Marantz 2252b review test

I got this beautiful Marantz 2252B from Craigs List back in the 90's. I fell in love with it from the firs day I hooked it up. To make it more beautiful I put it in a smooth and stain finished wood case I bought from a guy on Craigs List. Two months ago I put it in auction on ebay, but pulled it back out from auction with two days left to end the bidding, and I could say one of the best decision I made in my life, and I am very glad I did it. Presently she's back on the rack with my other vintage equips, Ashly GQX 3102, DBX 3BX, BBE 462, Carver C-9, Dahlquist DQ-10, and OPPO 981HD.

i kept the 2238b. I think the 2252b and the 2238b sound about the same. the 2252 is more beautiful because of the lightning. Of course more power. It is also about 50% more expensive and rare. I only sold the 2252b because it had a fault in the tuner and I didn't want to make the extra repair costs. Wise decision to keep it

I had the Marantz 2252B back in the late 1970's. I paired it with a Technics SL1600 turntable and a pair of Bose 501's.

The 2252B is a nice component. It's classy and has that industrial look about it. I got one used from a friend several years ago. It had lamps out and a short. I gave my friend $30 (he needed the dough) and paid $80 for restoration. I've used one for a year and a half. At a total cost to me of $110. It's got triple tone controls independent for each channel.Two way dubbing. Can handle three decks and two turntables, pre out/ main in or visa-versa so you can use it as a pre-amp alone. Two nice large tuning meters and reserve power of about 100 wpc in 4 ohms and 70 wpc into 8 ohms. Gotta tell ya though, I can't warm up to this receiver (no pun intended). First when it's on for several hours it gets HOT. You could fry eggs on the thing, not conducive to long amp life. Wasn't pleased with FM performance either. It has a WARM sound, kinda mellows out the music. Who knows, some folks might like that. I prefer a more CLINICAL sound. I want to hear everything, good or bad. My Hitachi SR-804 out performs the 2252B hands down. After powered up for six hours, the top is barely warm! It has an exceptional FM front end for its price and seems to match the 2252B in volume capabilities. I know I'm gonna piss off some Marantz fans but it's true. I guess to each his/her own. Still, I'll stick with the SR- 804. I have used my SR- 804 since 1979, (when purchased) so I might have a jaded opinion. It's only had lamps replaced and no other service. If you're a Marantz fan God bless and enjoy your 2252B. It just didn't click for me.

I had a 2252b which I sold, an awesome sounding receiver. I replaced it with a 2285 which is on another level. These receivers are so rare now and costly, especially here in England..

I liked the 2252b but you can't beat the gorgeous back lit aqua blue tuner dial of the earlier models. I found the 2252 both sweet but bit analytical which was characteristic of Japanese amps made in the late 70s vs the early and mid seventies which tended to be warmer and more liquid.

The leaking cap you point out is actually glue. It would not work at all if the cap had lost that much electrolyte

the sound is different mainly because the 2250 (2238/1070... the older ones) use on the output stage some BJT transistor (bipolar junction transistor) which add a bit off coloration (more like a tube sound) and the 2226/2252 had some FET or MOSFET (sorry i'm not a very good electronician ;) ) field effect transistor. That change the sound off course!

Sorry!,the 2238 had some fet or mosfet. they had switches to this technology in 77/78 and the look also,from black and "aluminium" to full aluminium for the front face.

Why when you are doing the demo the equipment function like I am the one operating it. Hate to say it but comparing you from the other reviewer... they sound unatural that is why I cannot rely on their demonstration. Thanks!!!

+Jason Bolkenstijn geduld hebben, ze komen regelmatig(paar keer per jaar) langs op marktplaats. Dit is een hobby waar je geduld mee moet hebben. Sommige dingen jaag ik al 3 jaar op maar er komt een dag dat ze opeens op marktplaats staan.
