Check out Scar asking Gem, Cub, Bdubs and Etho the ultimate breakfast question: pancakes or waffles, and maple syrup or honey? 🥞🍯 They all confidently chooses maple syrup, much to Scar's disappointment! 😮.
But the discussion only starts there, as it continues with different food and sweeteners!

Maple syrup precludes using your hands, its too runny for toast unless its fork and knife toast (like French toast). As a Canadian, maple syrup is the superior syrup, followed by fruit syrups and then other syrups like generic "pancake" syrup. Honey (I prefer iced honey, which is very creamy) is great for toast or bagels or sandwiches. I'd never put honey on a pancake or waffle unless there was no syrup option, the point is for the runny syrup to soak into and/or fill the pancake/waffle. And for dipping? Rogers golden syrup is the supreme sugary dip. I also use maple syrup in place of other sugars in some foods, like oatmeal. Maple syrup is the GOAT.

Etho is definitely western Canada, probably Alberta. Doesn't narrow it down much, but he's like most of the rest of us in finding some of the eastern Canadian things weird (like bagged milk... and whatever Gem was talking about). He's talked about what wild animals he encounters, (moose broke his fence), which limit which parts of the country are possible. I also have vague memories of broad geographical details from way back that lend towards him being maybe northern Alberta or even Rocky mountains. This contrasts with the other Canadian hermits, with Gem in Newfoundland and Beef (I believe) being in Ontario on his farm.

neither. i eat my pancakes plain, (well i put chocolate chips in them in the first place), and i honestly don’t really like waffles. i don’t hate them, but i don’t really think they’re good either. too much texture and crunch for me. whipped cream is always a good addition to a pancake, but then it’s basically dessert lol. that being said, if i am going to put maple syrup on a pancake, i prefer it to be the fake kind as all i really end up tasting once it’s on a pancake is the sugar anyways, and where i’m at the real stuff gets so expensive that it seems like a waste to me. i do like the real stuff better in general (and i put it on bacon all the time for the ultimate sweet/salty pairing because i feel like the real maple flavour actually comes through paired with bacon so it’s not wasteful). i like honey too, but not so much on pancakes, more so on like a piece of good whole grain toast or on top of nice yogurt. molasses is good though, but it’s not a really sweetener (at least anymore in the age of refined sugars) like maple syrup or honey, it’s just more of a flavouring agent nowadays. molasses is made from the same stuff regular sugar is made of, usually sugar cane (or sugar beet*, but more on that later), but it’s like a way less refined version of typical sugar. you can basically make regular white sugar from molasses by extracting everything that makes it molasses-y. since it’s essentially a barely refined sugar product it used to be very very popular as a sweetener before more refined and neutral tasting options were readily available, but it has greatly fallen out of popularity and now is used (at least in american culture) as more of a flavour for special foods you want to taste a little bit molasses-y, rather than a sugar sweetening product. the stuff that makes brown sugar brown and kinda damp and sticky is molasses, and dark brown sugar has higher molasses content than light brown sugar. brown sugar is like an intermediate step between molasses and regular white sugar, so it’s only a barely to partially refined sugar (at least in a general sense using older manufacturing techniques, nowadays the term refined gets really muddied when talking about processing as it can have several slightly different meanings and nearly any type of processing is counted as ‘refining’, but here i’m using it to mean basically ‘purified’ or isolated in the way white sugar is essentially just chemically pure sucrose with no additional compounds that add flavour or color). that being said, most commercial brown sugar now is made from straight up just taking regular white refined sugar and coating it in a bit of molasses, rather than just evaporating water out of mashed sugar cane juice and crystallizing sugar from that via heating (which is essentially how brown sugar was traditionally and originally made). the traditional process for making brown sugar (and also molasses) is essentially the same process for making real maple syrup, just with different starting ingredients (maple tree sap instead of sugar cane juice). molasses is essentially just less heated/boiled/cooked natural brown sugar. ‘maple’ syrup can also be made out of many other types of tree sap by the same process (boiling the sap and cooking out a lot of the water) such as birch, walnut, beech, and sycamore, but obviously then it isn’t called maple syrup anymore as it’s no longer made from a maple tree, it’s just called [insert-whatever-tree-the-sap-was-extracted-from-here] syrup. molasses can also be used for many different things both edible and inedible. it is to make several different types of alcoholic drinks such as rum and some types of beer, for industrial production of compounds like vinegars and citric acid, soil fertilization, bioremediation, fermentation and yeast production, biofuel, and much more. it can be used as a binder in industrial products and manufacturing to hold things like steel, carbon, and charcoal briquettes together as it works well and burns clean. it also can be added to things like concrete to impact its texture and setting time. *molasses can be made from sugar beets as opposed to sugar cane just as regular white sugar can. within the united states sugar production industry, the split is roughly 50/50 as to whether sugar is produced from sugar cane or sugar beets, though on a worldwide scale most (~75%) of sugar is produced from sugar cane. however, sugar beet molasses is nowhere near as popular (at least for human consumption) as cane sugar molasses, as it is quite bitter and generally has a lower sugar content than its cane sugar counterpart. it is however often used as an additive in animal feeds as a source of additional energy and necessary minerals, as well as the industrial uses listed above. anyways molasses nerd rant over

Seeing BDubs states that molasses doesn't exist to me is just straight up funny, I had to organize so many jars of that thing when I worked at a market. Overall, this clip made me see how different both Americas (anglo and latin) are. I don't think I've ever even seen maple syrup in Brazil, so rare is it. It is not something that is normally sold in the market. The pancakes here also follow a very different recipe. In general, those who can sweeten it with honey, but I would say that if it were a common recipe, most people would love it with molasses (after all, sugarcane is such an important product here that making sugar is prohibited by law) And I personally put chocolate cover. Don't care if it's blasphemous, it's good.
