Showing people Pokemon music is my passion so thank you for having me. There were other themes I had queued up, but we didn’t have time. (Like Giratina/ The Team Star Suite) Feel free to suggest them in his upcoming Pokemon Music Suggestion stream. And just to clarify, Toby fox didn’t compose Terapagos’ theme. I was mostly talking about the motif that is featured first in the Tera Raid (which he composed and arranged) and throughout the Area Zero themes he composed. (but didn’t arrange)

One thing he forgot to mention about gen 5 is that there are several dynamic tracks that add/remove instruments based on your actions. Like drums for when you're running vs not, and different sounds for the different seasons. And in places like Opelucid city, there are street performers that add their instruments if you go near them. Or even better, Village Bridge can have the entire village add to the theme and they only add their part when you speak to them.

It’s so interesting seeing someone react to Slumbering Weald without having played the game. For context, the first time you hear it in game it cuts straight to the wolves on loop in a dark, Misty forest where you have trouble seeing the background. The howl is the FIRST thing you hear on entry at that point, so it becomes so ingrained and iconic in the players’ perception of the theme, so much so I was confused when I didn’t hear them first thing when the actual track started. To me, those howls ARE the Slumbering Weald and not hearing the wolves is as off putting as hearing them probably was for you.

59:41 I actually have a different take on what the heavy breathing represents To give some context, the battle is against an AI replica of the original professor. This AI *wants* the player to win against them. However, they cannot simply forfeit the battle as their base programming cannot allow it, despite the AI's own desire to not fight. In the original song, the part just before the heavy breathing is hopeful, almost as if the AI is letting us know that we can do this, just push on through! Compared to the frantic nature of the other parts of the song, this instills the player with a sense of hope that things will turn out alright. Maybe the AI can wrestle back control? **Then 2;37 of the original song comes in** The music cuts out abrubtly for half a second before two rising notes play, almost like a boot up chime. Suddenly, the drums come back in a long with something else. Something that sounds like breathing... **Heavy, frantic, hyperventilated breathing.** The hopeful motif has passed and in its place is the AI being taken over by its own programming. The AI tries to fight it, breathing hard as it does, but to no avail. Eventually, the Area Zero motif starts playing again and the battle continues...
@BJGvideos

The tragic part about Necrozma is that the people of its dimension were the ones who hurt it to the point it turned into its depleted crystal form as a result of their greed trying to harvest more of its power. They are the reason it is broken in the first place and seeks out light to devour just to be whole again even if it's just momentarily. It's basically a dead star/black hole turning back into a star if only briefly. It's also implied it has so little power left it can barely stay concious most of the time, you need to donate some power to it to reawaken it if you want to catch it after your battle with it since it's that depleted after it.

Next time you should listen to Kieran's themes. They are a lot, but it's important to listen to them all. I'll tell you the order: -Kieran's encounter theme. -Kieran's first battle theme. -Kieran's anger. -Kieran final battle theme (Teal Mask) -Kieran's new theme. -Champion Kieran battle theme. And if you wanted to, you could listen to Kieran's Terapagos theme, which would happen right before Terapagos's battle theme, though it's not really connected to the rest of Kieran's themes. I know they are a lot, but it's seriously worth it, you can feel the evolution of the character with the music. Three of them are just encounter themes, they are pretty short anyways.

A bit late but better than never! Im so glad I came back after a long day to this - listening to both of you go on about the music is amazing. Maybee its cause of how special Pokemon is to me, (one of my first ever franchises to play), but it felt so nice seeing the whole game music thing do its magic for Pokemon especially, with how you got the vibe and some of the context by just listening and talking a little. Loved this Collab! Speaking of which, I like how TrueGreen pointeed out that Necrozma's orchestral section feels like its soul, because in its other themes its very much used as an indicator for how its feeling. In Its Ultra theme it sounds proud, envigored, if abit unsure of what may happen next, but oh boy its other themes really remind you that this is a crystalline dragon diety which is not very happy. The Area Zero Suite section was also perfect, blending how the environment and battle music in the games can compliment one another. TrueGreen showing both in this video was a real good touch cause Pokemon is as much about its mystical environments and audiovisual story telling as it is about its charming creatures and characters and the battles they participate in. Also, I want to point out that Pokemon battle themes sounding like they tell you about the creature/person and their situation is very intentional from a lore and gameplay perspective - Pokemon battles are treated like conversations in a way, abit like how other anime will say two characters duking it out in their best talents (cooking, arts, and yes music) is a way of communicating. You can go as farr as to figure out bits of a persons story from the Pokemon and moves they use even, like a cold hearted villain with a Pokemon that only evolves when you love it, or a friendly and kind companion who uses Pokemon known for their duplicity. In the end I just want to say thanks cause this rocked!

