I know the Steeplechase isn’t great mechanically, but the history behind it, and the appearance, put it higher up for me. Throwing that in with a Virginia Reel nearby definitely makes the park feel more “vintage” to me. Honestly, a slow-ish Steeplechase is about the only coaster type that exists in RCT that I ever liked IRL. In fact, that and the Spiral Slide are the only rides I’ve ever enjoyed, other than a crooked or haunted house. If you ever need an example of a guest whose Intensity preference is 0, I’m it.

It's a shame as I really want to like the heart line, I think it should be better. But then watching a video about the coasters that inspired the heart line, have convinced me it's deserved. I think it should have some kind of mechanic where if you pay extra to keep it maintained it stays as high as it can, but the longer it goes without maintainance the stats plummit quicker than other coasters, which would mimic the real world fate of these coasters.

It's really weird that the Suspended Swinging Coaster doesn't have banked turns in the game considering the fact that only the original prototype: The first iteration of The Bat at Kings Island lacked them. And the lack of banked turns was widely attributed to the ride's failure (it caused excessive wear and tear on the track and trains, resulting in parts needing to be replaced almost daily).
@gargaduk
@gargaduk Ай бұрын
I always thought it's because the trains already swing naturally, so it would be unnecessary to have banked turns.
@Hainaut183
@Hainaut183 2 жыл бұрын
The huge irony is that in real life, the Suspended Swinging Coaster is anything BUT nauseating. Most of the coasters at Six Flags: Magic Mountain can be hard on me if I don't eat right beforehand, but I've never had any issues riding the Ninja. The swinging cars cushion the lateral Gs, making the turns feel wider than they actually are. By contrast, you can really feel the intense lateral pressure on rides like Batman (Inverted Roller Coaster) and Tatsu (Flying Roller Coaster).
@MarsJenkar
@MarsJenkar 11 ай бұрын
The other thing is that every IRL suspended swinging coaster that exists today _has_ banked turns. In fact the only one ever built that _didn't_ have banked turns was the original Bat at Kings Island, and that was likely one of the factors that led to it closing after only three years. (The current suspended swinging coaster at Kings Island--originally Top Gun, later Flight Deck, now named The Bat in tribute to the original--was built with the lessons learned from the original in mind, and does include banked turns.)
@MegaRazorback
@MegaRazorback 3 ай бұрын
It's not the G's that do that (the nauseating feeling), it's the way the coaster moves, it always gives you that "void" feeling in your stomach and the body 1. hates it and 2. doesn't know how to handle it. It's kinda like the sick feeling you get if you suffer from bad vertigo but this lasts until you get off the coaster and then hangs around for a bit where as that sick feeling from vertigo can be remedied quite easily and quickly.

One thing I think the wooden wild mouse is good for is a compact design with great stats. I put one together in a Leafy Lake run. Just a small space cut into the hillside. Some tiny turns that barely avoid G penalties, and I wind up with a 6 excitement and 7 intensity ride.

I have a soft spot for the Virginia Reel and Steeplechase as I have been on them both at Blackpool. They seem pretty innocuous in RCT, but in real life they are/were seriously scary. The precarious nature of the Steeplechase, being high above a monorail track, which itself gets pretty high above the ground, is one thing, but when the track dips forward, the seat you are perched on moves forward more rapidly due to the lever effect, then pulls you backwards as the track levels out. And you’re sitting on a slippery seat, knees trying to grip the slippery sides of the horse and only a seatbelt is holding you in place. As for the Virginia Reel, I don’t think I’ve ever screamed as much in my life! It was a manic ride, getting faster and faster as you zigzag your way down the track. It’s only when you’re riding that you see the construction of the track itself and it looks so much like a homemade backyard coaster. The “straight” sections between the sharp turns were anything but, with numerous jerky adjustments to the direction of travel to line the tub up for the next turn. The twisting bowl of drops at the end, leading to the sudden drop into the tunnel was awesome. You then travelled all the way round the perimeter of the ride in a giant rectangle before emerging from the tunnel at the other end of the station. And the tubs themselves? Huge, heavy tubs. So heavy that you wonder how on Earth they can stay on the track. Eight people crammed in, holding on to the rail running behind you. Knees squished together in the middle. When taking a corner facing the outside of the turn, it was the squished knees that kept you in your seat. I’d love to see this ride make a comeback.

