Hey, i know it does not really correlates with canon, but let me try to theorise where exactly i think this short movie happened. I think it happened in alternative universe, there were a different colony in LV-426, more advanced and weaponised - they had battle cyborgs. I think commanding officers of the colony already knew that there is a xenomorphs on the planet, so they started to send people there. Mentioned patient zero were the first woman who encountered eggs - and been jmped up with facehugger. Another patients also went under the same fate. That cyborg shooting patients - is colony oficers realising that they let things get out of control and too many now infected, so they killed remaining hosts. But it was too late, since xenos made a hive in the shores of the colony. Newt's mother were along the infected. Newt herself managed to escape and hide, while reesearch staff, soldiers, cyborgs and officers were fighting the aliens, but they were overwhelmed. Ripley and the marines arrived few days later. But whole situation went a little different that were in Aliens. Bishop loaded all the information from colony's black box and needed to transfer that information back to the company. But in result, USCM rescue operation went in disaster, so in the end before nuclear exposion in the colony Ripley, Newt and corporal Hicks managed to escape. Bishop chose to stay on the planet to give them time to fly away. Unortunatelly, they missed a facehugger on the ship. So when they went cryotubes, facehugger successfully infected Ripley, but caused a fire onto Sulako. Then, pretty much Alien 3 happened, but with Newt and Hicks survived. Ripley also realised that she was infected, and killed herself in front of arrived WY stuff, and also distracting them from Newt and Hicks escaping the planet. Years passed. Hicks and Newt joined the galactic nomads, and Newt swore on her parent's grave to fight Weyland Yutani and the xenomorph, because they took everything she loved and cared about. One of these days she took a ship and flew to the ruins of the colony on LV-426 to face her past and what really happened on that colony. And to say her goodbyes.

Hi guys, it's Sergio Barreto from Brazil here. We'd like to thanks for all the feedback, it's been a joyfull ride for all of us. We're simply thrilled, so thanks a lot! This is what Aliens 3 should have been, where the movie we actually got could have been the "twist end reveal" as Newt uncovers even darker truths and conspiracies involving the WYC.

Hi! Some folks are wondering where this story takes place in the canon timeline, and it simply fits nowhere. ;) We had less than a thousand bucks for the entire production, so the only way to go would be to keep things simple, and play with a minimalist story. As amateur films are so hard to produce, it'd be too complex for our budget to create new characters, and start their development arcs from the beginning. We decided the only possible scenario would be to play with already existing characters (whose arcs every Alien fan already knows), and simply go from there, exploring an alternate storyline for these characters' devastated emotional conditions. It's not meant to be canon in any way :) It's just a love letter to James Cameron's work, to these unforgettable characters and the amazing actors that brought them to life. Also, it's a bit of playing with every Aliens fan ultimate dream: "what if Newt was alive, where would the story go?". It's kinda a "what if" scenario, although a very vague one. ;) In the end, it's just a love letter. Nothing more. We had little budget and wanted somehow to show our love for the franchise. Thanks for watching! :D

I can't believe you did this on a budget that small. It looks like it cost $5,000 to make! I loved every minute of this. Maybe you should call James Cameron and ask if he is interested in making a story about Newt.

hi largol33t1. Thanks! When you live in a relatively small town in Brazil where nothing interesting ever happens, if you show up to a group of actors saying "guys, let's shoot a fanfilm?", yeah, they'll be all very excited. Most will do it just for the sheer pleasure of being in a film. (also, it's good portfolio for all of us) The same goes for me I guess, I've worked behind the scenes (pre, production and post-production) for about a full year, and no payment. Sometimes, just being able to do what you love is amazing enough. Most of the gear used (specially pro Nikon lenses) I've already had, as I worked as a photographer back in the day. Also important to say, these locations were all free. No payment or permits were needed to use those locations. Having essentially no costs with crew, gear and locations, the overall costs were quite minimal in the end. That's how we did it so cheap ^_^ On one hand it was cheap to produce, but on the other hand, the real "costs" were tons and tons of hard work from everyone involved. You really gotta love what you're doing, to make it to the very end of the post production schedule. We're now post producing a new short film (not Aliens based this time), but production costs were a bit more serious this time. I've spent 25 k on this new project, and even 25 k is barelly a scratch compared to pro cinema. Thanks for watching and the super kind comments :D Thanks a lot!

