If you use a spray bottle of vinegar to spritz your piece as you go it'll make the wrinkles iron out with one pass. Also makes corners and edges really sharp. It won't smell like vinegar for more than a few minutes. Also linen irons smoother if you iron it damp. Wash, let it hang til it's almost dry and iron. My grandmother taught me to iron, she supported her family ironing.

I love sondeflor, but their sizing is SO much smaller than average waist measurements. I'm a 2x for skirts pretty much anywhere I go, but the sondeflor 2x measurements are about 8 inches smaller than average. I don't mind "sizing up", but even their 4x is still way undersized, and there's currently only one skirt that's even offered in 4x. But you need to have a waist that's around 37" -- for 4x! I really wish they would offer more inclusive sizing. They'd get my money in a heartbeat. Until then, I'll keep trying to get better at sewing my own skirts with quality fabrics.

I also believe in reusable clothing. I look through local thrift stores for cottons, linens, silks and wools to up cycle and make new things. Fabric stores are so expensive but I find great value in used items that are of quality fabrics at a fraction of the cost. It feels great knowing these items will be well loved & used. 💖

@mortariana Go up to the average person on the street and ask them two questions. "Do you know how to embroider?" "How many people do you personally know that can embroider?" Though it is gaining popularity, thanks to the _______core trends, it is still very much a niche thing. I hope it continues to grow to the point where just about everyone and their sister can do it. Same goes for sewing, canning, raising and growing as much of your own food as possible, homeschooling, fixing things, etc.

Wasn't it adorable, seeing her hand the pins one by one? Also the kitties "helping" - so cute! I'm afraid my 2 kitties are banned from my studio lol! Handmade heirloom stuff is the BEST. I'm really into recycling/upcycling and it's a joy to turn someone else's rubbish into a beautiful art piece, whether clothing, bags (my new venture!) or hand-made books and mixed media (what I do mostly). We need to keep the old skills like embroidery going and not let them die.

I love how pleased you are with you make. It’s so beautiful and you’re really showing off the joy of making things just for yourself that will last, and that you can be proud of. About Son de Flor, I think it’s important to note that that is what clothes really cost when things are made well and workers are compensated honestly. The fast fashion brands cheat the workers all along the way from those harvesting raw materials to the garment workers. And we have such a distorted understanding now of how much clothes should cost. I love Hayley Marie’s cost breakdowns cause they show what the work of sewing costs - and of course it would be less if it were a factory- even a union one- than a personal seamstress but that’s all good to remember when we save up for or sit down to sew pieces we cherish.

@@cecilyerker In the UK, for centuries men wore working smocks made from linen - not just protective (the pleated smocking made them more waterproof too) but the style of embroidery would distinguish the trades from one another - e.g. shepherds would have different patterns from ploughmen.

The apron turned out so cute😍 and the timing is perfect, I just bought 2 meters of linnen for an apron, and the embroidery is such a good idea! Tip for anyone working with linnen: iron the cr*p out of the linnen super hot with steam to set the antie wrinkle stuff in the fabric, then wash it hot and iron it again super hot, before it's completely dry. Now your linnen wil wrinkel a lot les 😊

The timing of this is so funny; I have been making some chemise and decided to use left over linen to make an apron. And in the process of making it, I decided to embroider some flowers onto the pockets. It's still in progress, but makes me happy each time I look at it. The embroidery didn't take very long as I kept it very simple and just traced a rose lineart from the internet. I love that I could colour match to one of my dresses that doesn't have pockets, but it will go well with any of my other clothes in general.

One of my problems is our cats (4) think it is necessary to pull the pins out of my projects, chew on my measuring tapes, and drag cut materials on to the floor. Love the embroidery! Also, your toddler is so calm...mine would unravel all my threads and try to grab the needles if I embroidered in front of him 😂

I love this!!! You are so inspiring. Love your fashion and sewing videos. Also, many years from now, your children can watch you making this as they wear it themselves. Precious treasure.

Thank you so much for making this video! Not only for the culturing on Shein but I love your apron and it’s not made for a skinny girl! (I can fit the smallest size in plus or the higher end of “normal” & Im 6”2 just to make things more difficult 😂). Clothes have never fit properly so Im taking up sewing to make my dream wardrobe. Because Im so new to sewing I keep stressing about needing the exact correct measurements(with seam allowance) for my apron pieces. But your tutorial has helped me stop stressing and given me the confidence I can do this. Thank you for your hard work! 😊💖

I live in Australia as well and have really struggled this winter. It’s the DARKNESS I greatly dislike so I’ve decided to say bring on the sunshine even though I am having a baby in December 😆

Fighting the blackberry bramble is an August ritual here. I am really considering branching out to some of the newer thornless varieties because my forearms look like I was mauled by an intrigue of kittens.

Awesome apron! Lovely embroidery detail! I keep wanting to do embroidery but never have good luck with it(not satisfied with the outcome). I also have a problem with resting when I get sick. Usually I’m very sick for 1 day then feel better but if I don’t take it easy and rest another 2 days I immediately get sick again. And it’s hard to take that needed rest with so much needing done x.x

I love this, I have lots and lots of trouble making a garment that actually fits me. I always add 10-15 inches and make everything gigantic on me. I've always had trouble making anything for myself that actually fits. So watching this and not looking at the numbers, rather how it looks in the mirror is great!

The embroidery really 'elevates' this piece, as the 'fashion KZbinrs' would say. It takes it from wellmade, but plain to pretty and almost dresslike. A real eyecatcher. Well worth the effort 👏👏👏
