46yr old brand new hobbyist here. Accidentally stumbled on this video and then went down the NJM rabbit hole because I had no idea what he was talking about regarding color theory in this video. I’ve painted a total of 20 models using the GW way and now i will be emptying my brain and starting over thanks to this channel. I realize I want to learn about art through minis, instead of just “how to paint blood angels”. Howdy from Texas Marco.

By the way, I would be very cursious of you making something like "neon vibe" or "synthe vib", just by increasing the amazing colors you put on the airbrush. So, basically, you don't with normal color scheme after all the preparation with the airbrush, but goes crazy. With your skills and the understanding of the color theory you always display, I'm sure it would be amazing

I really love listening you wax on poetic about the process. If you're up to paint another Dark Angel, you might want to try going for Azrael. However there is way more "robe space" on that one so perhaps not a fair comparison.

GW doesn't do the 'Eavy Metal look because they can't paint with a more artistic approach; some of their top end painters are artists through and through. It's about timeliness, how it photographs in 360 degrees of view for 2-dimensional shots where no one detail is the center of focus, and fits the "basics" of a color scheme that is easier for novice painters to replicate. It has a purpose.

This is amazing! I'm still a poor that can't afford an army and painting has been the other daunting part, but the airbrush really streamlines everything. The people that hate on it are just jealous because it's great results for less work. But that's another great thing about the hobby, you can go as easy or heavy as you want, it's your army.

Signore! I have to say, I really like how the model looked right before you started airbrushing the final step with white. In a way it reminded me of an Adrian Smith artwork, with whom you certainly are familiar. A lot of very flat, yet colourful blocks with only minimal shading, truly, just wonderfull. It's outright bewildering to me that you would call that an ugly phase :D BTW I'm not sure I would qualify this miniature as 'eavy Metal at all to be truthfull, for me that style is defined not only by cleanliness and excessive edge highlights, but also by the minimalistic use of volumetric highlights and painted texture, both of which your artistic soul will never allow you to do ;)

So I'm curious how the later stages of this process would differ if you were highlighting the the golds and silvers with metallic paints? I'm also curious if you ever work with using a florescent base coat in to make a chromatic black, for instance on say a blood angel or word bearer prime white spray florescent green zenithal gray with white highlights and then spray on a transparent red? If so what are some of the technical pitfalls and if not is there a specific reason or does it just not work?