Hey Jason, thank you so much! I wish I could put together a behind the scenes video (maybe I really should someday!), because there're some insane off cameras things to tell about. Example: the leading actress (Luiza) had never seen Aliens at the time, and just read the screenplay once I guess, and oh boy, she nailed it. The whole crater scene was shot in a single night way up into the dawn. When Sergio got up (Bishop), his legs were stiff almost as frozen, while lying down for many hours in the cold mud. BTW, if you liked his work, he has a relatively large YT channel here in Brazil (you can look for it as "Projeto Ator"). The main light you see on Newt and Bishop is nothing else than my car's headlight pointed towards them the whole night. Smokes effect came from a fog machine, which was pulling energy through a 100m cable connected to a nearby house (which we just asked politely if we could have their wall AC). Those were the days... That's what it takes to make low budget indie movies :) Thanks for watching and the kind words, thank you! ☺

Hopefully one day it will be finished, hopefully :D in the meantime, thank you so much for supporting, watching and commenting :) Obrigado !!!

4 жыл бұрын
Hi! I'm super flattered by your comment, I really am! And on behalf of the whole cast, thank you so much! To be really honest, that little short was done without giving it too much thought (reason why the screenplay takes so much liberty - we could've never imagined it would eventually cross the half million views), that was shot way back in 2012 on a lowly GH2 (very poor 1080p video compared to today's offerings) and a very low end PC. It's funny to think the lighting was partially done with my car headlights turned on throughout the whole night, providing that yellowish main light on the actors' faces lol :D So much improvised stuff. Yup, very low budget. But it's even more interesting to think with the exact same $1000 bucks today, so much better could have been done, I believe literally achieving professional cinema standards. Because nowadays there're much better cameras, lenses, lighting, audio and travelling gear available, faster computers, better stuff on all levels, not to mention we all got some extra experience in those years. I already have another sci-fi screenplay written (it's not on the Alien Franchise, it's an original story following the same emotional and visual themes we see in franchises like Alien, Blade Runner, Ghost in the Shell). A story that would be made under much, muuch larger production value. I believe I can make it happen, we just need free time (this is a just a hobby lol) and some spare cash. Really hopping the whole world gets well and healthy again as soon as possible. Once again, thank you for your kindest words!

Very well performed, directed, and edited. You played to the strengths you had and avoided the typical pitfalls of many independent productions of this sort. Well done. My only criticism, which was leveled at the film by others, is the slight overuse of score. I think a few more moments letting the performers penetrate through in silence would have suited the project for the better. Nevertheless, well done. I salute all of you for your hard work and obvious love of the Alien series.

Hi OpenMawProductions, I guess you guys are spot on, at the end of the day, I agree entirely. I've watched this video countless times by now, and I gotta say I agree with you. As an inexperienced amateur filmmaker, I guess I felt too scared to let the emotions breathe, and carry the weight of the scene just by the actors performances and the text itself, without any soundtrack behind. It's somewhat a lack of confidence, we could say :) Gotta take notes on that for a next project! Thanks again for watching, OpenMawProductions!

The kindest comments such as yours is what makes us go foward and keep going strong, driving us through the obstacles that inevitably happens along amateur productions. On behalf of our team, from all our hearts, thank you! About Luiza, she's amazing, isn't she? :D I truly wish she could have opportunities overseas, as I believe she could be a movie star having the right connections. I wish her all the luck, and really do hope a movie producer is watching this short film, so she's able to find her way into Hollywood. I hope the best for the entire cast, everyone made an amazing job. Lux, since you liked this short film, we're already doing another one :D (but it won't be Aliens based this time). The next project will be inspired by the Last Airbender franchise, which I'm also a huge fan. We hope to grab at least a tiny bit of the cartoon's emotional core, and hope it'll work at an emotional level as much as Aliens did. It will explore themes like responsability, altruism, loss, courage, honor, friendship and love. We're just about to enter shooting phase, so it's still a long road before it's finished. We expect at least 3 months shooting principal photography, and another 6 to 8 months on post-production. Hi, I've just noticed your post now, sorry! There's a desire that won't rest to make another short, I do have a screenplay already written since 2019 for a new sci-fi, original this time, but one that bonds together all the better themes the Aliens franchise has to offer. Cool sci-fi setting, emotionally devastated characters, altruism, self sacrifice in the name of a greater good, great acting, good storyline, etc. And that's a desire that won't go away because the video tech available to amateur and small filmmakers just keeps getting better and better. It's surreal we can have today, as amateurs, better tools than George Lucas had during the SW prequel trilogy. I really hope that sci-fi can be produced in the future! Thanks for watching :)

