Such a cute pattern. I want to share a few things I find helpful when making gathers in case you have novice sewers out there. One is to sew two rows of gathering stitches instead of just one. Not only is it helpful to already have that “bonus” thread if one breaks, but I find it is easier to pull two threads than just one. The second tip is to be sure to pull the bobbin thread as you gather. It seems to be a bit looser, therefore it pulls more easily. I usually pull on one end of the thread until I get to the middle, then I pull on the other end until it meets where the first one stops. Happy sewing, everyone!

I love this so much! I am the proud owner of a beautiful vintage and/or handmade apron collection and now I'm going to make a ton of my own! Lol. I have a feeling that everyone that I know will be gifted handmade aprons this year. Lol.

Thank you so much for explaining the crossover straps! I've always wanted an apron where the straps cross over at the back but I've never actually known how to do it. Mum has promised me we'll make me a cute apron once her sewing stuff is set up (she recently moved house). I'd do it by myself...but the last time I touched a sewing machine it was 20 years ago in school and I was distinctly in the not-gifted student category :(

I did it! I made not one but two very cute aprons, using an old black tablecloth with scalloped edges (very handy for making a fancy bottom edge with zero effort, lol). I made them during the latest Melb lockdown for my daughter and I, as a little project while she was home schooling. She said it was boring because she's 6 and I couldn't let her use the sewing machine, but she's very pleased with the end result. She also thinks you're very pretty, Sage, and clever at making things. Thanks for this tutorial, it was like riding a bicycle as I haven't sewn with a machine since high school, but I remembered a lot along the way (particularly how bad I am at sewing a waistband!) Might try my hand at pants next, from your other tutorial :)

Really Enjoyed watching U design & create/make this Apron!!! It's Cute, although I think I prefer the two (pink & blue) that U showed at the beginning of your video... This was Great, as I recently bought several cheap Aprons & several Vintage Apron patterns, in order to create Vintage Style Aprons out of very plain, no frills, modern things... I love the Ruffles!!! As, sadly, I haven't a body form /mannequin to put the Apron on, your trying on the Aprons helped me decide how I'd like mine to look. I haven't done any sewing in quite a few years, so this is "dipping my toes in the water" to see whether it'll get me back to it, or whether I'll simply leave the sewing to others & just shop for bargains. Thx again for the Wonderful Video!!! Really Appreciate it!!! ♡♡♡♡

You don’t need a sewing machine. I make most of my own clothes using a hand sewing kit packed in a mason jar.
@claremiller99793 жыл бұрын
It just takes longer without one but it's definitely doable! Depending on how fast you can hand sew it might take you a week or two of dedicated evenings. Watch TV or listen to podcasts (or Sage videos!) is my recommendation, I'm always sewing up holes in my kids clothes and socks which can't be done with a machine anyway, and that's what I do.
@Authorisabellekooreman3 жыл бұрын
I totally agree with both of you that it can be done. I always do it for little things but when it comes to a really big project I just would prefer a sewing machine. I can never get it looking quite good enough when I do a big project by hand. Big props to you for getting it down though!

I suggest always making at least two gathering lines, and three makes it even less likely that you'll accidentally catch something you didn't want to sew. Then one you've sewn it all, just remove the third row of gathering.
