Jim McCarty, to me, as far as his playing in Cactus goes, was like a cross between Jimmy Page and Jimi Hendrix. He and Carmine Appice really made the Cactus sound. Rusty Day, however, apart from being the voice, was and is also the band’s heart and soul. Wish footage of the band were available for full viewing. Would love to both see AND hear what the original band was like onstage, as opposed to just hearing them.
@MW477422 жыл бұрын
@@fdynda Yes his playing skills are equal. But Page was/is a far better composer and producer.

Right on, it's nice to hear as Bogart, McCarty and Appice are of the very best, not as well known... like bugs Hendersen, I have more recordings of Bugs than any other guitar player. Have you heard of him? R.I.P. Bugs and it was a pleasure to meet you and Buddy at the Wild Horse Casino. My son and I will never forget it, thank you.

Thanks for posting... muchimas gracias... salud! I am a huge Cactus follower and never heard this very slick version. McCarty's playing here is melancholic and sets the tone for this blues masterpiece. If you enjoy Jim's playing here and the Blues in general; please check out a song called "Texas" on Buddy Miles Freedom Express LP on KZbin. Jim's playing there is as good!

The first half of the tour Cactus opened for them, the second half Spirit took over. Can you imagine how Page & Plant handled that? Not only were they blown off the stage by the opener every night,. Why isn't Jim McCarty considered a guitar god?

in my book, he is....i don't need to be told who is or isnt
@burtcampbell14525 жыл бұрын
Good Question
@josephtardio10864 жыл бұрын
Because Cactus didn't have the songs that were on the level of the other "guitar gods". You're really only as good as the songs/chord changes/rhythm section you're playing over. Page, Hendrix, Duane, Clapton all had great songs to play over. Then the second tier of "guitar gods" Beck, Blackmore, Bloomfield had lesser songs.. Then finally McCarty. Do a song for song comparison.. I love 'Parchment Farm' and 'Evil', but outside of those two songs... eh.

Jim was a drummer before becoming a guitar player. His father was a big band drummer and Jim’s son is a good drummer too. Talent all over the place. As a guitarist, Jim McCarty has his own sound. Whether with Mitch Ryder, Cactus, The Rockets, I can always tell it’s jimmy on guitar. Nobody sounds like him.

Led Zep!? Pahhhhh-leeeze. Maybe Cactus might let Led Zep be their roadies...maybe, and only if li'l Jimmy P. quit balling his eyes out every time he had to have his diapers changed....(which was a lot). Seriously tho, Jimmy Page has NEVER played off the cuff this cleanly in his life. McCarty's playing here has no string scrapes, no fret buzz, no pick fumbles, no sloppiness anywhere. Page can only dream of doing this. And the other 3 are just as good. Tim Bogart blows John Paul Jones away, Rusty Day's voice fit's better, and here is the shocker...Carmen is better than Bonham on the whole kit. These guys blew every Brit band away...hell, for the mere fact they had bigger cocks (says wifey).
@jeffreycollier10594 жыл бұрын
Yeah but they're really sloppy. This is very clean in 6/8- Nice execution and phrasing!