Hi Greg! Once again, thanks a ton for your kindness! I even saw you replying another commenter just a few posts below, defending our little movie regarding changes in the official storyline. Thanks a ton!! :) haha yeah!, there was a lot of passion on this Aliens project, but I'm proud to say that everything we did on this Aliens fanfilm won't compare to what we're doing on our next project. This next short film (which is based on the Avatar: The Last Airbender franchise - yeah, we'll dare enter those waters! haha) ran for a year and a half in continuous pre-production phase (crafting the story, then screenplay, storyboard, casting, building characters, costumes, props, etc). Those were about 18 months of real hard work, wihout earning a single penny xD. I've paid for all the production costs, which ended up in about 25 grand, which is a lot considering there's no external funding. I just believe when you dream of something, go on full 300% mode, never go something in between. Then, earlier this year, we've spent 3 months shooting with our cast (everyone, me included, working for free). Well, free is not the best word to describe it. We did it for love. And now, this short film is going through a long post-production journey, which will probably go on for the next 12 months, with endless nights awake in front of the pc, working on the visual effects. This entire process far exceeds what we did on Aliens, I'm really proud to say :) It will take some time to show you the finished project, but I'll gladly email you when the time comes. =D Thanks a lot once again, my friend. Greetings from Brazil !

patrick thompson Hi Patrick! I'm really glad you liked so much, thanks my friend! :) We're trying to enter shooting phase of a new short film, based on the Avatar world (The Last Airbender Avatar, not the Jim's Cameron one lol). The idea is to fully explore themes of hope, loss, pain and despair once again, themes that are deeply related to the human nature itself, and that define us as human beings. We're still trying to enter the shooting phase, because as amateur films are so hard to produce, it takes a lot of lucky to make all things fit into place. But we're doing our best, hopefully it will happen!Patrick, thanks again for the kind words. :) Have a nice week!

Hey Jason, sorry for the super late reply. I'm trying to catch up, since (sort of) rebooting my YT channel a couple of years ago. Thank you so much! That was in fact our main goal here. It's not at all about visual FX, or the alien creature itself. I was far, far more interested in creating something emotionally-driven as you brilliantly put, something that could explore the pain and emotional devastation these characters were going through. Thank you for watching and commenting :) Well, if you wanna take a look, here's a trailer for our latest short film, which was entirely shot in 2016 but editing was never completed. I'm posting the trailer on my channel to see if we can find support, in order to finish this latest short. Just stumbled across this gem. What you people did with a month's welfare in Finland far surpasses a plethora of full length movies in terms of dialogue, acting, editing, direction, visuals and CGI, dramatic beats and use of score albeit not original but the use was to a perfect effect. I applaud you. All of you.

Hi Tarva, I'm gobsmacked at your comment! :D It warms my heart to a point I can't describe in words, and I can say that on behalf of all the casting. I don't have enough words to thank you! From all my heart, I seriously appreciate it. Although we haven't released yet, we have another short already shot (in 2016, still waiting for post production to be completed) based on a very popular and beloved franchise (the Last Airbender's Avatar), and I have a screenplay written for an original sci-fi short that will borrow the same dramatic themes from the Aliens franchise, a story about bravery, compassion, altruism, friendship when two people are facing a life ending situation in a sci-fi battle. Both of these new films are still being made under amateur, hobbyist conditions, but since 2014 I've discovered a few techniques that will allow these shorts to really look like massive budget productions, even though they're still low budget amateur films. It's a lot of hard work, but when we receive comments like yours, it all becomes effortless, we feel all this time and personal money invested has paid off. From all my heart, thank you. Lovely words like yours is what keep pushing us forward through the challenges of amateur filmmaking.

Hey Jason, thank you so much! This was actually our goal :) it was not all about being in line with the canon events of the franchise... it was way more about exploring the pain, scars, and the emotional journey these characters have gone through. Thank you so much! We actually have shot another short (not related to the Alien franchise) which explore these themes in an even better way, but unfortunately I can't find free time to finish the post-production. Thank you so much, Jane! I have commented on other comments that we have a much improved film already shot (way back in 2016). This time we tried our best to honor the Avatar, the Last Airbender franchise, and in my humble opinion, it's possibly more touching than this Aliens short. It deals with themes like sorrow, loss of loved ones, courage, and also deals with altruism, and how you have to step up against all odds to answer the call destiny has reserved for you. It explores very deep themes, with amazing, mesmerizing acting from all the cast. It's just waiting for post production (something I'm desperate to dive into, but unfortunately free time has been much shorter since 2014, when this Aliens short was made). Hopefully this Avatar short will see the light of day sooner than later! :D Jane, once again thank you so much for the kind words :D !

