dude instead of deleting the partitions individually, u could have just opened diskpart selected disk 3 and cleaned the entire disk. then you could have created the partition way more easily. otherwise, great video :)
@Maraksot786 жыл бұрын
I actually learned about the "clean" command shortly after posting this video. You're right it is much easier to be able to remove all the partitions simultaneously if that's what you're wanting to do... which is what I wanted to do in this video. I've pinned your comment so hopefully people will see our conversation here and learn that rather than selecting and deleting each partition individually if they want to remove them all simultaneously they can simply select their disk and then type "clean" and hit enter and be done.

@@deletedelete2016 I would use diskpart like I show in the video. Rather than doing like I did in the video and typing delete partition override you can instead select the disk you want and then just type clean and it will remove all the partitions on the drive simultaneously.

@@Maraksot78 My apologies, already saw the whole video, I was at work doing half job haha so I couldn't see the video completely. Gonna make the exact same thing using diskpart in a few hours because I made a huge mistake: full hard drive format from Disk Management :( Should I let it run until is done or pull the hard drive off like a real man? This worked like a charm! Got rid of those recovery partitions and now have a new storage drive. I would like to add that you can use a spare sata and power cable on your desktop to perform these tasks. That is what I did. Thank you very much for keeping the steps simple to follow.

You made it very easy. I followed along as you explained the how-tos and paused when needed. I did this for my wife using our Windows laptop so she'd have additional storage for her Chromebook. The one I did for my Mac was easy: I just reformatted it and now it's the Time Machine backup.

very straight forwards and almost exactly what I needed. I ended up doing DISKPART a bit different by using the clean function on the entire thing since I didn't need to worry about any files on it. But overall super glad to have such a straightforwards and well explained tutorial available

At first I was not able to delete the partitions on my former Macbook Pro HDD with the right click method on Disk Management, but after that I tried it with diskpart it worked like magic. Mine went totally different. When i opened disk management and let the wizard do its thing it asked me basically if i wanted to convert my basic disk into a dynamic disk, so i got scared and said no. Then i went into diskpart and deleted one partition with no problem, but the final active partition (O/S or partition3) won't delete. "the arguments specified for this command are not valid." Solved: I had to manually delete the partition called O/S, through disk management. Diskpart could only delete the OM partition. I didn't agree to making it dynamic at any point. Once O/S deleted i got one large empty partition like you had. Thank you for this video, i couldn't have don't it without you.

@Maraksot787 жыл бұрын
+Common Man's Combatives yes, you can turn a 3.5" drive (typical destop drive) into an external drive however they require more power than a 2.5" laptop drive to operate so the USB cable alone doesn't provide enough power. The enclosure for one is of course bigger and then requires a power cable to be plugged into it along with the USB cable. But all the other stuff I show in this video about deleting partitions and formatting the drive works the same.
@dazzthepatriot83897 жыл бұрын
Maraksot78 Thanks. I ordered the enclosure but I wasn't sure if the partitions part was the same. Thanks again. Now I have two places to store all my important data. 👍

Hi. I have just replaced an internal 3TB drive with a SSD. Just tried to used a Sata Adaptor but it does not register when connected with USB. You said the Sata adaptor is suitable for small powered SSD ( laptop ) so I am assuming the problem is a lack of power for the 3TB. How can I resolve this problem? I just want to clean and format the drive before selling. I am not an expert - DIY. Thank you.

from what I can understand, you can just use it as is with out deleting the particians, or is this prosses needed for the drive to act as an external? I dont really see the reason to remove the alocated areas unless there is a reason
@Maraksot785 жыл бұрын
You are correct. You don't need to remove the partitions if you don't want to. If you don't delete anything from the drive then you can still access all your files as they were on your computer before you removed the drive. All the file structure from before will remain in tact. In this video I just wanted to clear this drive off completely and start fresh so I showed how to do that.