Great list, although I personally would have put the Twister Coaster above the Giga Coaster because the former has many more elements (and inversions). I especially appreciate how you presented the tracks by the vanilla/Classic game menu alphabetical order, as it reduces spoilers. The one inherent problem with these types of ranked lists is that, if one goes by worst to best, revealing the number 2 item spoils the number 1 item. I appreciate going by the game menu order for reducing spoilers for this reason. Alternatively, what I have seen done in the North American NHL Draft Lottery is that after revealing the number 3 item, they immediately reveal the number 1 item; it feels less spoiled to have number 2 being implicitly given away compared to number 1. TL;DR: any method of reducing spoilers in such ranked lists is something I always appreciate.

alpine could be probably in the trash for scenario play, as it lose speed way quickly (but also depends on the feel, as the speed change in a very prounounced way), but at least it cannot crash into other trains. hybrid coaster is just a better version of the wooden coaster, but a bit more expensive, but it is still able whit the smaller price than a giga to actually entering the god like single rail roller coasters are just extremely good 12kmph steep chain lift and fairly high stats when used, same height as a cokscrew, but they definitly can be strong coaster as well, as they can be compact and look good
@XRM-
@XRM- Жыл бұрын
@@claudetheclaudeqc6600 The alpine coaster wasn't meant to be trash, although it isn't as good as the other additions. Its main strength is that it can have a pretty high excitement/intensity ratio, so it should be a good option for parks where guests prefer less intense rides. Capacity may be an issue but since it doesn't use blocks it can run a lot of cars (it is allowed more cars than fit in the station). It loses speed quickly because the cars are equipped with brakes. Each rider has their own preferences for how fast they prefer to go and when they will brake. This doesn't matter too much because the alpine coaster doesn't calculate G forces, the main determiner of the rating you get is the length of the track and the scenery bonus.

I personally would've ranked the Steel Wild Mouse much lower... but that's only because it's INCREDIBLY prone to crashing. Perhaps my designs just suck, but I can't tell you how many times I've had to completely redesign the track just to avoid a plummeting park rating due to a crash... I've found that including brakes right before the station is critical to avoid that, but even then, you basically can't have a hill that it barely makes, or else sometimes it will just rollback and crash. Any hill that it goes over less than 10 mph is basically a recipe for a crash later.... Compare this to the Wooden Wild Mouse, which CAN'T crash unless you really don't design the hills right, and I feel it's a bit better.

Because you asked: to judge based on usability alone, I think it would be really cool to see how many different types of design categories can be made and their different possible price points, i.e. thin coaster, small footprint coaster, maximized for money generation, the cheapest barely functioning coaster, maximized for high stats. You could take all these categories, make a cheap, medium, and expensive - but not expensive for the sake of it, you'd stop when it becomes unnecessary, so some may only have a cheap coaster (like the barely functioning category would only have 1). Then, you could sum up the total stats, throughput, and money generation for a certain coaster (including all categories and versions within) and compare each one to the total cost added up for that certain coaster (again, including all versions). Then, you'd have a really good picture of a coaster's actual usefulness, as you'd have a fairly objective number associated with each coaster. You could then include bonuses such as guest generation at this step, as all of the designs technically generate their respective guest amount. You could also tally the total number of designs, divide that by their total cost, and you'd have a number that you could weight each coaster type's usefulness - this could express their versatility. You could also calculate the average added park value per capital investment. You could also weight each category by how often they affect scenarios, as THEN, after you have a weighted, average usefulness number for each coaster calculated, you could recalculate literally every version of every coaster, and compare its average to each type, and you could set a cap for deviance, and exclude all bad designs that don't fall within that range of the average, recalculate the average, and you'd have a seriously good picture of what each coaster type would statistically be considered good or bad as, reward per capital investment, based on scenario play. tldr: calculate with statistics based on an objective sample of all possible and useful coaster designs, and weight it based on how many scenarios they could actually be considered useful in.

