Hand lasting a cordovan upper for a bespoke order

Here, the toe stiffener is already in and shaped. I use a two-step lasting method, so now I'm only left with the upper leather on the toe.

Are you using 2 hammers? One which you hit nails with and the other needed strictly for hammering leather? If you use only one hammer won’t the nails dent the hammer face which will show up on the leather if you hammer it? Or is this not a problem. I’m very new to shoemaking and do not know. Thank you!
