Have you ever wondered when the best month to thrift is? Well... it might be July. Just sayin'.
Hi friends! Today I'm sharing everything I thrifted in July -- it's a LOT, but I don't go thrifting nearly as much as I used to, and don't plan to go again for a while. I found SO many vintage housewares, and best of all got to spend a whole day with ‪@StephanieCanada‬ and ‪@HaleyMarieVintage‬ poking around and thrifting and it was THE best.
Don't forget to pop over to their channels to watch their videos:
Haley: • Amazing vintage thrift...
Stephanie: • I let AI pick what we ...
What was your favorite thing I found?
With Love,
Kristina

I do love a thrift haul - can never have too many of those. I'm a Brit, and American thrifting fascinates me. Both because everything is on so much of a larger scale - bigger shops, a bigger thrifting culture in general, it seems - and because quite a lot of the items, both vintage and contemporary, are so different from UK material culture. Also - your hair is looking particularly nice 😊

That coffee pot is a real find. I have one like yours (that needs to be re-tinned inside) and a much older version from 1939. They make excellent coffee, and the one you have has a built-in filter. My older one uses cloth filters. They're chrome-plated cast copper, and today would cost a lot of money to produce. If the power cord is in good shape, I encourage you to use it. The coffee is as full-bodied as French press but without the sludge.

Heck yeah, I'm here for it! My grandmother had cocktail plates shaped like palm leaves with the cup holders, which she replaced with cocktail plates shaped like pineapples in celebration of Hawaii becoming a state, but she kept the palm leaf ones for when family from Florida came up to New York for Christmas because she thought it was a thoughtful nod to their home state and sunshine, while usually being whipped by freezing, biting wind. And she always served orange juice on Christmas morning, in Flintstones jelly jars. Idk why, but it was a family thing to have juice in those cups when my mom and her siblings were kids, so she kept them just for them to have juice in on Christmas morning. ❤

😂 You'd love my grandmother's marginalia of "this tastes awful! Do not make. Do not remove this page" because the back of the page had a recipe labeled "pretty good for church suppers."

Tip on stopping bacteria growth that can make you sick when washing dishes with dish sponges, dish rags or wands. In a food saver container with a lid. We use glass ones with the 4 flip down locks on the plastic lid. Get one that is at least 3 or 4 inches deep. Plastic will work but will degrade over time. The degraded plastic will not stick on dishes being washed. In the container put 1 tablespoon of dish liquid, we use dawn as it breaks down grease in the sponges. Add 1 tablespoon of bleach that can also be used to purify water so that it is better for you and the environment. Then fill halfway with water. Put in your dishwasher implements that fit and close the lid. Will last a week. Be sure to rinse out your dishwasher implements before returning to the food saver container. For bottle wands get a vase that the bottle want will fit in. We use a glass one from the dollar tree. 1 tablespoon of dish liquid and bleach with enough water to cover the part that is used to clean bottles and glasses. Also lasts a week. I have a dishpan and a double sink. I put 1 tablespoon of bleach and dish liquid in my distance on the counter next to the sink. I wash until the sink is full then go clean the dining table while the bleach and soap still on them kill any bacteria before rinsing in hot water. My grandmother did this. Her mother and grandmother did this. My great great grandmother did this during the terrible cholera outbreak in the 1700s in London. My great grandmother and grandmother did it during the cholera outbreaks in the 1800s. The same is known to kill a lot of viruses and bacteria. Microwaving does not kill all virus and bacteria My great great grandmother passed down through the generations on my fathers side. My mother who is from Korea and was an orphan during the Korean occupation and a young woman during the Korean War. She also did this and was taught this while being a nurse.

You look so beautiful in blue! Absolutely love that dress! You found so many lovely things! Some of which I own, passed down from great grandmother, grandmother and mother! I have the vintage glass fan plates and matching cups, that were my great grandmother’s. I have the grape dish. The patchwork quilt book & The Learn to sew booklet! The rain jacket reminded me of my grandmothers and mom as they always carried those around with them for emergencies in the Pacific NW! So cool you found the wedding book from Seattle! All my family was born and raised in Seattle! Excited to see what you make with all the patterns and fabrics!

Do you know about Elizabeth Hawes? She was a fashion designer, union supporter, feminist, and civil rights activists. She got up to all sorts of good trouble. Her most famous book was Fashion is Spinach. During WW2, she published a book called Why Women Cry which was a warning to men that there would be no going back from the strength and independence women experienced during wartime home front life. Her clothing designs were gorgeous. Also, when you showed your Mademoiselle magazine, it reminded me to recommend a book to you. If you haven't read Barbizon: The Hotel that Set Women Free by Paulina Bren, please get a copy and try to grab pages as you can while rocking the baby. You will LOVE it.