It's interesting that he showd mostly the modern tracks and not the older ones that are considered iconic. I guess they are musically less interesting. Happy to see the area 0 lab battle theme but disappointed that he didn't show the crazy legendary battle theme from gen 5.

I don't like Ultra Necrozmas theme as much as other people but it's still really special. USUM was something of an anniversary game, I think it fell on the 20th anniversary of the series or something? So the climax here was definently really unique and grand. In terms of the gameplay, Ultra Necrozma is just absurdly strong, like there are tons of super powerful legendary Pokemon with stats that are higher across the board but Ultra Necrozma is like engineered to be immune to any kind of brute force, it's not a glass cannon by any means but its offensive stats and its speed make it impossible to get even a single word in, and it has a near perfect moveset that ensures it has super effective damage on nearly anything you put in front of it. I've seen people go into this fight blind on like a self imposed challenge run, like a nuzlocke where if your Pokemon faints it dies and you can't use it anymore, and they just get wiped because they don't expect it. I replayed this game recently and my strategy was to bring in a bulky Pokemon to use Trick Room, which reverses the turn order making slow Pokemon go first, and then brought in the strongest attack I had, I think it still took 3 Pokemon just to beat the one tho lol. Also there's a vocal cover of this song on KZbin I rly like, I can't help but sing it to myself even when I'm listening to the normal version lol. Deoxys' battle in ORAS is sort of a victory lap at the end of the game. You ascend into space on Rayquazas back and successfully destroy the life threatening meteor, but oops, there was a Pokemon in there! Deoxys is pretty strong but it absolutely can't hold a candle to Rayquaza, that fact stays consistent, but it is still pretty freaky. It can change the shape of its body to be fast or harder hitting or tankier, and it can regenerate from grievous injury, like in the movie it gets atomized by Rayquaza and in a web short it gets half of its torso blown off by it. In the original games it honestly served a similar role as Necrozma, being a ceremonious end cap on an era of the series, it's just as much a Kantonian Pokemon as a Hoennian one honestly. Raid battles in Scarlet and Violet can get super hard. They did a bunch of limited time events for special Pokemon in raids and some of them were so hard that the community had to come together each time to come up with a strategy, usually involving a very specific group of Pokemon, and even then it's not easy and you need to adapt to what happens. I've felt so much dread while listening to this theme lol, it's really really fun tho, those events are very in the spirit of Pokemon which is a social game at its core in addition to being an RPG. God I would love Marco to hear the whole suite Slumbering Weald is associated with, for me personally I like it even more than the whole Area Zero collection. Also I like Truegreens answer for why ScVi is controversial but I'd like to provide my answer in regards to Sword and Shield. Up until SwSh, every older Pokemon ever was technically *coded* into every game, on top of the new Pokemon added, and you can transfer your old Pokemon up to the new games and keep journeying with them, I personally have a Victini from Black and White who is I believe 12 or 13 years old now. But for SwSh they decided that the workload of coding every Pokemon in each time was too much so they narrowed it down to about 400 at launch compared to the 800+ at the time, in favor of having more time to make *new* content. Every Pokemon is someone's favorite, the concept of your bond with your favorite Pokemon is such a core aspect of the series for many people so that's just a hard pill to swallow, and on top of that SwSh didn't have that much content to it. The presentation of the gym challenge is very cool but the game is especially easy in a game where difficulty would have served the narrative well, and many people also complain the story wasn't as well realized as it could've been. It's just kinda mid, but I still like it personally. The exp share debate is stupid, it's purely quality of life, and I agree with them making it the standard. Sun Moon and Ultra Sun Ultra Moon I think feel the most appropriately balanced if you wanna use the exp share. Black and White unfortunately has the old exp share so you might have to tough some grinding out, but if you stream it chat can keep you company for sure. Black and White are my recommendation, but SM, USUM, SwSh or maybe BDSP are all good starting points I think. Just keep in mind that BDSP is kinda the odd one out of this list, it's more of an exploration game than a story game, but it does have some cool hidden lore. Actually Let's Go would be great too, that game was sort of meant as an onboarding point for people from Pokemon GO, I think it's an amazing game in its own right too.

