how delicious your syrup tastes! Olivia did a great job with the pancakes! What a blessing to be able to live and enjoy the dream, the homesteading life! I always enjoy seeing the whole family doing something in the video. Great job sharing how to boil those eggs, Gina! Love me some scrumptious deviled eggs! Yours looked delicious! Don't know if you'd ever try my recipe, but I make mine with fried and crumbled bacon, finely diced onion, some mustard and some Miracle Whip, though you'd probably prefer Mayo. When I serve this, they go so fast! Thank you for sharing and have a very blessed day!

The herb garden is almost ready to go but I've been having issues getting the seedlings. The local garden nursery didn't have any that I wanted. As I 'm not yet working since returning to Australia, I can also only do a few at a time money wise as I'm currently rather poor and seedlings and potting mix is surprisingly expensive. I'll get there though! (once I have them, they'll save money! :)

It looks so delicious and it probably tastes better just knowing it came out of your own trees and efforts. One question though (perhaps it's an American "thing"): you went to all that trouble making the maple syrup from scratch, yet you use pancake mix (basically flour and a couple more ingredients found in most Western kitchens)? How come?

Goooood Mawning Al! So, since we're getting technical with the dingle berry analogy, can I ask you how high above the chick's are you hanging your heat lamp? Is it a 250w red lamp from Coops n More? I'm expecting my delivery today from Coops n More!
@simidhel6 жыл бұрын
Ooh! Video please! :) _(actually I misread that and thought the chicks were arriving!)_
@dennisst.germaine34976 жыл бұрын
Bill~Thanks for asking that question, I've already received my coops & more lighting and need to buy the bulb for the heat lamp, but didn't know what wattage is needed for that brooder. I didn't order the bulb from C n M because of shipping dangers and figured I would just go to Tractor S and get one.
@LumnahAcres6 жыл бұрын
I got the bulb from coopsnmore the light right now is about 12 inches off the ground. But that will depend on the temps of were your brooder is. The best rule of thumb is if the birds are all huddled together they are cold and if they want to near the light it is to low to hot for them
@dennisst.germaine34976 жыл бұрын
Thank you Al.....but what is the wattage?
@littlewhitedory16 жыл бұрын
12" Ok, great. Dennis, I'm thinking that he bulb from c n m will make it here with the rest of the items I bought without major issues. The price was pretty much the same as Home Depot so I just went ahead with it. I opted for the 250w infra bulb but admit that the flat heat emitting bulbs had me wondering about how they might work out? On the other hand I didn't buy the plumbing parts for the bucket used to supply the waterer and plan on exploring those options today at home depot. Just wondering, are you further south than Al, is there a difference in the climate where you are? I'm probably in one of the most unique locations due to my proximity to both the ocean and the bay along the south shore of LI. I picked up a lamp, bulb, waterer, and a turbo feeder the same as Al's setup. I've never raised anything from baby to full grown so this should be interesting for me. I plan on documenting it as best I can on KZbin so keep an eye open for my wacky videos!
