Ok, this is insane, but I saw a random Marauders TikTok last week, read ATYD, ATYD - Sirius's Perspective, and half a dozen other short wolfstar fics since. I am now reading all things Jegulus. I'm not doing a single other thing with my time and I have never even read fanfic before. I've tried. I'm too old for this nonsense but here I am, hyper-fixating on hypothetical relationships between fictional characters who died before I was born. I can't decide if this fandom has saved my life or is going to destroy me.

I'm not in the Marauder fandom since I really like Snape as a character. I know in some aspects of the canonical universe he did bad but that in other aspects his thoughts were good, which is why he was portrayed as a hero in the end. I am aware that some people don't like him but in my head, he didn't mean what he said when he insulted Lily and regretted it his whole life. I feel like he obviously hated the Marauders because they bullied him and was a deatheater because: of the bad influence he had during his childhood and his years at Hoghwarts and to not feel excluded and bullied again by people in his house. Sorry if I made any mistakes, English isn't my first language.

It’s fine if people don’t like Snape, but the Marauders fandom is so hypocritical. The way they take characters like Barty, Evan, Regulus and turn them into something they’re not, but then completely demonize Snape is baffling. Yes, Regulus betrayed Voldemort, but who’s to say that he stopped believing in his views against Muggle-Borns? Someone even said that there wasn’t enough canon evidence to show how evil Barty was, like- 💀 They also give Regulus Snape’s characteristics, such as the part Snape played in the second WW. I like both Snape and the Marauders, but it’s hard to have an actual conversation about the Marauders, because people ignore their flaws that made them uniquely them. Not to mention, it’s not even the Marauders at this point, but just OCs with their names on it.

A lot of people including myself that are apart of the Maradeurs fandom like Snape. I understand why people hate Snape,He SHOULDN'T have bullied Harry and kid's form other houses expect Slytherin because Slytherin is his favourite house. but younger Snape is a child who DIDN'T bully James,Sirius, or Lily. James and Sirius bullyed Severus and he would defend himself form them and to be honest he could have kill or hurt them if he wanted to but he didn't. Yes in the book Lily tried to defend Severus form James and Sirius but she also found the harassment or "prank" in James and Sirius words funny which upset Severus and he called her a "mud blood" out of anger that his best friend found it funny that he was being harassed.

I still don’t get how people hate Snape but like/love some death eaters. I, personally, don’t love Snape but I don’t hate him either same goes for the death eaters. Also, I think it’s important to take notice that James was a bully, it is canon, whether you like it or not. Yes, he redeemed himself unlike Snape but still, he was a bully at least one time throughout all his years at Hogwarts.

i would like everyone to know that my remus lupin is part latino so he has a bit darker skin than he normally is depicted as having (and he's welsh too because i said so, no one fight me on this because i will win.) sirius (and the black family in general) i headcanon as french (for obvious reasons) and a bit southeast asian (like thai or vietnamese) because it's fun and i just like experimenting with how i imagine them. i don't even know why i'm sharing this but i am so you all are going to suck it up and listen to me ramble :) james is desi for me and i will not be taking opinions at this point in time. peter is scottish and that's that, no opinions will be taken on that either. i'm actively fighting the white marauders allegations and i'm having a grand time. as an explanation for the part southeast asian black family hc, i don't really have one besides just seeing it tagged one day and i was like "yeah. this is the one" and i just went with it. the black family really tries to repress that side of their heritage but sirius and regulus? they love that side of their culture that they didn't get the chance to grow up with, especially sirius who likes to find ways to rebel from his family and in the process finds a lot of things that he's passionate about. pretty much the same explanation for james+the potters too (seeing it tagged one day and just going with the flow). james is the one who was so extremely proud about his culture and taught sirius to explore his heritage and embrace it; it was the potters who really brought the black brothers to a place in their lives where they were proud about who they are and that's something that is really special to me. i'm a white person by the way, but even i'm sick and tired of seeing solely white casts of characters (not limited to the marauders) and i love seeing people embrace and love their cultures, so i like including that in my writing so maybe, just maybe, somebody can identify with that same brand of joy. to say the least, i love pushing boundaries of how far i can go with things and play around with dynamics. obviously people have their own opinions on how things work and whatnot but these? these are my opinions and headcanons, and they are ones i hold near and dear to me, they are what i like to believe these characters look like. honestly, this goes beyond this fandom and really pushes into media representation as a whole. racial representation has gotten better in recent years, but still far from being great. i realise that i may have accidentally started an essay but i am not sorry for going on this rant, peace and love guys