AHHH WHAT A FIRE LIST OF TRACKS!!!! Truegreen you are a true connoisseur! You did so good explaining the tracks, too! And I loved the reactions from both of you. Being able to hear all the Scarlet/Violet tracks with the context really let me hear the leitmotifs from every song come together. Marco did so good guessing the theming behind the songs too. I'm super happy to hear Trugreen run through the fact that people genuinely, GENUINELY hated (and still hate) Black and White. I still say that Black and White 2 are genuinely the peak, but Heart Gold and Soul Silver, alongside Emerald and Fire Red/Leaf Green are absolutely contenders, and I wouldn't argue with anyone if they picked those over it But Gen 5 has finally been getting some real love, and that's so cool, man I'm early in, but I'm excited to see the rest of this

A lot of people are complaining about the usage of more recent gens but I think that has more to do with what Truegreen was trying to achieve with this video, which is really capitalizing on each other's strengths to make it a proper collab. Recognizing the leitmotifs throughout one game and having someone who knows the story to expand or clarify what was going on. Marco mentioned had a long list of pokemon songs from his community in the first video (I'm sure the Ghetsis song is in the future). For me, I really love Undella Town's 2 different themes, but might not have as much to say other than, ISN'T THIS NEAT?!? Marco and Truegreen could review that and have much more to say, but I don't think it would be as interesting compared to what this video was.

I love this so much. You not having much experience with Pokemon only makes it better, as you'll appreciate the songs on their own without the context of the games & community around them. "Its a delight to be on the water" "ha, I'm glad you think so" lol that was great. One thing you'll love about Black & White is that while exploring, you can find NPCs that add more to the music you're listening to. So you'll run into a pianist who'll add a piano melody to the area's music.

I’m so glad you and Truegreen got to talk Pokemon so much in this! It looks like the two of you hd a lot of fun going through the Pokemon music together. If you’d like, I think you’d very much enjoy the character of Kieran, the character who resents you that Truegreen talks about in the Terapagos battle theme. He has a few themes throughout the game since he goes through a pretty big arc throughout the whole DLC, from being your friend to resenting you to trying to make things right once again. I honestly think you’d really like listening to his development and arc through the different music themes associated with him!

I love seeing people hear new music, especially pokemon music, for the first time. It's all so good... If I had to make one single suggestion for a pokemon theme for you to listen to again, one that I believe is one of the most emotional songs in the world, I'd suggest "Don't Ever Forget" from Pokemon Mystery Dungeon: The explorers series. It is indescribable, as is music from those games as a whole.

Love this, one track I think that would be great if you listened to entirely is Arceus' battle theme in Pokemon Legends Arceus. It's a longer one as it goes through 5 or so different phases. No one really sheds much light on it, maybe because it's not the most pleasing tracks of all time, but with how you guess the context of tracks, and read inbetween the lines, I feel like you would absolutely be the person who could appreciate it, and probably try understand the context without actually knowing the context of the theme or its significance 😁

OMG I never thought of it like Truegreen7. Not making a "favourite pokemon music" playlist but multiple playlists for different areas/places. I'm so gonna now do a city playlist, forest playlist and many more. 🎶 Also I have to listen to more pokemon music on it's own, not just when playing the game. Bc then I'm more focused on gameplay and can't fully enjoy the music and the feeling it creates. Especially the Area Zero music hits totally different if you focus on really listening to the melody.
