I just had an idea for a very unique park challenge sort of. It's a large map, but a section of it, like a whole 1/4 of the map, already has a park on it, but you are not allowed to mess with anything on it, as it acts like a "neighboring park". All the rides on it never break down and are modded to have no operating costs, and everything in it is free. All the guests initially visit this park first from the entrance, but there is a transport ride that takes them to an open section where you are allowed to start building a park, and guests can only leave via a second transport ride that takes them back to that first park through a one-way path, but the second ride is out in the middle of nowhere, and you have to bridge the gap to allow them to use it to leave, both figuring out how to funnel them through towards it, but also supply some extra rides and amenities to keep them happy along the way.

@reillywalker195 Жыл бұрын
It's not random. No-money scenarios were introduced in Loopy Landscapes, and they all had the requirement that you not let your park rating drop below 700. By making the casualty penalty decrease faster in scenarios without money, Chris Sawyer made those no-money scenarios more forgiving.

@@nthgth In RCT1, only scenarios without money required keeping a park rating of 700 or higher, so it didn't necessarily matter whether the game checked for money/no money or the 700 park rating rule since the effect would've been the same. In RCT2, I'm guessing Chris Sawyer did the same since scenarios with money and the 700 park rating rule still allow you to advertise to attract guests as well as choose your research speed and priorities, thus negating some of the downsides of requiring money.
@WackoMcGoose Жыл бұрын
My in-universe headcanon is that moneyless scenarios are when a park owner has _so much money already_ that "money is no object" to them, so offscreen they're just throwing wads of money at the media to quickly get rid of the negative press caused by a guest death.

I'm guessing the infinite money parks have the shorter recovery time so that you can get back to normal circumstances faster so that you don't instantly fail them if enough guests die. Most of those scenarios involve never letting your park rating fall below x, and if you got a high enough penalty by accident it would be literally impossible to turn it around in time.

Now I do wonder how the breakdown- and repair mechanics work in the RCT games. Like, is there a random chance for a breakdown (and how high is this)? Why the 10 minute interval for mechanics? What happens (numerically) if I stay below/above it with (not) inspecting rides? How many mechanics does one need per x rides? All of those questions need to be answered in another video. :D Also, why does one have to reach 3.68 excitement and 5.20 intensity on average specifically, what is the underlying assumption regarding these averages? ... Oh, and of course, you mentioned a mechanic that's too complex to adress it fully in this video (just forgot what it was). Also something I would love to see in a video!

20:15 Speaking of brakes failure... I recently found out how roller coaster brakes work, and it is physically impossible for a roller coaster's brakes to fail in real life (even at the time the RCT games were made), so this breakdown makes no sense. They're configured so that, if a failure does occur, gravity forces the brakes into the activated position; it's completely failsafe. They can't wear out because the main brakes use magnetic induction with permanent magnets. The only way the brakes can fail is if the train or track section itself is wrecked, at which point, you have bigger problems to worry about.

@WackoMcGoose Жыл бұрын
You know, now you got me wondering about pathfinding in RCT and how it compares to, say, Dwarf Fortress... In DF, entities calculate their entire path in one go, flood-fill searching _from the destination_ (walling off a workshop has less of a pathfinding impact than walling off a dwarf, and your tick rate will shit the bed if you uncover the Hidden Fun Stuff and wall it off before the Clowns can emerge) with per-tile pathfinding costs, then executing the resulting path if one is found, recalculating only if the decided path later ends up blocked. It's actually _recommended_ to have 2-3 tile wide main pathways in your fortress, because each tile can only have one entity "standing" in it at a time (all others must be laying down, so two cats can't both be standing in one tile, but 1 cat and 99 dragons can share a tile if all 99 dragons are laying down), so multi-tile pathways give additional movement options for entities to go around each other. But at the same time, _really big_ open areas (like if you mine out an entire z-level) are pathfinding traps, so you need to wall those off once you're done with them... Maybe RCT has it calculate only a few tiles of movement at a time? So a short exit path will easily be scanned as "okay, I can get out of here, and there's nothing else interesting down this", while a longer one is "huh, where's the rest of the park"...

If a train barely makes it in test mode when it's empty but still does you're totally fine (if not using block brakes), as an empty train is the minimum weight. During opening hours guests will make it heavier which will make it go faster, hence it will always make it. Dangerous things start happenning when you decide to shorten the train.
@MarcelVos Жыл бұрын
That's not true. If there are only guests in the back then the train might not make it because the extra weight in the back is holding it back. Brakes (including station brakes) are also slightly inconsistent, so even an empty train might not make it the second time if it barely makes it the first time. The shot of the train not making it in this video is faked by decreasing the chainlift speed because it's quite a rare occurence, but just before that it did actually not make with the exact same settings as in the first shot where it does make it, but I wasn't recording. Here is an example of it happening on film: kzbin.info/www/bejne/eZeYl5qJZd9qmbs

@@MarcelVos I didn't know the game went this deep that it also mattered where the guests are in the train. I never heard that, does the game actually register where the guests are in the train? It really doesn't have a reason to go this deep... Isn't it the case that's it's ''merely'' an overall weight increase? Like you do with the console? About the inconsistent brakes, yeah that's true. Video suggestion might be, how does it work where people decide to sit in a train? Because they don't go from front to back, and how does it affect ride performance when only the front or back half of the train is filled. That would be very interesting imo.

I'm curious whether ride inspection actually does anything. I had a station brakes failure take out 28 guests one month before the scenario end date in RCT1. I checked and the last inspection was one minute prior. Naturally, I drowned the nearest mechanic. But I'm wondering if I just got really unlucky, or if the inspections don't actually matter that much.

I like how you had to put the correct spelling of Bassiiie on screen at 1:24

I've had issues at multiple parks where the guests get stuck in an area and when you click on them they it says they were headed to a certain ride. The ride entrance is only 10 tiles away. I have to make another path leading to the ride entrance for them to find it. After awhile the park rating goes down some points until you build the path for them. Once the ride que starts getting riders the rating goes back up.
