Thank you for devoting so much time to such an interesting Roman. I've been stanning him pretty hard since the Colleen McCullough series which, albeit fiction, conveyed that exact sense of "just what IS it about this person?" that you seem to keep running into when describing the intersection between the known facts of his career and historical reputation.

Really great learning about Romans other than Ceasar, Nero, or Caligula. I appreciate your work very much.

Very interesting presentation. Definitely an important figure who gets forgotten in broader history. One thing though; you have to come up with some kind of sign off. You often kind of just end.

Yeah, I haven't really come up with anything catchy even after all of these videos.

Cool name. Speaking of adept conservative politicians can you do a 1 off on Bismarck?
@ThersitestheHistorian5 жыл бұрын
That is something that I have been considering for a while now. A couple years ago, I was going to do a video on German colonization prior to WWI, but unfortunately, I lost my notes when I moved. I'll get around to it eventually.

so harry turtledove stole this guy's name for his books?
@ThersitestheHistorian5 жыл бұрын
Doesn't Turtledove typically write about later periods? I imagine that if he took the name Scaurus, he was painting an alternative historical scenario where Scaurus' descendants were able to maintain or restore his prestige. It isn't too implausible since the survival of a number of aristocratic houses depended heavily on either patronage from the Julio-Claudians or the sheer luck of fertility.
