Children grow up once. Housework will always be there. They aren’t going to remember how sterile your home is but the love expressed there.
@robinjalkanen32852 жыл бұрын
I absolutely love your honesty and transparency. Raising your Littles has to come first. There will be time enough for a 'perfectly appointed' home later. When your kids are grown, they will care WAY more about the atmosphere of love in your home than whether or not the socks were always paired or whether a freshly- washed stack of washcloths was waiting in the linen closet. God's grace is poured out in the mandane, the drudgery, the 'every day'. There is beauty in the little things we DO accomplish in each day.

I was a stay at home mom with six children. We didn’t have a lot of extra money for vacations and such, but we stayed busy with Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, and home-school community field trips and sports. My mom was home and I have such fond memories of her taking care of us, and our home. She started working when we were teens. I understand when a mother has to work and there is no judgment there. I was a single mom with three children and had to work, but I hated having to leave them with strangers and not know if they are being treated well. When I remarried we were both on the same page and I stayed home with our children and it was not easy, but I loved that I was there for them just like my mom was for us.

I agree that you should do what makes you feel confident and beautiful. A partner who loves you will support that even if it isn’t his/her favorite. I changed my style relatively later in life (I was in my late 40’s) to vintage and my husband and I talked a lot about how he would answer the question if he liked it or not (and he was asked). His response was “Is she happy? Yes she is so I am happy and I think she is beautiful and looks beautiful.” And that was the end of it in his opinion:-). His support was huge for my confidence in making such a big change in style. (PS, I will say he also isn’t a huge fan of the high waist/wide leg 40’s pants I adore…I wear them anyway😁).

Sounds like how I grew up. Grew up out in the country and had a few animals. It wasn’t until I was in junior high that we started a small cow-calf operation, but my dad worked for AT&T Long Lines (the division that actually provided the long distance phone lines for the country) and Mom was mostly a homemaker. After I started school she began to work, first offering a daycare at our church and then later, she did painting and wallpapering. She did that until well into her ‘60s. Now she and Dad just live on the farm. She volunteers at the hospital gift shop one day a week, and Dad putters. He’s happiest when he’s outside doing things and really suffers from SAD in the winter.

Thank you for giving us this long Q&A! I like these chatty/personal videos. It makes me feel like I am getting to know you. I have ADHD, too, and have a hard time keeping up with my house. Something that's really helped me that my therapist suggested and might help you, is having a whiteboard with all the tasks that need doing. I break it down by daily, weekly, monthly, 3-6 months. When I do one of the things on the list, I put a checkmark next to it and that's it! I don't assign a day/time or anything like that. I find having it structured but not -too- structured to be the sweet spot. I am amazed at myself because I've finally found a system that works for me and that I have stuck with consistently for a few months now. It makes cleaning so much less overwhelming and honestly, I find that my house stays cleaner this way and it's nice because depending on how busy I am or how I'm feeling physically and mentally, I can pick one thing and get it done and it still feels like I accomplished something and I don't feel guilty.

KZbin just brought you to me today, and I’ve already watched three of your videos and have subscribed. I love how you are just a real person with real struggles and small victories along the way, and you’re not trying to show that you’re something other than what you are. I love your honesty, and you’re such a breath of fresh air! As a baby boomer, I had a mom who seemed to be able to do it all, with 3 kids (& an outside job once we all were in school). That’s been so hard to try to live up to. And then, in my mid-60s, depression and previously-undiagnosed ADHD & anxiety have come full bloom. I have had to learn how to do life all over again. This time, though, with help from friends & family and videos from people like Cass, at Clutterbug, and others, I am learning what works for me. My husband has been so supportive & helpful as well. He helped me when I felt I was at the end of my rope and couldn’t function well anymore. This year I will turn 70, and I think I’m finally getting things together. I never gave up, though the past 20 years have felt like slogging through thick mud. Perseverance is finally paying off. I didn’t mean to be long & rambling. I just wanted to say I really admire you, and good for you for being you!!

You definitely know what matters most in life-keeping yourself happy and taking care of your family while doing that. I was born in the 40s and love vintage everything. That was such an innocent and classy time and think you have captured the best of it. I just watched your video about the lime souffle salad-what a weird dish. There are some good recipes from then but obviously not that one. I have eaten the tomato soup cake and it is really just like a spice cake-pretty good. I love the fact that you don't spend all your time cleaning. My theory is it's better to wait 'til you can see a difference before cleaning, there are so many more important and fun things to do with your life.

I have only seen a couple of your videos, so this one was so very helpful to get to know you. I like your attitude about your books and how you handle rejection from publishers. You have a very positive approach. I agree with you to set it aside and move on. I hope you continue to find publishers who will give you feedback. I don't remember if you have people to read them and give you feedback, but that might be helpful before or after you submit to the publisher. I compare that to quilters who write patterns and they have pattern testers. In spite of your ADHD, you seem very focused. I hope you can keep bad comments in perspective. I am always amazed at how many people in the world seem to spend their time criticizing others. I assume that most of them are people who don't actually have a blog/video of their own and they have appointed themselves as editors! LOL I am sure that the percentage of negative comments is very low in comparison to the positive ones. I know you have had your baby by now, but like I said, I recently found your videos. Your curtain rods are perfect for you and your family!! We didn't have KZbin in the 50's either, so hahahaha they can get over it!!!

I love love your videos and this one is probably my favourite so far. I just wanted to ask (and this is definitely not a criticism, more of a request) I watch your videos at night and I was wo during if you'd consider making the musical sub points the same volume as your talking? My husband especially would be extremely grateful 😁 there seems to be quite a difference in volume. 🙏🙏🙏

Just going by the title and haven't watched yet, my guess would be if hubby didn't like your style he wouldn't have married you. I bet you like his style too. ☺ I love your kitty! Wish I could say my kitties love your kitty. But kitties are jealous little things, aren't they? Mine are napping and missed their chance to get catty with the cat on the computer. 😂

Congrats on 18k! A q&a is a great way to celebrate!! I forget to ask a ?, maybe you can answer here? What are your children's names and how did you decide on them?
@WithLoveKristina2 жыл бұрын
I love this question! Their names are Asa, Evangeline, Irene, and Freya 🥰 all of their full names have special meanings, but mostly we just chose them because we like older or unusual names. Asa is my husband’s middle name; Evangeline means good news (we hoped for a girl next); Irene is the name of the heroine in one of my husband’s favorite childhood books; Freya’s full name means Lady of the Evening star and is a reference to Lord of the Rings.

@@WithLoveKristina I love all those names! I like original and unusual names. I don't have any children but Maeve has always stuck with me for a little girl. And for a boy Felix. Just ideas for the little bun lol!!

Doing different decades cleaning videos would be awesome to see. I loved the idea of doing cleaning routines from all the books you have. You mentions that in a video I just watched.
