I was randomly thinking about Castle In The Sky, and on a whim, just searched it up on KZbin, and stumbled upon your video while scrolling. And I'm glad I did. This video is really put together, and I can't remember the last time I was this happy to sub to anyone's channel. Cheers.

Same, except I was actually planning on drawing some influence from it for a D&D Adventure! I didnt even add D&D to my search terms so you have no idea the level of joy and surprise I experienced upon seeing this so early in the results!

Same here. Just suddenly was thinking about Castle sky. So I watched it this afternoon and then I remembered how cool the ruins were of the castle and city. The architecture of ruins among green grass and flowerbeds. Went on KZbin to see if anyone else had talked about the meaning of this film. Found your video. Thank you sir! Great work.

The theme is also deepened by the opening credits where the symmetry of development is shown as mankind progresses its technology through flight and eventually into flying cities, but then it's shown that the weather itself pushes back (the cloud) and crashes those cities, with the occupants fleeing and then returning to the simple farming lives they returned to. The subsequent mining and search for Laputa represent a cycle - "all of this has happened before and all of this will happen again", and that's further reinforced as the remnants of the city fly up higher into the sky at the end. Although the ending is abrupt I believe that Patzu and Sheeta go back to gondola together like they promised, but one day someone will find Laputa again or build their own. The past and future cannot be seperated.

This is the loveliest and most compelling evaluation of Laputa I've ever seen. It bypasses the surface-level action to grasp for essential themes, and it both reminds me of why I love this film so much and gifts me a new way of exploring and appreciating it. I came away convinced that you genuinely comprehend and care for Laputa. Thank you so much for sharing!

It was really good to watch! the perspectives you take to analyze the film are very interesting. I was fascinated by the variety of points of view you use to explain different elements of the story, (game culture, references, characters, sociology,...) I learned a lot and I liked the conclusions you drew. I had never understood Castle in the sky in this way and it really makes sense to me. Thank you for your work!

Man, I thought I am ready to put dungeons behind, to move on to new rpg heights. And then a video like this comes along and I realize I am not yet ready. I wish there was a dungeon out there for me to fall in love with, but so far, I didn't find any :( The one from broodmother skyfortress may be the best, and coincidentally is similar to Laputa :)

If you haven't yet, I recommend reading the manga version of Nausicaa and the Valley of the Wind. I am pretty sure both stories are in the same world and that Laputa was built to escape the sea of corruption. There are some interesting parallels with ceramic technology, and the clothing of the people (Patzu's journal showed people wearing similar clothing to Nausicaa's people).
@roy.shqipe
@roy.shqipe 4 ай бұрын
@@marissajohnson1684 true i noticed that too. The people from the valley of the wind have similar clothing to patzu's journal showed people. And the yellow fox that plays with the robot on laputa is literlly the same as the one yellow fox that stays with nausicaa during the whole movie.

I really like your analysis on each character and how the music is tied to each of their ambitions. Watching the movie you totally get the vibe that muska will do anything and throw away any life to get what he wants, but I never really thought about how he discards the only companions he has through the whole film, I really liked how you put that into words it’s a really good point

Next dungeon? Maybe something that messes with scale, like Jack and the Beanstalk or the BFG. The map starts as a house in a landscape and ends with a house as a landscape.

This is incredible. And I appreciate the choice of music used throughout, I’ve always seen the Team ICO games as very Ghibli inspired, but no Official Studio Ghibli movie has made me feel that more than Castle in the Sky. I can’t help but feel the scene with Sheeta and Muska in the ancient throne room directly inspired the confrontation between Ico and The Queen (Sheeta loses her pigtails just as Ico loses his horns, both as a consequence of standing up against an adult with immense power). It’s a great pick for dungeon delving.

That was neat! Art timelapses are powerful. They catch thought. I like your root systems and hope you liked making this, that you keep scribblestorming through some essays and that you want to. Other dungeons? I feel like a little punk, but Manifold Garden. Would be neat to see a map, like a map of your memories of it, or. There was a meme a while back about ppl live-sketching dark souls maps from memory, and i thought i'd like to see that but for other games and shows and such. What do people remember, and when they put all the memories together, where do they put that memory? Or the events of Obra Dinn. How the Sequence of the events can't matter so much as the People in each, how the narrative is in who showed up, not how they did. A map of nodes to events needing sensitive sensemakers. Ooo, dot hack does a narrative that's more People-first, Outcome-last like that. So it's a map of nodes connecting conversations, how the relationship was able to build and to be and be community. lol i just read through all that and it sounds like the dungeon i'd like to see is a visual novel so nvm i guess. disco elysium? idk. good video. I thought.

Wow just wow. It was kinda deep and, especially for me tho. Discover, Accepting your past and then letting things go just to continue better or easier, finding purpose in better things so on. It was mind blowing to see it from this angle. Now I know why I loved this movie, thats the exact thing I always wanted from my life. (Sorry I am bad at english) Overall a great video!! Thank you.

Neat video!! I know this might be hard to believe, but Muska is only twice Sheeta’s age, not four, though the anime makes him look wayy older than he is (he’s 28-33, and Sheeta is 13-15) But I also question his age, because how tf does he know so much about Laputa?? It’s almost like he was there before...

You should definitely read Dengeon Meshi manga if you love dungeons and you want a story that uses dungeons to explore the much deeper existential aspects of humanity. It starts of this show that's about eating dungeon monsters and then it goes absolutes wild and indepth with expllring the very act of consumption & desires.
