Derek Trucks? Different styles though. Trucks is undoubtedly the BEST slide guitarist around. There sure isn't anyone with as much potential as Marcus King. If he stays the course, there'll be NOBODY that can touch him! Sheer talent and potential to move forward will propel MK into "guitar history"!!! The next generation's Clapton??

What a shame in a few months time when this guy gets more fans etc, all the wankers and hateful losers will be filling these comments with ''john mayers better'' or ''he'd be better if he played this''. He is a very talented song writer & guitarist who can sing well. I wish him and his band all the success they deserve. If they come down under, we will welcome them with open arms. Big blues fans in Oz. note:for what its worth, I don't rate john mayer.

Awesome, Marcus has great technique, passion, and soul. This band rocks! Love the newer artists such as Marcus King, Joanne Shaw Taylor, Jared James Nichols, Samantha Fish, Tyler Dow Bryant, etc...carrying the blues/rock torch and running like a scalded dawg, lol.

major scale - not just pentatonic cause you can hear him inflect the 4 and major7 in some of the lines. very derek trucks influenced the way he uses the major 7th

Initially I agreed with you but after a few more listens, I think Marcus might benefit from some singing lessons. Before you all start sling shit in my direction, most players, myself included, are self taught and never had the money to get lessons so you teach yourself good & bad ways to achieve what your looking for. A pro will teach him about projecting his voice, breathing properly, you notice he runs out of breath a bit, aswell as some tips on strengthening his voice. Songs can be structured to suit the singers ability and he will learn more as he gets more experience. The guy is a HUGE talent, just a few pointers and he will be world class in a few years in my humble opinion. I am 50yo and have played piano & synths for 44 years and drums for the last 35 years. I also love bass guitar but tend to write my own bass parts on my Moog or Roland.
