I remember conducting an arrangement of this with my high school band back in the 1990's. no computers or auto tune, lol. This is such a joyous march. This is is a pretty good arrangement. So short it makes you want to put a repeat from 99 back to measure 67, it makes more sense to me. I would have done that for a concert.

version I played in a high school Honor Band started out with just an oboe solo. Girl kinda squawked it badly on the first attempt, the conductor stopped her, made a little joke to break the tension, and off she went again. Flawlessly the second time, and a great song that I remember almost 45 years later.

Tell me why whenever I was in seventh grade, my band (7-8 graders) got this music piece. I’m a tenor saxophone, altos usually get harder parts than us but this was the opposite. Us tenor saxophones personally have easy parts for most pieces of music but whenever I looked at my friends music, (alto) it was 90% rests and whole notes. While tenor sax and baritone were suffering. Trust me.

I'm sorry, but in my opinion, this magnificent march, finely played, is an adaptation of an old march of Spanish fifes, called the "Marcha tradicional de Ingenieros", that is often interpreted in the changes of guard of the "Guardia Real" and the "Regimiento Inmemorial del Rey nº 1", in Madrid. You can listen to it in KZbin: Marcha tradicional de ingenieros.
@ChrisBreemer
@ChrisBreemer 6 жыл бұрын
I'm quite disappointed to hear this is not an original tune by Leemans. I was thinking he must have had a massive brainwave to produce this infectious tune (apparently the first piece of music I strongly reacted to as an infant). Now it seems like he made his name by copying an existing tune. Strange that I cannot find any mention of this elsewhere. I suppose it cannot be the other way round ? The Marcha tradicional de ingenieros being adapted from Leemans' march ? The Spanish march is probably older. Either way, it's a great piece of music and I don't love it any less now. If only I could find a piano version....
@zottejakke3
@zottejakke3 5 жыл бұрын
I was intrigued by the possibility, but I cannot for the life of me find any origin information for this "Marcha tradicional de Ingenieros", and the only reference to it being old is the word 'tradicional' in that one KZbin clip title. On the other hand, I found a document by the Spanish Ministry of Defence in which they attribute it to Leemans, saying he based it on an old Belgian tune: bibliotecavirtualdefensa.es/BVMDefensa/i18n/catalogo_imagenes/grupo.cmd?path=73138 Do you have information to the contrary? I would love to see it.