And indeed, it had access to only the most common track pieces (track peices that at least half the coasters had access to) and none of the less common ones. In this comparison, every coaster will be compared pairwise in a way that the rank will not be influenced by your opinion (which is an awesome opinion btw)

Surprised that the Steeple Chase and Mini Suspended Coaster were below the Heartline Twister. I've built a few of them without remembering how terrible they are and they're still... functional. The Heartline Twister is really one that you don't want to build under any circumstances, unless you're doing a challenge run.
@MarcelVos

The Heartline can have a much higher throughput than either of those rides so it make much more money. It can also have a smaller microdesign as it has no minimum length requirement.

So Chris Sawyer: - likes B&M - _hates_ Togo - recognizes the inferiority of Arrow Dynamics' coasters, as well as the Vekoma coasters that use Arrow's track design (I believe that design is what makes Arrow coasters inferior) - thinks *JUNIOR* coasters are intense - didn't think about possible cheese

Thanks Marcel! I always enjoy your videos! I agree with your list except I’d place the twister coaster ahead of the Giga for its great inversions and, I’d move the looping coaster to God like because it’s fairly cheap to build but gets great stats with it’s simple yet fun design!

I would place the reverse freefall coaster into the "Just Bad" category, not just for the lack of variety but the abysmal throughput. However, i'd place the reverser coaster a bit higher, maybe as last of the "meh" category, as with long stations you can indeed achieve a good throughput of 2.5k guests per hour. I do agree with placing the inverted impulse a bit higher as well...

Wooden Wild Mouse is one of my favorite coasters. It has pretty good stats, is pretty cheap, and can fit almost anywhere. A design I saved recently is 3x30, costs $2,174, and has stats of 6.80/8.80/4.80. If it weren't for the entrance and exit buildings, it would be 2x30. I would've put that higher on the list, but otherwise I agree with your list.

I guess the giga has to be a #1 because every "highest possible excitement" video I've seen is usually gigas. The ratios it gets is kind of unfair, it's almost broken except it doesn't get inversions. I do think people should reconsider the vertical coaster though because it's throughput is the highest, I've found it very easy to get compact designs, and it's stats are fantastic, i personally find it the most easy steel type coaster to work with for the value.

14:50 does the wooden side friction coaster allow longer trains in vanilla RCT2? I always remembered that being a hack but idk Also surprised you separated the steel twister train variants but not the wooden coaster vs wooden twister coaster (which can do steep turns and helices). IIRC RCTLL groups the steel twister under one ride type with separate trains but separates the wooden coasters in the ride list (probably because the wooden twister was added in RCTAA and it was easier to add it as a new ride type). Mostly agree with the list though there are bad coaster types like the bobsled and steel mini and steeplechase that I'd give an "aesthetic" buff to for being so cute and theme park-y that I can't *not* include them in my parks.

I gotta be honest Marcel, this is a very good tier list. I feel that there's no arguing possible to move any coaster more one category over. I believe that many players, that play the game from an aesthetics point of view, would still agree with your tier list since many of the lower tiered rollercoasters are quite limiting to build with.😊
@MarcelVos
@MarcelVos 2 жыл бұрын
You're feeling wrong, because many people have already argued for things to be different. Also, for aesthetics this list is definitely wrong. For example, the Bobsleigh coaster is great as a terrain coaster going down a mountain, but you don't see that in this list.

Regarding the steeplechase, I wonder if it actually gets a bigger excitement bonus from synchronizing with other rides than the other coasters. I've mentioned before that I've built a 3-way steeplechase before that had godly stats, and now that I think about it I can't think of any reason why.