Every time I try to understand this fandom the more confused I become. The main question I have is: What is the benefit of making up a large volume of content to add onto a small piece of canon lore over just reading/watching a different series that has what you're looking for? There’s not much of a benefit other than, it’s fun! I’ve been in the Marauders fandom for 12 years now, and it’s been like this for even longer. (It wasn’t as queer back then, but wolfstar has been around since at least 2003.) Fans are interested in their idea of what the lives of the Marauders could have been like if this or that happened, or they’re interested in filling in the gaps between what is already a compelling parental backstory for the main character of the franchise. What’s included in this video is almost entirely headcannon, but there’s something special about millions of people agreeing on certain aspects of these characters’ lives and making art related to them.

i'm sorry but Snape wasn't a bully when he was at Hogwarts, was he? he bullied students as a professor, he had his flaws while studying in Hogwarts, but he definitely wasn't a bully back then. so... i just don't get it. also, Peter Pettigrew was literally a traitor in the canon, but he's, like, tolerated by fandom?? you say "forget about canon", but it's kinda hypocritical when it doesn't work with Snape. personally i think that some people in the fandom somehow once had a hidden desire to get rid of Peter (or 'whitewash' him by creating his non-canonical version, as they did) or they were uncomfortable with the canonical version of him (?) but he's one of the Marauders. and that's the problem. so the only way is to create a non-canonical version? i'm not trying to argue with you, i'm just confused (english isn't my first language so sorry for my mistakes) p.s. oh yes, i've seen a lot of fancasts of skinny actors for Peter, and practically none of the plus-sized ones, especially in russian fandom. it's frustrating.

yeah i agree that the treatment towards snape is hypocritical, but I think that a lot of that is because he's a fully fleshed out character in canon unlike many of the marauders. like we see his actions in the books and reflect that onto his younger self. and for Peter, yeah it's really strange that he can be good but snape can't. i think its partially because peter was one of the four before he betrayed them, whereas snape was an outsider, and someone the rest of the marauders activly disliked. like some of the only canon information we have about james and sirius when they were young is that they didn't like snape.

@@annekegardina, yes, and still people like Peter, Bellatrix, Lucius, Narcissa - but not Snape. it's really sad for me because i would understand if people didn't like Snape, but liked morally good characters. but they like every 'bad' character except him, and that's so weird for me... as if he were worse than Bellatrix, who had tortured the Longbottoms to madness. i really feel isolated from fandom because i like Snape... :(

This is not a criticism of your fantastic video, more of the fandom in general. My least favorite aspect of the Marauders fandom is that I feel like they're not using Snape to his full potential. Like if you're already diverting from canon so much that most of the characters are unrecognizable then you might as well extend that to Snape. He can be an asshole and learn better as the years go on, especially for fics that extend past their Hogwarts years. Why whittle down Snape's character to just being a bully when you're slamming other Harry Potter fans for doing the same to James (which I do disagree with, people are not black and white).

I’m not a snape fan but I absolutely agree, this fandom is very hypocritical towards snape and tbh… I personally like the canon version of the marauders more, so I find them all being so flawed and not the best people interesting to explore and I want a fic that accurately portrays them all in their hogwarts years, including snape. Not making either or the bad guy, but both sides actually being complicated. The marauders (Sirius and James) being bullies to who they hate, but doing the most for their friends and people they care about. Having Remus be a bystander who’s against the bullying, but scared to say anything because he doesn’t want to lose the friends he never thought he’d have. Have good friendship moments, but them acting like pricks. Snape being bullied, and abused but he’s into dark arts. Hangs around with the awful death eater crowd, excuses their actions to Lily with it just being for ‘fun’ not him being a bull on rich slytherin bully like Draco is like in atyd’s. Him calling Lily a mudblood and feeling that guilt and regret for losing her. Maybe loads of these fics do exist, but I actually find the canon marauders so interesting and I feel like it would be cool to explore all these characters fully in ways that aren’t biased? I know the fandom is ‘we don’t care about canon’ but I feel like there’s actually so much to explore, like atyd’s is well written of course. It’s great! And the Remus in that story makes sense fr his backstory being completely changed, but having a Remus thats not as aggressive, who had a loving family who was more kept away from people his age until he was 11 and him being the nicest marauder who is a pushover is something I want to see more of tbh

Exactly, I like the Marauders, but the fandom is getting awful. At this point it’s not even the canon Marauders that they like, just the fanon head canon ones they’re making up. If you like Snape then you’re automatically homophobic and a n@zi. But it’s ok to like Barty, Rosier, and Regulus because the fandom is turning them into something they’re not.

It depends, sometimes half of the group is straight, and every now and then there’s one with all of them straight as apparently intended in canon. I’ll admit that it does feel a bit much at times whenever there’s a fic with everyone being queer, but sometimes it’s handled really well.
