I honestly think his reputation is just a product of exaggeration and ignorance. He is just a home cook who makes no one cry, and just wants his kingfish.
Yeah no, but seriously I would wet myself if Marco looked me in the eye.. He is the sigma male of our species

“I think Marco is a big softy and I don’t find him really intimidating.” From what I’ve seen, Marco isn’t there to intimidate you. He’s there to teach you and to push you to become the best chef you can be. Therefore, he deserves your respect.

Honestly both him and GR are big softies, you see it outside of them running a kitchen all the time. But when you work for them, they aren't trying to intimidate you, they're trying to push you. No-one ever becomes the best having their hand held.

@@toffeelatte6042 There's a thing my parents would used to say. I was young enough to think that he really was notorious and threatening. But then they would tell me "He is nice and treats those who are responsible, with respect and calmness. He is hard on Adults who act so reckless and stubborn, because they should know better" Also obvious in the fact with how he acts on Masterchef Kids. He's gentle and kind, not only because of course he can't act harsh around kids. But because he knows they're learning and still young.

As someone who works professionally as a cook I can say that every great chef is intimidating. They work so hard and sacrifice so much to create something beautiful and fleeting. A masterpiece that gets destroyed in the blink of an eye never to be seen in the same form again. Gordon and Marco are two people who lost everything and gained something more than themselves. You feel the passion in their presence and that’s what is intimidating. The passion and love that is only achieved by .00001% of people. The rest don’t find the mindset or take the time to truly love and embody the craft we choose.

I think it's obvious that the reporter meant this as opposed to having to deal with all of the distractions of owning and running the entire restaurant, or any of the other things Marco does. They were not saying cooking is easy, but that it can be meditative to just be able to focus on that one thing. Marco himself called it a form of therapy. Marco deliberately misunderstood them to have a gotcha moment, he likes to put people on their back foot. He was being a bit of a twat.

There are culinary legends and then there's Marco. The rockstar, the rebel, the artist. The chef who took no shortcuts, no bs from anyone and never sold his soul. He stayed true to the art of cooking and to himself. He embodies qualities that have sadly become so rare these days. I'm not a cook myself, I just recognise and respect true greatness. What a legend of a man!
