Casualties counts as deaths and people put out of action with getting injured for life like maimed or losing limbs or dying days-weeks later after a wound. But it’s still crazy as it states over 3 million died from this war but many are probably died of the black death at that time and it will count as death in war.

For England there would be more than a century between their defeat in the 100 years war and their first colony (outside of Ireland). Whay I find most interesting is how the english+local allies(this was also a french vs french war) consistently suffered fewer deaths than the french. You'd think that after a couple of decades someone in France would say 'how about we don't lose 3 for every one they lose'.
@lecrabesavant44353 ай бұрын
no the death are not only soldiers, so since France suffered a lot more from the black death and fought other major power (like Burgundy) so I think it's normal that they suffered more, since the war was also in France

You seem to forgot that England population is like 4 time smaller than France so in % English have more casualities.
@Kaertan353 ай бұрын
This is nonsense. In reality, historians are completely ignorant of the real number of victims.

Civilians killed in raids also count as casualties (and are the vast majority of those 2 millions)

@Bracus.Reghusk A lot of the English army probably came from France though so keep that in mind

These casualties numbers seems far too high. I would say 200,000 max including both size for all the war.

How are the losses counted? I'm having a hard time understanding how France suffered 2 million losses and the UK a million.

It didnt, nobody counted anything. 116 years is so long that everyone who started it eventually died. Plagues didnt help also

England adopted a tactic (can't remember exact name) where they would essentially burn everything so that France wouldn't have food and manpower they scorched hundreds of farms

a few mistakes despite an awesome job. The entirety of Dauphiné becomes French as of 1349 and not only current Drôme. Also, Poitiers is only retaken by the French in 1372 and 23kms South of Poitiers is Gençay that is retaken by the French in 1375. The English lose grip on Poitou much slower than shown here. Amongst other minor mistakes.....