The tablecloths...soak real good in Woolite, leave out in sun 5-7 days, it will bleach out the toughest stains. I recovered a crochet thread coverlet that way, badly stained with nicotine and spills. Looked brand new.

Since the Lace is (most likely) Polyester based it will be very hard to soften it. Since Poly is not affected by a fabric conditioner except to take out static. Heat on the other hand does help temporarily. But you have to be extra careful as to how much and for how long. Try the Dryer test first, toss it in the dryer for 10 min. then wear it immediately. If it is soft enough to wear then you know that heat helps, But your idea of wearing a camisole under it is the best solution. OR the harder solution is to sew a lining. Your haul was great, I'm sure you will totally enjoy every treasure both found and given.

Kristina, I only discovered your channel about five or six months ago, but now that I am laid up for a couple of weeks, I have been binge-watching all the older videos you have on KZbin. ;There is absolutely nothing wrong with any of your videos. Don't the the trolls get to you. They either think its their job in life to correct/criticize all videos or they just have nothing better to do. Your channel is fine and all your videos are good. You seem highly intelligent to me, and your kids are all amazingly sweet. So does your hubby seem. You are an inspiration to me, especially in the accessories department. I think you have done an amazing job with your home, both decorating and keeping it clean. A little clutter does not mean your home is dirty. My mother-in-law used to say that there is "Messy-clean" which means your home is basically clean but gets messy . that is because you are busy living life, which you obviously are. Messy-dirty on the other hand, is a home that is a mess and hasn't

Hi there Kristina. A few sewing suggestions which you may treat as FYI. > Lick your finger and rub the back of the eye of the needle with it; covalent bonding attracts the thread and helps to guide it thru the eye. > finish dress/ skirt hems with a few curtain weights to avoid a sudden gust of wind being able to embarrass you. 😳 The wind can still pick up the hem, but not high enough to cause a blush to the cheek.😉

Omg that blue dress is GORGEOUS!!! You look stunning! I am a new subscriber and have been binging on your videos. You make me feel so good and relaxed. I love how real you are and how comfortable you are in your skin and style. Besides being gorgeous and delightful and funny, you are an old soul. I’m so glad I found you. I’m 64, retired for 3 years. I thought when I retired my house would finally be immaculate. Yea…..NO! But you know what, my home is “clean enough to be healthy and dirty enough to be happy”. Don’t let the trolls even take up any of your energy. Shame on them. When someone judges another my first thought is, hmm…what are you trying to deny in your life. No one has a right to judge someone else based on their own values. I don’t know why such people watch . If they don’t agree or like your lifestyle, change the channel. OMG!!! People need to get a life. I’m so grateful for channels like you and Farmhouse on Boon and Pioneer Home etc. You are all so inspiring, normal and down to earth. Life isn’t perfect, dust is patient, children grow too fast, enjoy every moment you can with them. There’s plenty of time to clean. Children won’t remember how clean or dirty their home was growing up, they remember the love and time spent playing and enjoying life with them. My boys are in their 40s. When they were young, I was left to be a single mom through divorce and an uninvolved ex both in life with our kids or any financial support. Lots of families were going to Disney etc. I felt terrible that I couldn’t do that or any other fancy vacation for my kids. When we were talking one day, fairly recently, I asked what their favorite memory was of growing up. They had a great life with me alone and then with my second husband and older siblings we inherited with our blended family. Their favorite memory was of the three of us, cuddled underneath a big puffy blanket, watching videos on a Friday night when VCRs first came out eating homemade pizza (crust, sauce and cheese) My mouth dropped open. I asked if they knew why we were cuddled under a big puffy blanket and homemade pizza? They said “because it was fun”. Well that too, but it was because I had to conserve heat in order to pay the bills and I couldn’t afford to buy pizza and it helped me make the grocery budget stretch. They were stunned. They had no idea how much I struggled. They just know life was happy and fun with lots of love and time together. Present day I am an avid quilter and there is a saying between quilters and other sewers. “ A clean house, is a sign of a broken sewing machine” and “ people with immaculate homes are boring people”. LOL. Keep being you, you are fabulous! To those trolls….”If you can’t say something nice, don’t say anything.” I’m so glad I found your channel. ❤️❤️

Those fascinators you are calling hats are easy to make with the right fabric and modpodge to glue down the hemmed edges to a heavy enough cardboard piece that can be formed. Made those type of things for a school play before. You can find pictures of vintage ones and make replicas but in fabrics that match a special dress. Some you do not need cardboard to form. Get a Styrofoam or other head form usually used for wigs and cover with plastic wrap and use a mesh fabric saturated with the clear drying modpdge and shape the base on the head form. There are patterns for. Itake fascinators and hats. There is even a youtube on making one.

I'm a new subbie and I love vintage and vintage hauls! I have a complete Desert Rose set of Franciscan Ware that I inherited from my grandmother. It is in beautiful shape except for the tea cups that were chipped from her daily use. ❤