Hi, thank you for your kind comments. I'm very excited to announce we're finally being able to continue post-production on a follow up short film (not Aliens related this time, but equally as passionate, and growing on the same things Aliens did right). Totally agree, Luiza Greca (Newt) is indeed a lost diamond. It's a shame life gets in the way, and she had to follow a medical career (good for her!). In an ideal world, she should be starring Hollywood movies, she has an energy and talent that reminds me o J Lawrence.

Thank you Marcio Napoli for this wonderful and heartbreaking "What If". 20th Century Fox had an infinite universe of possibilities with the Alien franchise and they botched it. I 'Booed' at the end of Alien 3. Ridley Scott added further damage with his 'Prequels'. Your Aliens: LV-426 is proof there are people out there with imagination and originality flowing through their viens. You dont need mega millions to produce quality product. This was engaging. There was genuine emotion. You could feel the lonliness and desparation and need for answers. Not one drop of blood or slime. Again, thanks for breathing life into Newt and Bishop. Your film could very well be a springboard for some studio executive trying to figure out how to get the franchise back on track.
7 жыл бұрын
Edward, can't find enough words to thank you. I signed in just to reply, thank you so much! To be honest, this little fanfilm's biggest merit may not be its originality, as it borrows established elements from all over the Alien franchise (specially from Aliens and Alien 3). But one thing we really wanted to pass to our audience: a movie doesn't need fancy high end visual effects, humongous budget or major set pieces to actually work. All it needs is to show genuine love for the characters, their story arcs and their journeys. As long as there is deep, real emotion, the audience will connect to those characters. Alien 4 and both Prequels have failed to achieve the status of classics, because they've failed to establish any lasting impression with those characters. We basically have zero connection with most (if not all) of them. You can have all the budget in the world, if you don't care for the characters you should be rooting for, the movie is a fail. This fanfilm was just a bit of fun. :) But we once had an idea for a really cool adult Newt short film. It was something like this: "After the events of Aliens, Newt grows up to be vengeful, full of pain and emotionally scarred adult. Unable to find vengeance by her own, she seeks help throughout the Universe. She eventually finds it. On a desert planet, she meets a Space Jockey in a derelict ship. It's the very last of its kind. Advance technology is used to allow them to understand each other, and the alien life form tells its story. The elephant-like creature explains he's the last of a once nobble, intelligent and extremely naive race of beings. Naive being the key word. Their race once met the xenomorph race by chance, just like humans did in the events of Alien. It was no more than a random occurrence in the cloth of fate. As intelligent and curious as they were, they brought to their homeworld several hundred specimens of xenos and facehuggers. (just like humans wanted to do - although with much better intentions here) Needless to say, a xenomorph born from a 14 feet tall elephant-like being is at least 20x more deadly than a regular xenormorph born from humans. It was the end of the Space Jockey race. This last-of-a-kind creature Newt is talking to is possibly the saddest creature in existence in the entire Universe. The alien proceeds to explain they're unable to kill. It's part of their evolution. They're naive by nature, and simply can't kill, no matter how much pain rests inside. But the creature sees an opportunity. Although it can't kill, the human girl can. They can use their shared pain for a common goal. The Space Jockey offers Newt the necessary alien technology to fight xenomorphs, and they both go out to find the xenomorph's homeworld." The way I see it, it should not be an action movie. This whole "vengeance/war" theme should be kept as a background, just so that these 2 characters can share their stories and pain in a dramatic and emotional way. I mean, is there any movie that actually explored this? The saddest alien in the Universe and its interaction with a human? Should be very interesting to watch. I'd seriously consider doing that for fun someday :D Who knows in the future? ^_^ Edward, once again, thanks for watching and the amazingly kind words :) !

That. Was. Beautiful. I admit, I was expecting to see Aliens. But I don't care. That was great. See, I'm a big fan of the Newt character, and I disagree with one of your comments, I think Newt could carry on a whole Aliens series. In fact, I wrote an Aliens fan fiction trilogy centered around Newt as the main character, a direct sequel to Aliens and retcons Alien3 and Resurrection. The way you portrayed Newt is how I see her in my stories, she even looks like the actress I picked for my fan art, Summer Glau. Great stuff. I like it a lot. It almost made me cry.

Hi! :) ah that's interesting! We definitely agree, Newt could easily carry the weight of the franchise by her own, while Ripley takes a backseat, as an adviser, a pseudo-mother or something. Hicks and Bishop should've stayed alive too... Newt offers room for an incredibly complex and multi layered character. It's a tremendous pity they killed her in Alien 3 (although I love that movie as well). WeylandYutanilnc91, is there a way we can see your work on Aliens? I'm sure it's amazing! How can we see it ?
