I also read The Nightingale this month. My two favorite things about the book was the fact it followed the two women. Like you said, we got to see what the War was like for them back at home. It was great to see what happened to the women while they worked with the resistance. I love how their characters developed too. Isabelle was reckless and loud mouthed when we first meet her. She grew so much through the book. She became this determined fearless leader. I also love how Kristin Hannah humanized the enemy. Beck was more than just the 'bad guy'. As the reader, I empathized with him. He had a family back at home, he was constantly battling what he thought was right and just vs what he has been ordered or commanded to do. His relationship with Vianne gave me such conflicting feelings but I adored where the author took his character. This book made me want to read more historical fiction novels. If you have any you would recommend, let me know. :)

I read Lady Midnight towards the beginning of this month and ABSOLUTELY loved it. I was sure that it would be my favorite book so far this year.. But then I read the Winner's Curse on the last day of the month, literally just sat down and plowed through it in a few hours, and I'd have to say that it was my favorite read so far this year. It pact such a huge punch in such a short amount of pages and I was a complete mess upon finishing. I'm SO excited to continue on with the trilogy!

I completely agree about Soulless. I thought I'd be super excited to continue, that it would be a series I couldn't put down...but it just did not hit a few marks, it's good but I can't place my finger on exactly what didn't do it for me.

The book that I read in March that I am seriously recommending to everyone is The Little Paris Bookshop by Nina George. I even recommended it to my mother and our reading tastes are opposite. I never recommend anything to her and I practically begged her to read it. It's about a man who lives in Paris and owns a bookshop that is on a barge. He prescribes books like medicine for the heart. It made me laugh, cry, gasp, get angry. All the "feels" were there. I seriously think you would love this book.

For World War 2 stories, I highly recommend Vango by Timothee De Fombelle. Its about the main character who is on the run from the police in France and ends up stowing away on the Graf Zeppelin. There is book 1 and book 2 and the translation from French has been done so well!

Great video! For some reason I just couldn't get into Six of Crows. I guess it just wasn't for me, and it put me in a reading slump. is a tale of two cities really good? cause I'm really curious to read it
@LastMinuteGuess8 жыл бұрын
+Emma L. I love Dickens writing. But the #1 A Tale of Two cities does is in portraying the atmosphere and chaos of the French Revolution. The tension before it, the chaos during it, and the impact after it. I was a bit disappointed because its characters werent memorable and are entirely meant to just be a symbol or something for the French revolution. If you are not interested in the FR, this book will bore you to tears. But this is what Dickens was trying to do and that, he did masterfully.

I honestly think that you would LOVE the novel The History of Love by Nicole Krauss! It is a novel that follows multiple characters that are all connected in some way to the fictional novel which is also called The History of Love. The fictional novel is about a man who fell in love with a girl named Alma during WW2 only to never see her again. It is beautifully written and complex with an amazingly heartbreaking plot twist and ending. I can't even do it justice by trying to describe it but it is my favorite book and I think you should check it out! It seems like it's right up your alley :)
