Would have loved more information on the majestic white and grey/black turkeys. I’ve never seen them before. We used to have a lot of turkeys here in northern NY but recently there has been a crash in the wild populations. I hope they can recover. They are magical birds and I used to have them all around my house, roosting in the trees at night. Lovely birds.

I looked up “Color polymorphism in birds: causes and functions” by P. Galeotti (and others) dated 18 jun 2003. The long and short of this study concluded that color polymorphism seems to develop in species whose normal day OR night cycle changes to both day AND night, and who inhabit boundaries. Considering human’s increased disruption to their historically contiguous forest with new housing and other developments, as well as the never-rest, 24-7, always illuminated lifestyles of humans encroaching on what used to be primarily a quiet, wooded environment with only natural lighting - that would seem to fit the bill for the causal factors pushing for polymorphism, at least per this study.
