I think whenever the continent grows enough to have a bigger economy than any single country (Including India and China) then we know we have arrived. That will happen at some point in the latter part of this century (I predict in the 2070s or 80s)

I think this ignores some important limits on maximum city size. Tokyo can have a dense urban population because of massive infrastructure such as water supply and storm and sewage drainage. Some desert cities in Africa, such as Khartoum and Mogadishu, are limited by supply of drinking water and would have to build long aqueducts for such a dense population. It seems more likely that the African urban population of 2100 will have to spread out along major rivers such as the Niger and Congo.

Foreign investment isn't needed. Africa just needs to put up proper financial infrastucture and all of its citizens into the formal economy (i.e allow people to build credit & pay taxes and borrow money) then they'll be able to self fund. Japan built itself using self funding. So did China (sure, there was a little bit of foreign direct investment, but most of it was self funding).

E.g. compare Karachi, a city rising in population and Sydney or Toronto or Vancouver. Tell me which one is better. That is the logical conclusion to draw from global warming that leads to rising sea levels. Canada, Alaska, Russia, Greenland, Scandinavia, Greenland and Antarctica will see enormous grown while rising oceans and temperatures devastate coastal and equatorial regions across the planet. this is only a result according to the natural birth rate of the city. but the truth is you cannot simply use birth rate to find the estimated result like that. birth rate only gives us the lower limit of the population, you need to understand that the Carrying capacity of the city or of the country decide the upper limit population. Well, I don't see any of them have the capacity to hold up over 30million people. of course, if people just flow into the city they can make a 30 or 50 m so we cannot count this. it is different from tokyo or shanghai.

We all know we cant use desert/Beach sand for obvious reason. But there is a thing called "Manufactured sand" which is better than river/natural sand and is more abundant. Manufactured sand is basically crushed granite and granite can be replenished through volcanic eruptions. Furthermore, granite is very abundant all throughout the earth. The only problem is the future demand. With a higher population and ppp, we might see a sand shortage soon, but not today.

No I don't think these cities will ever surpass Mumbai. One scenario is that they will be flooded before that. On top, urbanization is a product of industrialization and these countries are way behind than India on this matter. Personally I don't think Delhi will grow even more. But Mumbai will become legendary. Also jakarta's popualtion is deemed to increase by a freakin lot.

Adding 150 million people to a country seems kinda ridiculous. Another pretty ridiculous thing is that assuming that 1/2 the country will live in a single city which makes no sense. Having your country be so lopsided in terms of population especially in a heterogenous developing country I think is unrealistic. Not to mention the fact that Tanzania can't support it's population with the current food supply, triple that and add some instability. It's going to be a humanitarian disaster.

This is silly. This is just extrapolating current growth projections way into the next century and beyond. This is not what will happen. It is highly unlikely that Kinshasa will get to such an extreme level of population.

Esler! It is very likely that a dozen of African cities will be the most populous by 2100. I predicted this back in 2006! But, Im cautious with any exact figures! But, I believe seriously that cities like Lagos, Kinshasa, Dar es Saalam, Nairobi, Niamey, Addis Ababa, Kampala, Lusaka, Cairo, Bamako, Ouagadougou, and Mogadishu will be the largest, and some Asian cities like Mumbai, Dhaka, Karachi, Kabul, Jakarta, Baghdad, and Lahore will top the list by 2100. The same process of Industralisation and Urbanization toke place first in Europe, than in the Americas both North and South then in Asia and now the same will happen in Africa! Every continent goes trough this process in the history of mankind! Africa alone will have around 4.5 billion by 2100 or 40% of the total population in the world in this time! Asia will have around 4.8 billion, so it follows logically what will happen in the very distant future on the African continent! It would be a nightmare!!

Africa will have well over 4.5 billion (probably 5 billion) people by the turn of the century, so those figures are vastly UNDERESTIMATED. Nigeria will have a Billion people, most of them in Southern Nigeria around. I believe the future Lagos Metropolitan area will easily have 150 million people.

China has plans to make "mega cities", which will be over 100m people. So it is not a natural growth, and maybe defined as a "cluster of cities" - but it does bear some scrutiny in your analysis. They are already building the infrastructure to make this happen, I am seeing it here in Tongzhou (suburb of Beijing) where the new city admin will be moved from CBD Beijing.
